I am late to the Japanese cheesecake craze. My very first Yelp in-person event was at a Japanese cheesecake place in Unionville that has since switched names and ownership. I loved the two samples that I got, but never went back to get a full Japanese cheesecake anywhere. Well, all that changed last Friday. A week earlier, I saw my friend post photos of this beautiful rose valentine soufflé cheesecake for Valentine's Day. It looked so pretty and scrumptious that I immediately ordered one online through Cheese Garden's site for pickup from this location in North York. I couldn't get pickup immediately and chose Lunar New Year because I was off from work that day. I haven't hung out in this part of North York for a long time. I used to meet a friend for a movie and dinner often years ago, as it was close to his workplace. The area still has loads of eateries, but I don't recognize a lot of them. I drove over here and parked on Yonge Street. I parked in front of Upper East Food Club, which was a block over from Cheese Garden. It wasn't planned. I had no idea where it was, but knew where I'd be getting takeout for lunch. I paid using my Green P app, which I am digging these days. I don't need to touch a parking machine and I don't need to carry change with me. It's awesome! Some businesses either didn't make the effort to shovel their storefront, or perhaps a thaw and freeze happened, and the sidewalk became icy. I took caution walking on it. It would be horrible to wipe out on a busy street. I walked into the store. There was one woman ahead of me who had what seemed like a complicated order. I stood in line for perhaps seven minutes. It was perfect, as it allowed me to take photos. She finally left with her stuff. It was my turn. I had my eight-digit order number handy, which is what the man and woman behind the counter needed. It felt like a tag team effort in which they finally found my order. The man confirmed my two items: - Rose valentine soufflé cheesecake - Baked cheese tart I had already paid online, so I got both boxes in a rectangular bag. I thanked both folks and wished them a good day. They were so friendly and nice, and reciprocated. I headed to my car to put my goodies away. Many folks parked by me were risking paying for parking. I'm not the gambling type and I'm glad that I didn't. As I was putting my bag away to fetch my lunch takeout next, the parking patrol had arrived. He was two cars away from mine. He was starting to write a ticket when a man bolted out of Upper East Food Club, apologized, jumped in his vehicle, and drove off. I was impressed with his dash-and-go technique! I eventually got home with my takeout and chowed down. For dessert, I went for the rose valentine soufflé cheesecake. My mistake was cutting the cheesecake immediately without putting it in the fridge. It was delicate that cutting a wedge looked like I had grabbed some cheesecake with my fingers. Even though my slice didn't look pretty, it tasted fantastic! The base has Oreo crumbs. On top of them is soufflé cheesecake, and then rose milk pudding. It's topped with rose chocolate wide shavings. Around the cake is rose strawberry mascarpone cheese. Insanely delicious and decadent! I have since had a few more slices. They cut a lot better when the cheesecake has been chilling in the fridge. The baked cheese tart is fantastic. The crust is so buttery and flaky. It's recommended to tear off the crust and dip it into the cheesecake. It's fun! The cheesecake is creamy and divine. Both items aren't overly sweet, which I appreciate. I had an excellent experience. I'm eyeing getting the matcha tiramisu next. I thought that it would be overkill to get that with the rose valentine soufflé cheesecake, so I'll be back for more. (59)
I've come here several times before mostly for their specials. This place has serveral locations across Toronto and the staff working there are pretty friendly. This time I came here for their white peach oolong tiramisu special. This was limited edition as they offer only 500 for the package special which includes two white peach oolong tiramisu and a white peach jam that is made in house. The package was super nice along with the white peach tiramisus which were done wonderfully, too good to eat. Comes with a little card that tells you what each layer consists of. It's not too sweet, could taste the hints of oolong more than the peach, there were small amounts of peach jelly. Very light and fragrant. This place also offers yaki puddings, Japanese cheesecakes, tiramisus and other dessert items along with limited time only seasonal specials. Definitely worth trying if you are visiting the area.
I had their cheese cakes several times before and they are totally delicious !! This time I had cheese tart which was yummy as well. The crust around is crunchy and cheese filling in middle is in custard texture which is very delicious as well. As 2 people we ate it all under 5 minutes !! I think the size is good 1 serving and go well with coffee. It was their 5th year anniversary so we were able to get %50 discount this time which was a real treat. Their Japanese cakes are very unique, delicious and will keep you coming here again and again.
