YUMMMMM! Our apartment complex booked The Cheesesteak Joint for us, and it was nothing short of scrumptious. The ribeye was thinly sliced & cooked to perfection. The steak wasn't fatty or chewy. I built up my sandwich with sweet peppers & onions. The cherry on top was the perfectly crisp french fries. I am a fan, and would definitely recommend this food truck!

To start this off, I have experienced Pat's Philly Cheesesteak. I got the cheesesteak "wit" and it had the onions right in the mix with the wiz and it was excellent. It was lunch time and was really good busy and you had to know how to order from there or you were sent back to the end of the line until you ordered right. Now, all that said, I thought I was back in Philly ordering from Pat's again when I ordered from these guys, minus the getting kicked to the back of the line. These sandwiches are almost a dead replica of Pat's. However, they are a step above in my opinion, with the size of the sandwich. They are freakin huge!!! Which is awesome, the beef is flavorful and the cheese wiz makes it better. That is from my wife, she is a fan of the O.G. Cheesesteak with the onions, So essentially Pat's Cheesesteak but better in our opinion. Myself i have had their sandwiches 3 times now and have loved every one. I have had the buffalo chicken 2 times. First was, I don't know how to explain it, other than perfect. The bun was toasted just right where it was crisp on the rim but then fluffy and a little doughy on the inside where the meat was. No complaints. The sauce was on point not to hot not weak but like Goldilocks would have liked it. Got the same sandwich the next time and wow that was good but had some heat with it. So not complaining but I went through 3 bottles of water 2 Dr. Peppers and then filled my glass at home about 4 times to try and kill the heat. Like i said not that they are bad it is just I am not a hot guy. This last time that they were at the Queen Creek food truck night I tried the chicken bacon ranch with both American cheese and wiz and let me tell you that was cash money!!! It was worth every nickel that i spent on it and i was eating the scraps that fell out of the sandwich and onto the paper. It is pictured below. Got some cheese and bacon fries and Mozzarella sticks to accompany the sandwich and let me tell you double fried fries and cheese with that much bacon on them was like have a cardiologist on standby but damn was it good and then the cheese sticks are like bar cheese stick. Which to say that is not a bad thing as they tend to taste better from a dive bar or a local restaurant. If you come across these guys anywhere or search them out, you have to try them!! That is not a suggestion that is a statement. Their sandwiches are delicious. The big hit is the cheesesteak egg rolls. I have not had them yet but I may try them if i can pull myself away from the CBR sandwich. Keep coming to the Queen Creek Food Truck festival On Friday or Saturday nights, I'll keep eating there!!!!

Mushroom filled. Lighting is bad, but this shit awesome!

I gotta second Mary F. on this place. Give me all of the cheesesteaks to the dome! My party and I rolled up to the Tipsy Cactus, which has a different crew of food trucks on a weekly rotation. Sunday it was all about the Cheesesteak Joint. We all shared cheesesteak fries and a bounty of cheesesteaks sammie's. I went with the classic Philly cheeesteak with works, but I forgot to ask for cheese whiz! This sandwich comes with seared steak, peppers, onions, cheery peppers, and mushrooms... It was delicious! The bread was soft, but sturdy enough not to fall apart while I indulged. The whiz would have set this off, but I really blew it and forgot to ask for the cheesy creamy topping. This is a husband and wife team, I believe, and you can tell they are putting their heart and soul into every paper plate dish.

Who doesn't love a good cheesesteak? Meat and cheese, the original peanut butter and jelly. Came across this food truck in my work complex. Disclaimer: I normally do not purchase items from food trucks because they are usually more expensive than if I went to a regular establishment. Well I was starving this day! $12 for the whole 9 inch or $7 for the 4.5 inch. My budget is definitely not $12 for lunch. So the $7 sandwich it is. I got the plain cheese steak. The essence of the meat and cheese must NOT be muddled! Meat was tender and seasoned and cheese was melted nicely into the meat. The bread was soft and had just enough of a bite of chewiness and worked well with the heartiness of the sandwich. There wasn't grease dripping everywhere to make it soggy. It was salty, meaty, cheesy goodness. The only problem... I finished it in literally 2 bites! When it first came out I thought they were passing out SAMPLES! Who ordered the kid's meal?? It reminded me of one of my favorite childhood movies, ' Honey, I shrunk the cheesesteak!' It was just the mini sub. Nothing else with it. No fries. No pickle. No chips. Throw me a frickin bone! Yes, actually give me a bone to chew on, I'm still starving! I felt hungry. I felt ripped off. I felt HANGRY. I hate when I have buyer's remorse when it comes to my food. I know food trucks are higher price than normal restaurants, but, Damn! Two bites?? They should make the tray edible so you can get full off of it at least. Sad day.

