I reviewed the diner several years ago. In between that review and now, we had visited several times and I always felt it was about a 4*. We always enjoyed taking visitors there. What happened??? Our visit was with 4 people and it was almost lunch time. Our orders included a breakfast meal which was freshly cooked and close to perfect. The chili was good (canned?) but the cornbread was dry and hard. Then, we get to the sandwiches and we could not believe what we were given. To begin with the philly was served on toasted bread. It was absolutely awful and the only reason we knew it was a philly was because that's what she ordered. Next came the french dip with the au jus. The au jus was thick and cool and wasn't worth dipping. There was very little meat and it should not have been on the menu. This should be a 1* but am giving them the benefit by rating it 2*. read more

Older gentleman at the register is always friendly. We stop here at least once a week for non ethanol gas when we are at our lake cabin. Never any complaints until today when we stopped for a coffee and a bottle of water. The total was $4 - used our debit card, gal told us she needed to charge $1.50 if the total was under $5 ?!?! Charging us $1.50 after spending over $100 filling our truck on non ethanol?!?!? I've never been charged that when I would run in for a coffee while my husband filled up...seems a little excessive. read more

We stumbled on this gem on a daytrip to South Mt St Helens. What a great find! The log cabin store has a little bit of everything, fishing/camping supplies, gas, propane, groceries, deli, home/auto fix it's, souvenirs, and "Grandmas Kitchen"! The food was wonderful, and they have specials, great prices too! You need to stop if you are in the area! read more

Great little general store. A bit pricey, but that's to be expected from a place as isolated as this. The kitchen serves up some really good food and some of their items are made from scratch. Their gravy is some of the best I've had. Staff is also super friendly. read more

This place is a gem! We were traveling in the area and got a flat and were able to limp it down the road to this store. To our surprise they had a full on restaurant where we enjoyed lunch while we waited on a tow truck. The staff was so friendly and we enjoyed a great lunch! Kind of a cool store in my opinion. Has a little bit of everything from what we could see. Popped in because I'd never been through there so we could take a peek and grab a cold beer for when we got home. The prices are on par with pretty much everywhere else locally. I grabbed a 19.2 OZ single can of Widmer IPA for $2.59. Lots of other stuff you'd expect in a General store. The lady working the register seemed uninterested, but that's ok. read more

After 4 hours of paddling in search of the elusive Kokanee on Lake Merwin I was STARVING. It's a pretty nice store with a cafe on the inside. I got the mushroom Swiss burger and a cup of soup for around $8. It was good but not great. A little bland but on a cold rainy day it hit the spot. The service was ok. Overall it was a good experience and I would eat here again. Next time I will wear my camo so I won't stand out. LOL read more

Love this place! Candy, drinks, ice cream, clothing! The chicken strip lunch is worth your money!

This is one of those mountain general stores that has a little bit of everything. From prepared foods to dry goods to work gloves to ice to wood... even those hard foam beer koozies (not the collapsable neoprene ones) with dumb jokes like "Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the paramedics" and "A life... where can I download one of those?!" in comic-style fonts on the outside of them. We stopped at this store specifically because I could tell, just from looking at the outside, that they'd have koozies for our campsite beers. Lo and behold they do have a koozie selection, and a very WT one at that. Beware, however... one of our koozies had a $1.99 price tag on the bottom but rang up at $4.99, which is more than double the price. We tried to ask the cashier about the discrepancy and we got blank, confused stares from her (and kind of a crappy attitude). A "look I'm new and I don't want to deal with this" response. There was literally one other person in line. We needed (yes, need is the right word) those koozies so we sucked it up and bought them, but I don't think bait-and-switch pricing is all that cool. However this store is well-stocked with a variety of goods, so as long as you're eagle-eye on price tags and what they're ringing up for at the register, this could be a very useful stop. For our last full day in Washington decided to drive up to Mount St Helen's. Unlikely though due to rain and low clouds covering most of the area. It was a nice drive anyway and after failing to get any closer than the town of Cougar we headed south toward Battle Mountain, Walnut Grove and back to the hotel. We rounded a bend and spotted this market and sign kitchen open and considering it was Noon stopped for lunch. In the corner was the dining area replete with metal chairs and tables. The menu was generally deli style with various sandwiches. The Mrs. went for the Egg Salad sandwich (about 2" thick) and I took the Chili Burger ( actually a "Chili Size"), it came with fries and soup or salad. Being wet and about 38 deg. outside opted for the Soup de Jour which was homemade chicken rice. talk about comfort food, I could have ate about 3 more bowls of this! Mmm! My burger came out and what had in front of was a giant, maybe 1/2 # patty on an open face bun with cheese and slathered with about 2 cups of delicious red! Also homemade! This was absolutely the best Chili I've tasted aside from my own of course! Leave fat and sassy commented if I lived in the area this would definitely be a Sunday motorcycle destination! read more

Drove down from Everett, Wa. to check this place out, saw a post from "Only in Washington" about it. Well we were not disapointed in the least after a 200 mile drive. Food was great ,the staff was so friendly and helpful. The portions were awesome, I had a half order of the scramble and I couldnt eat it all. Its definatly worth the drive and If you have time drive around the back side of Mt.St.Helens. Beautiful countryside. read more

Every time I am up in the area on what ever adventure we have planned we stop at this convenient store. Last time I went the lady was very friendly and even gave us a map of the area because she didn't want us getting lost, what a gal!! The selection at the store is about average. You cannot use a debit card unless you spend more than $5, I'm not a fan of that. There are always people outside pumping gas or inside shopping that glare, i don't know why but I don't like it but it might just be the area. read more

We travel a lot (mostly in or around AZ, CA, NV, WY, ID, MT, OR, WA) you will find us during the summer months in the NW where the weather is best, but during the winters we stay pretty close to AZ; and this summer(2015) we found a little Restaurant that we have really come to enjoy, it is way off the beaten path but only about 5 miles from Amboy, WA (HWY503) if you will. If you like to sight see the back roads as we do LEAVE the FWY and head to Amboy, WA from there set your GPS for COUGAR, WA and you will drive right by GRANDMA'S KITCHEN where you will want to stop going and returning; I took a picture of the owner standing in her kitchen that everyone refers to as GRANDMA'S KITCHEN and put our picture on the bottom left corner. We bought into a Resort for RVers near by and have been going to Grandma's Kitchen almost weekly for the last couple months or so. We have had lots of Pancakes for breakfast, plus ate there at Lunch and several dinners with steaks and potatoes I enjoy most (I'm a big breakfast eater and enjoy 2 plate size pancakes, 2 eggs, 4 strips of bacon and a couple cups or so of HOT tea), they have a general store with about anything anyone would need, plus its has a Gas station if you need GAS or DIESEL , please tell Grandma Hello if you stop in after reading this from us. read more