I've only had the Matcha Double Fromage Cheesecake from here before and it's truly a delight. The cake offers a nice balance of creaminess and cheesiness that leaves a light refreshing taste in your mouth. The alternating layers of sponge cake, baked cheesecake, frozen cheesecake, and dusted cake crumbs creates an enjoyable multi-dimensional bite. I would say that this cake is a great option for Asian households that prefer lighter cakes that aren't too sweet!
What I ordered: * Yaki-pudding Cheesecake * Pistachio Cappuccino Taste: 4.5/5 The pudding was creamy and not too heavy. The sweetness was balanced nicely with the slight bitterness in the sauce. The cheesecake was airy but lost the fluffiness due to the moisture of the sauce and container, which is to be expected. For those who want to eat Japanese cheesecake for the traditional fluffy texture, I would suggest getting the cheesecake on their menu rather than the yaki pudding cheesecake. The pistachio cappuccino was also not overly bitter nor sweet. It had a slightly nutty flavour from the pistachio but was not too pronounced. Presentation: 3.5/5 While they had indoor seating, it was clear that the main customer base takes the order to-go. There was minimal effort in making the products look good for dine-in customers. Both the yaki pudding cheesecake and cappuccino were given in take out containers. However, if you enjoy flipping your own yaki pudding (which I do!), they give you a plate to do so. Ambience: 4.5/5 The interior had a super cute aesthetic that made me happy to walk into. On the left side, you have a wooden wall with wall planters filled with fake plants and Japanese decor. On the right-side side, you have a lemon-coloured wall with illustrations of the various desserts they offer. You can also smell the delicious cheesy goodness of the baked goods.
Great cheesecake café. All creations tastes so good and has great presentation. Some even come in a fancy container/capsule. I tried the mini Shiroi Valentine Soufflé Cheesecake. It was so good, creamy and sweet but not too sweet. It was kind of small, I wish it was bigger. A bit more pricey for the size, but worth it. The staff are so polite and friendly. Not too much selection at the end of the day. I'll be back to try other desserts!
This place is in a word: QUALITY Their menu is not huge, but that often means that the few items that are on the menu are top notch. And that is so true in this case. The cheesecakes are not very big, but again the emphasis is on the quality. Their offerings are fresh, rich and creamy. Every bite would bring me to a truly happy place. If that's the kind of experience you're looking for in a cheesecake, this is the place to go! They have a great online ordering system and pick up is easy. The packaging is also beautiful. But the true hero is inside...The perfect balance of creamy cheese and sugar. Would definitely recommend and will be returning in the future.
Great location, clean space and wonderful, helpful staff! We were hoping to get a whole Shiroi Valentine Soufflé Cheesecake but were told that we needed to pre order this (figured!). Sadly, even the mini versions were already sold out. It's a really popular item and you'll realize why after tasting it! We eventually ordered for the Double Fromage Cheesecake instead, and this wasnt a bad alternative at all! It's composed of three layers - frozen cheesecake, baked cheesecake and a thin layer of sponge cake. It's smooth and very creamy. I highly recommend this place!
As a regular, I was not expecting any less from this new yuzu pistachio double fromage cake ($22.95). It tastes better when refrigerated than frozen so you can savour the rich flavours better. I love the contrast of flavours in the salty pistachio and tart yuzu. The yellow on top is chocolate piece and it is surrounded by gold flecks which is a pleasant aesthetic touch Frozen yuzu mascarpone ontop of baked and sugar-roasted pistachio pieces over a spongey base pistachio base. The outside is coated with delicate pistachio cake crumbs. The packaging is also so cute! The outside has a white, yellow, and green sleeve written with Japanese. Great gift packaging!
