If you're anywhere near Lincoln, NH, do yourself a favor and check out The Common Man. This has become one of my family's favorite restaurants, and it's easy to see why. From the moment you walk in, the experience is different. If there's a wait, you can help yourself to a complimentary cheese and dip tray while you wait for your table. Even if you're seated right away, you can still grab a plate for your table. It's such a nice touch that you don't see very often anymore. Their beer and cocktail selection is fantastic and changes with the seasons, so there's always something new to try. Then the famous homemade dinner rolls arrive and they're so good they put Texas Roadhouse rolls to shame! For an appetizer, we ordered the Mexican street corn dip. It had just the right amount of spice and was absolutely delicious. My wife had the blackened fish tacos, I ordered the Asian tuna bowl, and my daughter got the same bowl with salmon. Every dish was cooked perfectly, fresh, and full of flavor. Just when you think the meal is over, they come around after you pay with a heaping scoop of homemade white chocolate. It's another thoughtful touch that makes the experience memorable. The prices were more than fair, the portions were just right, and the service was excellent. Restaurants like this where you truly feel welcomed and can enjoy a genuine family dining experience are becoming harder and harder to find. 5/5 stars. Saturday night is date night for us. We live an hour from here and had eaten here a long time ago. As we live in a smaller town, most of our dinner dates are local places where we seldom even have to look at the menu to know what we want. Tonight, I was in the mood to try somewhere else and suggested we eat here. We are both so grateful we decided to drive to Lincoln. The drive across the Kancamagus makes it an enjoyable drive to get there and home.. Now onto dinner. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs, and even helped when we had questions, as they know their dishes well. My wife chose the Burrata Chicken dish , and was very happy with her choice. For me, I chose The Sweet Corn, Bacon Ravioli ..This meal was so flavorful and was beyond what I was expecting. As we took 1/2 our meals home and a load of their bread, this meal was one of the better meals we've had and yet, the price for this dinner was about the same as we'd spend most anywhere else. read more

This was the best meal of our trip! Baked scallops were excellent. Served with basmati rice and a nice mixed seasonal vegetable of yellow and green squash and carrots. A complementary bread basket that included garlic dusted dinner rolls, and a couple slices of blueberry lemon bread, which were delicious. I overheard the waitress telling another patron that the blueberry lemon bread was available for purchase, so I made sure to take one to go. I was very disappointed when I went to eat it a few days later, that the bread I received was not the same as the one that was in the bread basket. It had no lemon flavor and it was crumbling apart. My husband ordered chicken tenders, which were fine. Dessert was so yummy. It was a brownie sundae with incredible hot fudge. I would definitely return or visit another of their locations. read more

The atmosphere at Common Man is incredibly cozy, welcoming, and perfect whether you're stopping in for a casual meal or a drink after spending time on the slopes It's the best feeling lounging around a nice fire, sipping a nice cold beer and enjoying some great food. The food is excellent - comfort food done right. A nice menu with great variety and a specials daily menu. Everything about this restaurant made us feel cozy and right at home. The food portions are generous and just what we needed after a cold day outside. They have lots of tables (2 floors), but also are super popular and busy. I read from other reviews to get there early to avoid the rush. We decided on a very early dinner at 4:30PM on a Saturday and by the time we left (~5:30PM), there was a long wait for a table. I think that speaks for itself on how much people want to eat here. Our server always checked in on us and made sure we were enjoying our food and time there and they have complimentary crackers, dip, and white chocolate at the end. Goodbye dinner with friends at this venerable restaurant in Lincoln, NH. The dining room is a perfect setting for New England-radiates warmth. After a full day of exploring the Kancamagus Highway--hiking, chasing waterfalls, and pretending we were in a travel commercial--I was ready for one thing: a good cocktail. We ended up at The Common Man, and it turned out to be a very uncommon treat. They kick things off with whimsical little offerings of creamy cheese and crackers, which instantly won me over. My potato chip-crusted haddock was fantastic--perfectly cooked and just the right amount of crunch to make me wonder why we're not coating everything in potato chips. My cocktail, crafted by our lovely server, was so good I rewarded myself with a second round (self-care, right?). We closed with a brownie à la mode that officially ended the day on a high note--decadent, warm, and worth every step we took earlier to "earn" it. Now, about the host... let's just say he might've missed the "common courtesy" part of the name. Our first impression was rocky--borderline rude, actually--and we almost left. But I'm so glad we didn't, because our server completely redeemed the night with her humor, warmth, and top-notch service. Cozy larger diner style restaurant with a big menu to please anyone. They also have a little shop with local items. Went on a Monday at dinner time and there was a 45 min waitlist so prepare for a possible wait or make a reservation ahead. Once seated, there is a complimentary cheese and cracker table. You're also given a nice dinner roll and crumb cake type roll in a bread basket. The pot roast was cooked nicely and had a heavy gravy sauce. The roast itself was a mid tier cut of meat, could've been trimmed a bit better though still fine. Beans and mashed potatoes were good and complemented the roast nicely. Got the apple sangria from the fall flavor menu. It was just okay but would've ordered something else instead. However, the apple cider cake was absolutely phenomenal. Wonderful strong apple flavor baked right into the cake and the frosting was the perfect amount of sweetness. Arrived about 45 minutes before closing. Felt like they were more worried about closing down for the night than providing quality food and service. Hubs had the meatloaf. He said it was ok, but certainly not great. I had the pot roast. It was dry and lukewarm as were the mashed potatoes. The asparagus was terrible. The tiniest thinnest spears I've ever seen and over cooked. The ends were black. The manager did refund the up charge for the asparagus but certainly didn't seem too bothered that they were serving a poor product. read more

