Chris set our table beautifully, served us 2 salads (an awesome herbed orzo salad with goat cheese + a delicious broccoli salad) and set up a lovely buffet for our main course! We got local fluke in a caper sauce, a skirt steak, roasted cauliflower, asparagus, and zucchini, roasted sweet potatoes, + INCREDIBLE mac and cheese!! She had heard of this dude from some friends, and since my mother and I are very much into eating, drinking, and being merry, this was a perfect present. According to his press packet, we had the choice of hosting a dinner party, taking private culinary classes with Chris (knife skills, learning basic sauces, creating a meal step by step right beside him), or having him prepare us a series of meals for the week that he will package up and be ready for heating whenever we wanted. We didn't get around to scheduling something with Chris until November 2010. We decided to do a simple dinner party. Chris was super-easy to work with regarding scheduling, and then went over and above the necessary service in designing the perfect menu for our party of five. Despite a shellfish allergy, a nut allergy, one guy who doesn't eat most vegetables, and a mushroom hater -- he put together a menu that made all five of our mouths water. On the day of the party, he arrived at my mother's house three hours early to prep. At first, because she has an open kitchen, dining room, and living room set-up I thought it was going to be weird to have Chris cooking and all of us lounging around, chatting about everything from can-can dance to cancer, and drinking in his earshot. It couldn't have been better. Chris was personable, chill, and really easy to talk to PLUS he was a total ninja in the kitchen and prepared a four-course meal from scratch without so much as a clang of a pan. The best part: the food was INCREDIBLE! Appetizer: Sausage, peppers and white bean ragout over Asiago polenta Pasta: Penne alla Vodka - Penne tossed with pancetta in a light vodka tomato cream and topped with parmagiana. Entrée: Choice of Garlic and Fennel-Encrusted Filet Mignon topped with Gorgonzola and Pancetta Chip OR Veal Osso Buco in wine and tomatoes topped with gremolata Sides: Cabernet-Saffron Risotto, Rosemary-Honey Cream, Seared Garlicky Spinach Dessert: Cannoli di Ricotta with Espresso Sauce and Orange Marmellata The second best part: This cost $60 PER PERSON! The coordinator refused to speak with me on the phone, hid behind emails and text messages, offered weak excuses, took little to no accountability, and showed absolutely no sense of urgency or genuine remorse. There was zero effort to make things right or help us find a solution after they left us scrambling at the last minute. This wasn't just an inconvenience, it ruined one of the activities my cousin had been most excited about for her bachelorette weekend. We planned our weekend around this reservation, trusted their repeated confirmations, and were left with virtually no time to find a replacement. If a business can't honor reservations they confirmed multiple times or communicate professionally when they make a mistake, they shouldn't be taking bookings. Their customer service was unacceptable from start to finish, and their lack of professionalism was shocking. I would never book with this company again and would strongly caution anyone considering them. If you're planning an important event, don't risk it with a business that can cancel on you at the last minute, refuse to communicate, and leave you to deal with the consequences. They are not a reputable or trustworthy company.

I would strongly advise against working with Robyn's Kitchen--- I hired Robyn to cater my mother's 70th birthday dinner three months in advance. Because we were hosting a smaller event, it often felt like Robyn couldn't be bothered to respond to our messages. When we had unresolved questions with the chef originally assigned to us and reached back out to Robyn, she simply forwarded our email back to the chef without resolving the issue. About a month before the event, Robyn emailed to let us know the original chef was no longer working with her and assigned us a replacement. She provided no details about the new chef, leading to an extremely uncomfortable situation when he arrived: it turned out he wasn't even her employee, but an outside contractor helping her out because she was "overbooked" (his words). When we later reached out to ask how to finalize payment with him, Robyn replied very rudely, stating we had to work that out with him because she'd already told me he wasn't one of her chefs (she had not told me that initially). It was incredibly disappointing.

I have to point out certain things that stood out to me: the chicken was purchased from a butcher, jumbo shrimp were used and so incredibly fresh and succulent! Because Penne alla Vodka is a favorite in my family, an extra batch was made so everyone could take some home to enjoy again! After dinner, my kitchen was completely cleaned and all dishes, pots, etc were washed. My daughters BF bought a cheescake for dessert so at that point it was time for Chef Lance to leave.