We came to this location on their 3rd anniversary when it was 50% off one item per customer. Also, comes with a voucher for $10 off next $25+ purchase. The store is pretty small but the line moved fairly quickly. Service was fine given that they must have sold 10x the number of cakes they normally do during the 50% off event. We got the Japanese cheesecake. It was pretty similar to most other Japanese cheesecake places - didn't find it particularly better or worse. Has a nice light texture, subtle cheese and sweetness. Given so many options nowadays for Japanese cheesecakes, this is okay but not mind blowing. 3.5/5 Pro Tip: If you like the Japanese cheesecake with more cheese flavor, have it cold. If you like a lighter, more soufflé like texture, take your slice of cake and microwave it for 5-10 seconds. Don't do it too long or else it'll taste like cooked eggs! Also, got the matcha double fromage cheesecake. This is more like a traditional New York style cheesecakes with a frozen mascarpone on top and a baked matcha cheese cake layer on the bottom. This was really flavorful, had the subtle bitterness of matcha and the sweet cheesy mascarpone. The sponge cake crumbs seem unnecessary but maybe they add more matcha flavor. 4.5/5 They do package the cakes nicely and tell you how to properly store and serve them. Price: The regular Japanese cheesecake is $10 for 6 inches which is pretty good and comparable. The matcha double fromage cheesecake is over 20$ regularly for 4.5 inches - pricey but good for special events. Summary: Great place to get Japanese cheesecakes. Recommend the higher end cakes for special events to wow your friends.
As a pistachio lover I had to try Cheese Garden's newest Yuzu Pistachio Double Fromage Cheesecake! It came in a really beautiful gift box that can likely be repurposed to store other things after the cheesecake is consumed. Since the cheesecake comes frozen, it is recommended to leave it in room temperature for at least 15 minutes otherwise you would not be able to cut through it! I enjoyed the layers of the yuzu mascarpone cheesecake and baked pistachio cheesecake as it was not too sweet and the diced sugar roasted pistachio added a nice level of texture. Overall I really liked the cheesecake and it is the perfect portion size to share with a couple of friends!
I was able to snatch some delicious desserts during their 50 percent off event! I was very impressed with how fast and friendly their service! They were able to manage the crowd so swiftly! Cheese tart - 8/10 it reminds me of a egg tart but with cheese custard in the middle. The custard is more on the runnier side which is okay but I do prefer if the texture was a bit more firm. Matcha Tiramisu- 9.5/10 strong matcha flavour! Very delicious! You can see the different layers! I always enjoyed going to Cheese Garden! If I ever have a sweet craving, Cheese Garden is my go-to.
Recently had the chance to try the delicious macha cheesecake for a family celebration. It got the stamp of approval from the family as they pronounced it "great flavor but not too sweet", which is the highest form of approval from the elder generation. The bamboo box that it comes in is also delightful. Would recommend for anyone that likes the lighter Japanese cheese cake flavors. Creamy and light, perfect way to end a meal. read more
So I saw my last review from 5 years ago. Yesterday and today is Cheesegarden 6th anniversary. I hate waking up early for anything but decided that for a limited time double chocolate cake and the coupon, I will wake up early. This is well worth my calories and waking up early. And yes! I had two slices of chocolate cake for breakfast just now. The chocolate was not too sweet and as a tiramisu lover, having mascarpone in this cheese cake was like amazing for me. Top layer is a chocolate mirror glaze, one side with roasted almond, non bake mascarpone cheese, baked chocolate cream cheese and a thin layer of the chocolate sponge cake. The whole pieces of almond tucked inside the cake along with layers of chocolate was so delicious. This is my favourite cake so far from cheesegarden. All the ingredients were a good marriage in the cake. I really hope Cheesegarden can make this a permanent item on the menu! read more
Cheese garden never disappoints. They had limited edition cake which I loved but their regular double cheese cake is crowd pleaser. I have pretty much tried everything at this store and can say they are all unique and delicious. In the summer I love their sundaes because you can sample a bit of everything. The staff is always so friendly and helpful so dine-in if you like and enjoy the space since we were able to do that during pandemic. read more

This was alright, does the job but nothing crazy. I wish they had individual slices available for you to try instead of purchasing a whole cake. I'd probably go back to try something else but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

