So while in town for work I wanted something good to eat. I was getting tired of eating out of the mini rrefrigerator in the room after a week. After reading the reviews I thought this was going to be it. Unfortunately Yelp was no help today. I had the hot and sour soup, egg rolls and chicken in garlic sauce with brown rice. So the soup was ok. Egg rolls just had an off taste not sure what it was just something seemed wrong with them. The chicken with garlic sauce I had 2 bites and the rest went to the trash it was not going to be worth the calories. So I tried it would not recommend it. I'm really disappointed with my experience, considering how many great reviews this place has. My boyfriend and I ordered chow mein (I posted a picture, for your entertainment). My boyfriend was asked by the cashier if we actually meant lo mein, which he denied and we received our food. After arguing about what chow mein is supposed to look like, I looked up pictures. This place definitely didn't make anything like what I found; seeing as none of the pictures had slimy, watery, or strange colored piles of soft vegetables that lacked flavor. I had General Tso chicken which seemed to be cooked well, just had a different flavor from any other versions of the dish I've tried. Can't say it was bad, just seemed "off". We had an awful experience with this restaurant recently. They advertise delivery service and we ordered through the restaurant website. It arrived well after the promised delivery time frame, which was already a 30 minute window, it arrived cold. We called the restaurant three different times to try to give them a chance to rectify it -- honestly, removing the delivery fee and a small % discount on our next order would have sufficed. However, all we got was runaround, excuses, blaming the delivery service (doordash) and barely even an apology, despite the order being placed through the restaurant's own website, etc. Finally they said they couldn't do anything until they got a refund from doordash themselves and they would email us the next day. We told them that three days response would suffice. We never heard from them again. The food here has been quite good in the past, but the attitude of multiple people, including 2 who claimed to be managers, was absolutely unacceptable in this instance and has colored my desire to ever eat here or recommend them to anyone. Additionally, they had a space for additional instructions on the order, and we asked for chopsticks, but these were not followed either. Fine dining at "L A" prices! I have been here quite a few times, and have yet to be served a bad meal. The staff is friendly and know all of the regulars by name and even by interest, teaching us Mandarine Chinese just for fun. They always serve hot towels afterwards with juicy oranges. read more

Ok, review update. From 4/5 to 5/5. Didn't know how spoiled we were until they closed for several weeks over Covid-19. Fried dumplings from ANY other place around here do NOT taste the same. Today, we were finally able to get a hold of this place, and after the first bite into the dumplings, we both INSTANTLY regretted not ordering 2 more portions of the same thing. You can literally taste the freshness and if you are impatient like me, you WILL burn your tongue bcz they apparently actually make these fresh. That's the only "con." They will customize any dish to your specs, and goddamn, please ask for their combo lo mein, "little bit spicy." Crying tears of joy that they're open again, no joke. Oh, obvi the delivery time is still less than half what they tell you, and the delivery person is still twice as sweet as you'd expect. Praise the Lord!!!!! read more

I came for the lunch buffet. Service was really good. They pour you water constantly and are respectful. As other mentioned, the selection is not that much but then again the foot/car traffic isn't much out there either. So I can't blame them for not having the full complement of favorites. It's surprising to see some mixed reviews. This place is all you can ask for. By the way, I live in Old Town Alexandria so it's a good 15 minutes down Route 1 South. I pass lots of Chinese places to get there. Now I don't know about their take-out or delivery but I can tell you the buffet and service are second to none. Yes, it's a very simple buffet with about 20-25 items total. But each of those items is truly incredible. All your American-Chinese favorites like Gen Tsos and Beef & Broccoli, and Chicken with Mixed Veggies. But they are all top notch. Plus, there's lots of mushroom and veggie dishes and egg rolls and soups and desserts. All delicious. When one dish is getting low, the chef runs another one out from the kitchen. Want the trick? Sit near the buffet and wait for the cook to run out a fresh dish - then get there first. Oh my. 1 minute from wok to your face! The kicker? The owner is a true gentleman and serves from the heart. He comes to each table to ask if everything is fine. This isn't some lip service - he means it. When a dish wasn't spicy enough, he went back to the kitchen and brought me a bowl of fresh made chili oil. I almost cried because of this care. Finally, the atmosphere is so relaxed. I take my time and eat all I want. Sit back. Drink some tea. Have some more. Whatever you want. A gem of a restaurant in all ways and I can't recommend this place enough. read more