A charming restaurant with great service and a pleasant atmosphere. The food was solid overall -- appetizers and cocktails were especially good. The only disappointment was the steak, which wasn't quite up to par. Everyone else at our table enjoyed their entrees, though, so I'd definitely go back to try something different. read more

We were welcome basically by everyone who crossed path with us. This is our first trip to this part of NH and we arrived just in time for dinner. The ambiance was very welcoming and pleasant, we had Brian as server (was being trained but he was amazing) He was very pleasant and attentive and made our dinner a more enjoyable experience. Both of our dishes were pretty good, the complimentary crackers and cheese, the cut up white chocolate at the end and signing the book makes this place a very memorable one. I have to acknowledge the exceptional service we received on a Friday at 5:30. We three ordered several appetizers and were pleasantly surprised by the pumpkin and mascarpone ravioli which was a delicious meal in itself. We visit this spot every time we're in the White Mountains. We started with the corn dip (elote, Texas-style), which was delicious--I'd give it a 4.8 out of 5, though it would have been perfect with some cilantro. Next, we had the pesto haddock, a usual favorite, and this time it was even better thanks to extra pesto--definitely a 5 out of 5. We also tried the Mac and cheese burger. The burger and fries were excellent (5 out of 5), but the Mac and cheese itself was a letdown--more like buttered noodles with barely any cheese, so just a 1 out of 5 for that. Lastly, we ordered the New England pot roast. Compared to what I'm used to in Texas, this version was sliced and served with brown gravy, which I didn't care for--1 out of 5. However, the mashed potatoes and green beans were solid at 4.5 out of 5. Service was outstanding as always. We'll definitely keep coming back. read more

My husband and I came here after finally arriving to NH. This place was really big. They had alot of seating, downstairs and upstairs as well as a part of it outside on the top floor. They offer cheese and dip with crackers when you walk in - which is a great touch - especially if there's a long wait. It was very busy but we did not have to wait. Along with the crackers and dip, they gave us complimentary bread which was really good. We started with the 'Elote corn dip' with nachos which was delicious. VERY Flavorful! My husband got the Meatloaf which he enjoyed and I got the 'Chicken Pot Pie'. All the entrees were huge portions, even the people around me had huge portions, so it definitely was not just our meals. They were hearty meals! For dessert, my husband had the Carrot Cake and I had the Creme Brulee. His cake was super moist which is sometimes hard to do with a carrot cake. And it's hard to go wrong with a Creme Brulee! Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable, checked in on us just the right amount of times. She was definitely busy and running around but she was great. The manager also stopped by to see how we were doing. I had a good experience here. Common Man is what happens when you run out of ideas. You're too tired after a hike and you look up what's on the highway and Google has fourteen results for places named Common Man that have 4+ stars (spoiler, they all are the same). Oh, and Tilton Diner. Because fool me once, right? It's tricky here, though. It's not BAD, per se, it's just kinda eh. It suffers from the problem of trying to please too many people at once. Yes, they have a lo mien noodle dish. But they also have a steak. And also, they have fish because nothing says seafood like a state with 10 miles of coastline. Whenever I see a menu longer than a page or so, I know what I'm in for. The steak is going to taste strangely like the steak tips, the cod cream sauce is going to be reminiscent of the pasta alfredo. But, I mean, it's heavy and they have local beer. If you've walked less than 10 miles that day, probably look elsewhere. But hunger, as they say, is an excellent spice. read more

