I came here before Christmas on a weekday so it wasn't busy here. Literally in and out. Usually on a weekend you can't come late or else their sold out. Excellent location for Uncle Tetsu cheesecake. The original cake was fluffy, tasty, and an excellent mild amount of sweetness. I am also a huge fan for their cheese tarts. Some would complain that the cheese tart shell is much harder than the filling and it does not give a good contrast. However, over time, I would find myself thinking about this strange match and buy more tarts whenever I drive by! We went here to pick up a cake for a birthday. Located at the front of the (in)famous pacific mall, P-mall is still as busy as ever. Parking can be hectic so recommend coming early, if you can. This store front is small but once you step in, the fresh smell of cheesecake is mesmerizing. Staff are properly masked up and always seem to be making cakes. When we went early, there was essentially no line. We got a cheesecake for 12$. It was deliciously soft and fluffy with great cheese flavor. We've tried their cheese tart and madeleines on other occasions and can say they're good but still prefer the cheesecake. Price is fairly reasonable considering what you get and the quality of it. Came by Monday to pick up their infamous matcha cheesecake. It is a cute five inch round cake. It is like fluffy angel cake except it is made with cream cheese and in our case...the added matcha. We came on Sunday evening thinking that they may have the matcha by then but, we were wrong. The cake made it all the way back to the USA from Toronto. We also got the cheese tarts which was very good and the baked cake bits and pieces(rusk). The entrance to the store is not inside the Pacific Mall. The entrance is at the back of the building. It has its own entrance. So just drive around if you do not feel like walking. Uncle Testsu takes credit cards and has AC. Will get their matcha cheesecake again when visiting Toronto again. The following comment is for the mall and not Uncle Tetsu: The mall itself is not well ventilated. I felt suffocated being in there for about a hour. Most of the stalls in the mall are cash only. Most will accept American cash. Ratio is 1:1(American:Canadian). They are doing you a favor as they get to keep your extra currency from the exchange rate. I haven't had many Japanese style cheesecakes in North America, but Uncle Tetsu's is SO good!! Located right outside Pacific Mall (well, kind of inside? Hard to describe... we had trouble finding the way to get into Uncle Tetsu's from inside so we walked through the snowy and icy small entrance outside. Since it was so cold outside, the once warm cheesecake was cold by the time we walked back outside and inside Pacific Mall again. We got to try some free samples of the cheese tart, which were just alright. We decided to skip on buying those and got a cheesecake to share among 6-7 of us. And honestly, I regret it because I could have eaten an entire cake by myself, although maybe I could have restrained myself to just half of the cake... it was light and airy and fragrant. As others have mentioned, it's not as "jiggly" as I expected from videos I've seen online of Japanese cheesecakes. Even so, it was still tasty and worth a taste... or consuming of an entire cake. This was the first Uncle Tetsu location I visited when it was still quite new. This is like an express location, meaning it only has the signature cheesecake and tarts. The staff were very friendly and greeted us when we came in. We ordered the cheesecake and got the order immediately. Very fast and efficient service, granted there was no line at the time and it was raining a bit (which might have driven people away). For the cheesecake itself, it was sort of...lackluster? It really didn't live up to the hype for me, as it tasted more like cake than cheesecake. The texture was quite fluffy and wasn't too sweet, but it didn't have enough of a cheese taste for it to really feel like a cheesecake. I tried a similar Japanese style cheesecake in a random small bakery in Waterloo, called O'My Bakery, a few weeks later that I would say is actually a bit better than Uncle Tetsu's. read more

Decided to grab a cheesecake today as I had to get something from pmall. The access to Uncle Tetsu is on the outside of the mall, to the right of the main entrance that's facing Steeles Ave. They limit a few customers inside the shop at one time. Once you walk in, you'll instantly smell the heavenly cheesecakes. There were about five staff working on different things. I ordered their fluffy cheesecake for $12. If you're paying via cash, you can insert your bills and coins separately into a machine without having the cashier handle any cash. The machine even spits out your change for you (neat idea and most importantly, sanitary). I like their cheesecake because its not too sweet and its fluffy. Just pop it in the fridge until you're ready to eat it, then microwave it for 30-60 seconds and its ready to be devoured. read more

The cheesecakes here are nice but not spectacular enough for me to make a specific trip here. The parking situation is really bad and I'd never come on a weekend. One thing I don't understand about Uncle Tetsu stores is the bad customer layouts. They hardly leave any room for customers and the till is always in the wrong place. They really don't care about customer experience. I wouldn't know where to go if there was a long queue, then there's no space to wait for your order. There's enough space for around 10 people to stand, if that, and they infamously make you wait for your cakes, after you order them. This new Uncle Tetsu's just opened on the ground floor of the Pacific Mall. It's actually located on the ground floor of Pacific Mall with the entrance at the outside of the mall. Came here during dinner time and the line was about 20 minutes long. From the line outside, you can smell their cheesecakes! They have the Honey Madaleines, Rusks, and the classic cheesecakes. The cheesecake was exactly $10 (no tax) which makes it a really good deal considering how delicious they were. Love their cheesecakes due to the fact that they're always fresh, soft, and moist. I came on a Monday afternoon but the line was quite long and it took an hour to get my cheesecake. The reason it took so long is because they serve the cheesecake fresh. I saw them took the cake out of the oven and put another batch in to bake. So at least you know the cake is fresh and is not sitting there for a while. I got the Japanese cheesecake and I think it tasted alright. It wasn't as giggly as I expected and the flavor was a bit plain. The cheesecake flavor was not super cheesey but I think it was still worth a try. The price is very reasonable, $10 for one cake. Semi-new location opened uptown at Pacific Mall, where Uncle Tetsu is located at the right side of the mall's main doors. This shop is almost as small as the downtown location but interestingly, people tend to line up in a loop within the store instead of outside. We went mid-afternoon on a weekend and only had to wait about 10 minutes. We bought one original flavoured Uncle Tetsu's Cheesecake ($10 no tax) and a box of four Honey Madeleine ($6.64 plus tax) to snack on. Just admiring the store, I was amazed by the batch process and how efficiently they can bake cakes quick enough to satisfy customers within a confined area. For payment, they have dedicated machines that would take your cash and automatically spit out the change. Same with debit card purchases which can be done through their advanced cashier system. The cheesecake was amazingly good - just like every time! It's softness every bite would melt on your tongue slowly yet its never too sweet. Similarly, the madeleines were nicely made into moist cupcake-like molds. We were surprised their madeleines were so big, unlike the usual flat ones. My overall experience with this Uncle Tetsu was great. The only comment / suggestion I have is to make sure those cheesecakes are cooled down before serving into boxes because we've noticed our cheesecake was a bit too moist and the paper stuck onto the cake's surface. read more