Been a year since I last visited and since they're celebrating two year anniversary, decided to check it out. They've added new items on their menu and they look amazing in the displays and would serve as great gifts for special occasions. Service is good if you have any questions the staff are patient to assist. n Got their new limited edition yuzu pistachio double fromage cheesecake. It came in a cute case that you could probably repurpose for other uses. It also comes with a product description that shows you what you're eating and what it's composed of, which is a nice tough. The cheesecake was impossible to cut with flimsy plastic knives, but once I got a better knife in it was not an issue. Each layer of the cake had its own distinct flavor and texture which was satisfying with each bite. It was an enjoyable dessert. Definitely something that you'd be missing out once the promotion period is over. read more
A friend had raved endlessly about this place, lamenting that this would be one of the things she missed most before moving back to Asia. And thus I tried it - pictured below is the Matcha Double Cheesecake used for a birthday celebration, a great portion for two people (probably also good for 3-4 ppl). The cheesecake is quite dense, and the matcha taste comes through. I personally prefer the matcha one, while my partner likes the original double cheesecake and deems it as one of the best cheesecakes he's ever had (comparing both American- and Japanese-style cheesecakes). I also love the Shiroi Valentine. The mini size is enough as I feel it's a little on the heavy side (as is the double cheesecake), and it is absolutely delicious with a mousse-like texture topped with white chocolate - this may be my favourite item at this shop. Having also tried some other things on the menu, these three items (the double cheesecakes and the shiroi valentine) are at the top of the list for me! read more

Such a cute store! I wish I got the chance to dine here before the pandemic. The menu is simple but unique. They serve your traditional Japanese cheese cake, a giant cheese tart, mini matcha or regular cheesecakes, and an assortment of drinks as well. I got the regular cheesecake and tart to go. Both tasted delicious and the tart resembled those egg tarts you get at dim sum restaurants. Very fluffy and delicious and I'd definitely recommend if you get the chance to go. read more
Came here for their 3rd year anniversary promotion; 50% any one item. We came 5 mins after opening and stood in line for about 45 mins. Street parking is paid parking even on a Saturday. We parked at finch station (free on weekends) because we didn't mind the 15 min walk. The shop is small (only seats about 10 chairs) so most people just pick up and go. There's about 5 different cakes you can get plus a few drinks. The system was pretty easy to pay, and the cakes were premade so pick up is quick. I got the double cheesecake (matcha). After discount, it came to $12 after tax. I found it quite pricey, I can't see myself spending $20 (reg price) on a 5" cake. Cute packaging though, cake came in a wooden box, with instructions on how to store the cake. Still frozen by the time I brought the cake home, had to wait a bit before it was manageale to cut. Top layer is cream cheese and bottom is matcha. Pretty much taste like ice cream. Highly recommend the bake tart! When reheated, the pastry is incredibly flaky, buttery and flavourful and the filling is light like the original cheesecake. I think I would stick to that or the original traditional cheesecake; I've only tried it at Uncle Tetsu, and the price is worth the uniqueness and lightness. Just my personal preference. read more
A friend sent over a matcha cheesecake via Uber eats for my birthday. I had it right away because I have no self control. It was a little frozen but pretty good. I worked on it for a whole day. And as it thawed out you can taste the flavour of the matcha a little more. That matcha mouse is so good. A very earthy strong matcha flavour. Best birthday breakfast I have ever had. I finally tried their cake after they've been around for such a long time and opened so many locations already! I purchased the matcha double fromage cheesecake. It was super delicious and can't believe what I've been missing out! The cake came out of the freezer in a cute little wooden box with Cheese Garden printed on it. The cake is a perfect portion for about 4 to 6 people who prefers a smaller slice of cake. The matcha flavour is just perfect and the cheesecake did not feel super heavy. Everything about it is just perfect! It's the perfect treat and I can't wait to try their other cakes and dessert options! read more
Come for the cheese tarts, stay for everything else! While their staple offering cheese tart is good (oozing with cheese, with a base that has the perfect level of flaky-ness), it's all the other things that make Cheese Garden worth a revisit. Our particular favourites are their matcha and white peach tiramisus: super creamy, outstanding flavor, and generous helpings of matcha sprinklings / peach chunks. Two big drawbacks though for the tiramisu: (1) It's pretty pricey at $13 with tax; and (2) The offering starts out as seasonal, and so there are usually long lines to get them. For example, the white peach one launched a few weeks back and, given they only make around 50 a day, they run out 30-45 minutes after opening. Believe the hype though - it's really good! read more