Excellent! My fiancé is from Philly so we went into it not expecting the best, but they really were amazing! The bread was perfect, meat and cheese ratio was on point, and the texture was perfect! The only thing we wished was that it had more meat in the cheesesteak. Other that that, we were pleasantly surprised! We got the cheesesteaks with grilled onions with cheese wiz. & cheese fries! Amazing!! Definitely hope they come back to our apartment complex! Thank you for dinner!

    Yum!

This place had a food truck at my work last week and their Philly cheesesteak fries with cheese whiz are BOMB! I wish I would've tried more of the menu but I definitely will next time!

My daughter wanted to try a cheesesteak so I ordered the regular for her. I went and bought from another food truck for myself. I asked for a bite and was like omg...I need that in my life now. I ordered the works with cheez whiz and the fries with steak and cheese. I was not let down. The sandwich is 12...but it's pretty big. I would definitely go back and indulge in another cheesesteak (I have never been to philly so I have no comparison).

Little details like that is what makes the food great. The flavor of both items blew me away. So yummy. So why only 3 stars? They took forever. We tried them at the Gilbert Food Trucks Food Court and they were super under staffed. Took close to an hour with waiting in line and waiting on food. Not exactly what one expects from a food truck. And while the food is amazing, it's not good enough to over look that long wait.

Wasn't sure where to find them since their website (travelingmonkaz.com) does not appear to be supported. However, their Facebook page is kept current and I was able to determine that they would be appearing on a Saturday evening at the Food Truck Caravan in Scottsdale located at 5th Avenue and Goldwater Boulevard. Fortuitously, I had bought tickets for a comedy show at Scottsdale's Stand-Up Live, which was a stone's throw away. I couldn't resist ordering the BBQ pork street tacos (beer barbeque pulled pork, jalapeno slaw, with bacon beer aioli) and they were phenomenal! They come three to an order so I was able to share with my comedy show compadre. He concurred that they were scrumptious. It stands to figure that porky goodness cooked with beer can be somewhat irresistable, and the folks at The Traveling Monk seem to know that all too well. I have since noticed that The Traveling Monk has been appearing at new breweries, which seem to be popping up in the East Valley as of late. I will keep my eyes peeled on their Facebook feed, since it seems like a perfect excuse to visit them at a couple of breweries on my list (Arizona Wilderness Brewing Company in Gilbert and Huss Brewing Company in Tempe, for example). I can only imagine how well their food goes down with a delicious craft beer, and I can only surmise that the folks responsible for The Hungry Monk (which maintains a very respectable craft beer selection) know exactly what they are doing.

Price and quality did not match…read more I ordered the pastrami sandwich and immediately noticed some cost cutting choices, like butter flavored spray (can we use real butter) US Foods/Chef's Store sourdough bread, (can we use real sourdough bread) and a microwave sitting next to the griddle (which the griddle looks like it has not been cleaned very often). I didn't think much of it at first, but then I watched the owner heat the pastrami in the microwave before assembling the sandwich. I've never had a deli sandwich prepared that way right in front of me, and it was disappointing. She also pulled out a large bag of Taylor Farms shredded lettuce. I asked for no lettuce, and she joked that "people don't want lettuce anymore." Given the recent news surrounding Taylor Farms, that comment didn't exactly inspire confidence. What really surprised me was that the pastrami was placed in a plastic basket and microwaved. Whether or not it's considered safe, seeing food heated that way wasn't very appetizing. Looking around, there also didn't appear to be any real kitchen equipment for preparing hot sandwiches beyond a microwave. A Blackstone griddle or even a quality countertop oven would have inspired much more confidence in the food, especially considering the owner's Yelp responses emphasizing the quality of their sandwiches. From what I experienced, the preparation didn't match those claims. In the end, we ordered just one pastrami sandwich and one beer, and the total came to about $25, with the sandwich alone costing over $17. For that price, I expected much better ingredients and preparation. Unfortunately, the quality didn't match the cost. We tried to be as nice as possible but we left feeling pretty disappointed and couldn't wait to get out of there.