The Common Man is an institution. The block of cheese and the other spreadable cheeses that just sit out in the dining room lend a very old Yankee feel to the experience. The menu is very smartly done. There are a good number of main dish choices and many of them have the same fixed sides, green beans and mashed potatoes. I think not trying to offer 3 kinds of potato and a rice dish etc is smart. I had a sirloin steak and it was correctly cooked to my requested medium and nicely seared. I enjoyed (and cleaned) my plate but the steak itself was not as highly seasoned as I am used to compared to how steakhouses typically serve them. My partner had the Apple walnut chicken dish which was unique and had a very rich maple cream sauce. The Common Man is very popular and was running a wait list even on a weekday in April when we went. There is a prominent 'cell phone free dining' sign at the host station but this was unfortunately widely ignored. The parking lot was seriously about 80% Massachusetts plates and the volume level and vibe in the dining room definitely felt it. On the day we went it was mostly families with children and older childless couples. Weirdly I feel like The Common Man appeals to basically the same group as Cracker Barrel. The food is certainly aiming higher than Cracker Barrel but the menu and atmosphere are both deliberately more rustic home style cooking than innovative or modern. At least one of the 2 breads served with dinner each day are apparently different each day which is a nice touch. Personally, the loud dining room and leisurely pace of our meal left me happy to get out of there. If I was there with a larger group and wanted dinner to be the highlight of the evening I think it would have been a better fit. I think its status as an enduring New England tradition is well earned but it wasn't a hit for me. read more

I highly recommend this spot if you're in the area! It has such a cozy atmosphere, with both upstairs and downstairs dining, and one room even features a roaring fire for a warm, inviting experience. The service was excellent, and the food was absolutely delicious. They start you off with warm rolls, apple bread, crackers, and cheese! I'm started going to this restaurant after it first opened and was always impressed. Since the COVID outbreak, the restaurant has taken a sharp decline in its menu and the quality of its food. Each time we go hoping it will improve, but are disappointed. For instance, the waiter allows us to keep ordering things off the menu that aren't available rather than tell us what's available. Granted they did take the salad with wilted greens off our bill, but giving us a well-done steak for medium rare order is just completely unacceptable. The waiter should've been able to see that let alone the chef. I guess we should've been able to see that from the last few visits we've had. It is a beautiful place. read more

You couldn't ask for better decor for the white mountains with plenty of cozy vintage kitsch and an enormous fireplace. This place gets packed, but there are quite a few spaces to sit while you're waiting to your table. Some spaces even have accessible cheese and crackers, which helps for those who are hangry. This transferred over to table service too where they get you a bread basket to start. The service was lackluster. It took a long wait for anything really - drinks, food, the check, etc. The food was also just okay too. We got the lobster chowder, and our daughter got the Mac and cheese. What was delicious though were the desserts (caramel brownie sundae and chocolate ding dang dong). Highly recommend getting those, but maybe for takeout. read more

My wife and I were in Lincoln, NH on a Fall roadtrip and dined at this place on our last night in town. I got the Fried Pork and my wife got the bacon ravioli. Both were very good! They make sure you get your money's worth too. They have a complementary "cheese bar" you can help yourself to when you're seated. They also bring you fresh rolls/bread before your meal and some white chocolate after your meal. The atmosphere had a fun, almost Irish-type vibe to it. Such a great location and ample parking. Walked in on a Saturday afternoon after hiking and wanted to eat. Came here and it didn't disappoint. Started off with the pork belly bites which were amazing! The pork was fried to perfection and had a little kick from the pepper jack corn bread with hot honey drizzled on top. Everything went well together and who knew pork belly and corn bread matched lol. For the main dish I ordered the special which was their version of chicken parmigiana. No cheese on top of the chicken and the chicken isn't fried either. The sauce isn't red but was more of a garlic lemon Alfredo sauce and it was really good! Don't let the dish fool you by looking bland and healthy, trust me it's very flavorful and delicious.