Came here to take advantage of the 50% off anniversary deal. We arrived at ~11:45am on the Sunday and had to line up outside. The wait time was decent, we got the original and matcha double fromage cakes in 25 mins. We let the 2 cakes sit at room temperature for ~1.5 hours before eating them. The info pamphlet said 30 mins, but I figured since it's fall, I should let them sit out a bit longer. When we cut both cakes, it was still slightly iced as we heard a crunching sound. However, when we ate them, we couldn't detect the ice, they were just a bit cold. The presentation of the cakes were gorgeous. The original cake was more creamy than the matcha one. They were both good, but if I had to choose one, I would choose the matcha one (I'm a big fan of matcha!) The matcha cake had a strong matcha taste, but not as strong as their matcha tiramisu. I had Le Tao's double fromage in Hokkaido a few years ago, and I would say Cheese Garden's still lags behind - maybe it's the quality of cream cheese and cream used? Nonetheless, the cakes were still really good! Would I come again? Yes, because I got a discount coupon from my purchase :p But would I pay regular price for the cakes? - probably not....unless it is for a special occasion. read more
My my my what to say that hasn't been said before? Let me say though, that the taste is real! I got the matcha cheesecake ($20.75) and a baked cheese tart ($8.75) in preparation for valentines, but I guess I got this too soon as we decided to dig into it much earlier rather than waiting The matcha cheesecake is quite tasty, with a heavy sprinkling of matcha on the outside. Cutting into the cheesecake, it appears the cheesecake portion sits on top of a layer of matcha cake visually. Taste wise, the first flavors that hit you are the creamy cheesecake, then the matcha flavors comes through at the end giving it a light matcha flavor over all, the matcha is not through out the cake. The cheesecake is quite tasty BUT given the price, I'm not sure it's worth trying it more then once. The baked cheese tart, now this was a real treat. As per the included pamphlet, we heated up the cheese tart for 5 minutes in a toaster oven then started to dig in. Again following the instructions, we broke off the crust to dip into the cheese center. At first look, the cheese tart is quite large, and we were expecting the crust to be dense but we were surprised as the crust was actually very light and flaky, almost croissant like. It definitely made sense to break off some of the crust and dip it in the cheese portion as the cheese was incredibly creamy and easy to dip into with the crust. I would dare say the cheese center, once heated up is almost a slightly denser cheese fondue depending how long you heat it up for. For the price, the taste, the texture and over all this cheese tart is definitely worth trying. If your a big dessert person, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try at one of its three GTA locations. Though if you aren't a true dessert aficionado, you may want to opt to just try the more wallet friendly baked cheese tart. read more
I'm always blown away everytime I have their double fromage matcha cheesecake! It's a mashup between cheese cake and ice cream cake, in the best possible way. Theres 3 layers: sponge cake, baked cheesecake, and frozen cheesecake. It is smaller and more expensive ($20) than their fluffy Japanese cheesecake, but so worth it! I always take advantage of their anniversary sale to get this ( don't tell anyone , they already have line ups during that time of year). I'd also recommend their cheese tart - its $8 and is a good size! Who doesn't love a warm cheese tart from time to time? I also want to try their tiramisu and other seasonal cakes, but I'm never in the area during that time (since I live far from North York). I want to taste them all and see which ones are good! read more
I came here 2 years ago to try out their Yuzu cake. It was to celebrate a special occasion, my family loved the cake it tastes refreshing, light yuzu cream, this item was a limited-time product(Yuzu Pistachio Double Fromage Cheesecake) I hope this flavour will come back soon in the summer. In this store, they also sell other cute small cakes and drinks. The parking here is street parking, you can also take the subway to finch and walk down the street. read more
Got the double fromage cheesecake for the first time. They now can preorder Tokyo Banana and other Japanese goodies in store. The service is OK. The location is OK convenient. The food taste OK, far from Letao. There is no Letao in Toronto so I guess this is the best best thing. read more
We decided to come back to this place to give it another try and to my surprise, the matcha cheesecake was a banger! It was not too sweet and perfect size for 2 people. The matcha taste was strong which is always a good thing and leaves you wanting more of it after every bite. We also ordered the same ice white peach tea which is a definite must because it cuts the sweetness and resets your tastebuds after each gulp. Highly recommend you get that drink! The service was polite and quick. We'll come back to try other their other items on the menu. read more

