We loved that he advised us on all areas of our event - helped connect us with a bar service, create a menu, and offered great ideas and presentation that not only met our needs but made the meal really special. We had searched for a while to find a caterer, and really scored by finding Brian! He's not only an experienced chef, but because he's local to the North Conway area, he could prepare food in his own commercial kitchen and bring it to our venue. This eliminated the need to bring in a portable kitchen, and dramatically decreased the catering cost compared to other caterers we talked with. He offered so many extras other caterers don't - plates, flatware, sign boards, etc. - all of which would otherwise need to be rented, that it really reduced the cost and simplified the whole process. I can't recommend Brian enough. He's a professional, talented chef, a great resource for planning an event, and a nice guy!

It's been over two months since my wedding, and I'm still getting comments from friends and family…read moreon how incredible Barry's food was. Even the vegan commented that the cheddar and honey stuffed filo was incredible. When I first met Barry we asked about his accent - turns out he's from South Africa, in a region called Durban. That community is known for being very diverse in culture. He also spent time in California and, obviously, now lives in VT. As soon as he learned that my mother is Indian, but grew up in East Africa, and that both our families love a variety of foods the menu started planning itself. Bhajias, cheddar and honey stuffed filo, samosas, crab cakes, chicken satays - and that's just the appetizers! Each item was meaningful and mouth watering. Dinner was done buffet style. I was a bit concerned about the speed of this and how it would go over with guests (I think everyone loves being served). In the end, people could ask for extra of what they wanted, skip what they didn't, and some managed to get up for seconds. It worked perfectly. Dinner was a wine and herb mopped roast, peri peri style shrimp and scallop kebabs, salt potatoes (simple, but really well done), butternut polenta pie (vegan) and vermont mac and cheese (I regret not getting seconds on this - but as the groom I barely finished my plate) I'd go on about which items I like... but that would be a book - every thing was just perfect, fresh and really well done. The staff was also incredible. He hires a number of high school kids, and some alumni, for weddings. At first I was concerned, but then learned the local high school has a culinary program, so these kids aren't just trying to make a buck - this is what they want to do, and it really showed. Additionally, Barry wasn't exactly kicking back - it seemed like he was every where at once - prepping the buffet serving appetizers and some how I kept hearing his booming laugh as he interacted with guests who just had to stop him to tell him how great the thing they just ate was. The price was right in the middle of what I compared, but the quality, quantity and creativity of the menu put this as possibly the best wedding meal I've been to. (If I can say so myself). A few notes: Barry does not do bar service. If you need alcohol, you'll have to find another bar tender. I went with Phat Kats and was really happy. There was some question about how water would be served - but between Ohana, Barry and Phat Kats I didn't have to worry about it and it got done. We had a destination wedding in Burlington and we can all confidently say that Chef Larry's food was one of the highlights of our special weekend. Even at our restaurant reception dinner, our guests were half-joking when they said they wished they were eating Chef Larry's food instead. We had our wedding in Vermont primarily because we loved the food, and Chef Larry's cooking exemplified everything we adored about Vermont's farm to table scene. He was so patient and accommodating when it came to our guests with specific dietary restrictions. He happily made smaller portions to accommodate those guests, all without sacrificing presentation or timeliness. None of our guests with dietary restrictions felt like they were missing out or being given a sub-par substitute. I highly recommend the Vermont Cheese Plate. Chef Larry only put cheeses on there that could be found within a 50 mile radius. These were some of the best cheeses I've ever tasted. In fact, all of his ingredients were fresh and local. We ordered 1 Vermont Cheese Plate, 2 appetizers (the lamb lollipops and spinach and feta mushrooms), the heirloom tomato salad, the roasted roots as a side dish, and 2 entrees (roasted pork loin and coconut chickpea curry). This fed 14 people and we even had leftovers for days! Since we were staying in an Airbnb, we were worried that the kitchen might not be able to accommodate the needs for cooking a huge meal, but Chef Larry came prepared. We were able to go through the kitchen and let him know what we had/didn't have, but he was able to provide his own kitchen ware and serving platters (we provided plates and utensils). This was a huge relief and convenience because we didn't have to go out shopping for serving platters that we would only use once. We did not have to lift a finger. Instead of us cooking and hosting or even driving to a restaurant, ordering, and waiting, we were able to use that time to spend quality time with all of our guests and enjoy the meal together in the comfort of our Airbnb. This was so much more fun than going to restaurant. Chef Larry truly took care of everything so we were able to focus on just enjoying ourselves. In addition to being an amazing cook, Chef Larry is a truly genuine and kind person. Our guests enjoyed chatting with him in the kitchen and you can really tell that he loves what he does. Honestly, we are so jealous that Vermont has a gem like him. If you are considering hiring a personal chef/event chef in Vermont, look no further than Chef Larry!