Upgrading my 3 star rating to 4 stars Back in town again for a conference and was craving some Chinese food. Didn't want to hit traffic at 1800 on a Thursday so I decided to try Chef Huang's delivery service. Called and placed my order, gentleman was very nice and repeated the order back correctly and quoted me about 30-35 minutes. I decided to time it just to get some details for this writeup. 22 minutes and he was knocking on my hotel door. Signed my credit card receipt and tipped 20%. So far so good, the next part always worries me when it comes to delivered food. Shoddy packaging and spillage! Food was double bagged with paper on the inside and plastic on the outside, pretty standard. Opened up and proceeded to take all the various parts out. Steamed dumplings...check. Beef with Broccoli (hard plastic container)...check. Soy sauce (plastic container inside another plastic baggy)...check. They even packed all the additional condiments/utensils/napkins/fortune cookie in another plastic baggy. I was very impressed. oh...food tasted great too! The lady who took my order was very courteous. She diligently took the order and repeated back to confirm. We ordered Gen Tso's Chicken, Shrimp in Lobster sauce, crab rangoons, and a large egg drop soup. The order arrived within 30 mins. The food was packaged carefully and had generous amounts of Chinese goodness in it. Even the fortune cookies and duck sauce was packaged separately by the awesome package master. Now the food: delicious crab rangoons and I could (and did) eat them without dipping them in the sauce. However, I should note that they either forgot to include the red sauce that usually comes with crab rangoons or this particular restaurant does not include them. I'll ask them next time around. Gen Tso's Chicken was scrumptious at best. The fried chicken cubes were nicely drowned in their hot and spicy sauce. Wifey's shrimp and lobster sauce was fantastic and she would rate is 4 out of 5. Overall, a great experience and we are glad to have found a new Chinese delivery place in our new neighborhood. Will definitely order from here again! read more

BUT, the food tasted and looked like it was someone's chinese leftovers from the other night. Fried rice was greasy and tasted old, General Tso's chicken had this chewy breading on it. Definitely was not a fan and will not order from this place. The people were nice, but unfortunately the food did not live up to chinese delivery food standards.. which is really not that high. lol read more

I started ordering from a Kabob place that outside of Fort Belvoir but they was not answering the phone. I check and check. I only came down to this place. I love curry but this not so good. Here my review. Cab Meat & Asparagus Soup for two sound good but wrong. They used the left over water in cooking the crab lags. Uses a little bit of the Alaskan Crab lags and eggs.. Curry Lamb wash so so. It was: 30% onions, 20% carrots 10% baby crowns\ 40% slice lamb. I wood never order from here again. If so It wood be the Shrimp Egg Foo Young and hot and sour soup. Chef Huang's is my go-to place for Chinese when I want to stay home rather than driving to House of Dynasty over off of Telegraph Rd. I've had the egg rolls and the beef and broccoli from Chef Huang's a few times now and every time they have been spot on (much to my delight)! This weekend called for trying new things, so I ordered the crab rangoon and crispy sesame chicken. The food arrived in less than half the time the person on the phone said to expect and was piping hot. I opened the baggie with the crab rangoon to be surprised that instead of making them pretty little fancy shapes, the folks at Chef Huang's take an entire wonton sheet and fold it in half to make a triangle. Fine by me cause this means large pockets of creamy goodness (and with 6 pieces in an order, at this size you'll be able to share with a friend or two). The sauce of the sesame chicken dish is pretty damn good; it's more on the sweet side, so if that's not your thing then you should probably stay away from order it. I normally don't like sweeter sauces, but this one is kinda addicting....the kind of goodness where you just ate a bowl full of it and are stuffed, but if you don't put the leftovers in the fridge quickly, you find yourself going back for another bite. My only issue with the dish is a minor one. Even though the food arrived quickly, there was so much sauce on the sesame chicken that it was nowhere near crispy. Chef Huang's - And interesting take on foodporn - Chinese Near Me - Alexandria, Virginia

One of the better take-out Chinese places in the area. The place is located in a small strip mall with a tiny and inferior Giant, a Taco Bell, a Pizza-Hut (carryout/delivery only), and parking that, while plentiful, is awkwardly arranged with the traffic light that it's just an annoyance. It's got about 10-12 or so booths that could reasonably accommodate 4 people in each booth, but I have rarely seen anyone actually dine in. They have solid dishes, with the General Tso's and Fried Rice being my go-to dishes. They also have Peking Duck, which I get occasionally. None of the places in the area give out those fully white buns with the duck, and basically steam tortilla (soft taco shells). It works, but not quite the same as the buns. I occasionally have trouble with some of the other Chinese places with communication, but the two people I've dealt with from Chef Huang's, while speaking with a distinct accent, also enunciate clearly enough that I've never had any issues with understanding what they were saying. They don't offer any coupons that are typical of most take-out places. It's never been a deterrent. Service has also never been an issue. If anything, sometimes they deliver way faster than the time estimate; coming within 15 minutes while I was expecting a 45 min delivery time. Weirdly, on 2 separate occasions that I've done carry-out because my order was under $15 (which is listed as the minimum on the menu), they asked me why i didn't call for delivery. Eh? read more