I just LOVE this place! I've tried so many things from here now but the matcha double fromage cheesecake is my absolute fav. A fun tip - if you put it in the freezer and then eat it frozen it is also reallly good. Kind of like a fancy ice cream cake! The regular double fromage cake is also 5 stars. Their Japanese cheesecake is not bad. Personally I don't think it's as good as uncle tetsu. The baked cheese tart is sadly horrible and I would never get it again. I think maybe I should've toasted it in the oven or something before eating it. The matcha tiramisu is good but I do find it to be on the expensive side. Same goes for their yaki pudding cheesecake. Delicious BUT way overpriced for the amount you get. read more
Cheese Garden is an adorable little spot in North York. They boast cheese based desserts from tiramisu to cheesecakes to soufflés. I really wanted to try the oolong peach tiramisu but it was sold out unfortunately. This time I opted for the siroi valentine souffle, which was garnished with white chocolate flakes. The cafe is order at the counter and if you opt for dine in you are given a plate with the dessert on it opposed to a to go container. The cafe has limited seating, just 4 tables - but it has a nice aesthetic vibe to it. The wall is also very aesthetic with many plants. I tried the matcha tiramisu in a previous visit and it was also quite delicious. The desserts are very fresh and made with high quality cream cheeses. They also have plenty of takeout options! In all, this is a solid spot for dessert in North York! read more
We ordered the tiramisu matcha cake $11.95. It came in a cute cardboard tub with wooden spoons. The cake was topped with matcha powder, it has cheese in the middle and a chiffon cake on the bottom. I liked the dessert as it was light, tasty and not too sweet. There was a strong matcha taste but not too overpowering like you would find at other matcha places (tsujiri, saryo). It didn't seem like a lot but it was the perfect amount for two people. The only downside is the fact that it was a little expensive, so it can't be a frequent dessert to have. I would like to return to try their drinks and other cakes. read more

I was actually really excited to try this place. It looks super cute from the outside. Store is clean and even some seating area. Came in to buy a cheesecake thought it would be similar to uncle tetsu. Which it is but a little less fresh. Uncle tetsu are usually warm and fresher due to high turn around. Also the matcha flavour is double the price of plain $10 plain $18 matcha Too much!!! If you live downtown or can get to downtown and craving cheesecake I'd recommend Uncle Tetsu or Uncle Tetsu Angel Cafe. Quality, price and variety all beats out cheesegarden. Advice to store: find something that will differentiate you from the other cheese cake shops read more
I've never had a Japanese cheesecake before, so I was pretty excited to try this place. I came here in the morning with a great friend of mine and we ordered the cheesecake with coffee. The cheesecake was very airy, fluffy and light. Unlike any other cheesecake, it wasn't too sweet at all, which was a pleasant surprise. It had just the right amount of cheese with a great texture. It was very unique and unlike any typical cheesecake I had in the states. I'd definitely recommend it!! The americano coffee was very good as well! We asked for a to go container for the leftover of our cake. The cashier put it in a box herself, and returned it to us in the most chic and cute bag. I was super impressed by this and loved the gesture! read more
Mmmm one of my favourite cheese cake places. The Matcha cheesecake is amaaaaaazing. The great thing about this place is they're confident in their product and will give free samples for everyone to try. You can try any of the items that have on the menu such as the matcha cheesecake, the regular cheesecake, an egg tart looking one... Trying a piece of the Matcha cake made me buy a whole entire one just for two people! its a pretty big cake but rather expensive. The packaging is beauuuutiful in this wooden box engraved with their company logo which is also really cute. They also once in awhile have matcha tiramisu as a limited time offer which is also really yummy. Unfortunately it does not come in the cute container as the pictures have it displayed in. I would have totally paid extra to have it in that container versus the ice cream tub it comes in. read more
My friend recommended Cheesecake Garden to me and said their cheese cakes tastes better than Uncle Tetsu's. I agree!! We ordered the 7" Japanese Cheesecake ($10.00). It was freshly baked when we ordered it so we got to try both the "fresh out the oven" texture and the "after putting it in the fridge" texture. If you prefer a softer texture then eat it right away. I prefer the cheesecake texture after putting it in the fridge for a while because it creates a harder "crust" on the top of the cheesecake. It is what I think differs Cheesecake Garden's cheesecakes from Uncle Tetsu's because I liked this "crust" on the top. It's also more (full)filling if you eat it after you put it in the fridge. It's a boutique shop, intended for you to grab and go but they are a few tables available for you to sit and eat. There's also free wifi available. read more
