It's been awhile since we've stopped here. It was a beautiful day so we decided to take my husband's classic car out for a drive in the countryside. We decided to stop at Don & Jo's for lunch. We ordered two double bacon cheeseburgers, along with tater tots and a vanilla malt shake to share. Their shakes are thick and delicious! The tots were good too! We asked for ranch (tasted homemade) and fry sauce for the tots. The fry sauce was just okay, we both preferred the ranch. The burgers didn't seem fresh this time. We usually love their burgers, but they were just okay this visit. They definitely weren't hot off the grill as they were lukewarm. A bit of a disappointment after paying almost $40 for fast food. You simply can not get a bad meal here. Been eating here for over 30yrs at this point! (Yes I took a 20yr hiatus for work in Southern California) but had my first burger here in 1997. Nothing has changed, in the best way. Theres a reason there's a line in the drive thru everyday. Nicest employees, cute to sit inside in the winter, nice to sit outside in the summer and always, always taste just as good if you pick it up to take home, never soggy or cold by the time you get it home. Personally, I love these burgers. My kids love them too. Love the drive thru, but sometimes it can take a while. We come often as it's just down the street. The workers are friendly. Never had a bad customer service experience. Not much seating area, the outside tables are basically in the parking lot. Nothing to complain about except the French fries are soggy. I've been meaning to try this place for sometime and finally made it happen today. We just got soft drinks and some fries, but it was a very positive experience. The crinkle cut fries are amazing and they offer about a half dozen different dipping sauces ($.50 each) to go with them. What a classic diner! I search for chocolate malt on Yelp and find this place is on my way to Medford. The place is super clean as was the restroom. I was greeted upon entering. I ordered everything separately and the young lady taking my order put it all in a combo for me. The half pound burger with cheddar, pickles and mustard only, onion rings and a large (32 ounce) chocolate malt. The burger is perfect! Pattie grilled just right, bun is fresh, the cheddar is sandwiched between the patties and pickles have a nice dill flavor. Wow! This is amazing. The onion rings are smooth battered, cooked through and taste fantastic. Of course I'm really here for the malt. And it is off the charts. A rich malt flavor and strong chocolate presence as well. For the high reviews and long drive thru lines I've seen, this place is quite disappointing. Almost positive all the food is just frozen stuff they stick in the fryer, and then proceed to overcook. Greasiest corn dog I think I've ever had in my life. The onion rings had so much breading you couldn't taste the onion, just deep fried breading. Burger was mediocre I guess. Prices were high, considering the low quality. The milkshake was good, very thick and lots of flavors to choose. And service was quick. So one star for those things. Pretty dated and dingy inside. The one tiny bathroom was gross, to say the absolute least. In my opinion, if you're looking for anything more than a milkshake, look elsewhere. Instead of saying what I didn't want on the burger, I listed the toppings I did want, it threw them for a loop. Such an awkward interaction. My food was ready fairly quick. The burger patties were overcooked. They were dry and fairly tasteless. There was a good amount of lettuce, but it was the heel, so I pulled most of it out. The French fries were delicious! Boy I tell you what, this little drive in is full of surprises. It's a charming little drive in with both indoor and outdoor seating. This team takes pride in what they do. From keeping things clean to making very delicious food. Today we had the double cheeseburger combo with fries and the grilled ham and cheese combo with fries. Everything came out hot and fresh and full of flavor. We even splurged on the onion rings. They were home made and delicious. This eatery even has a speedy drive thru. What really won us over if how this group, dare I even say family really turned out the service. We have driven by this busy little place for years and finally went for an old fashioned date last Friday. Service was efficient and fast and the booth was clean and comfy. We were out on a Saturday and needed to grab a bite. This is not where we intended to go but it was open when our other place fell through. It was not too busy and our order was taken and filled quickly. They have set combos that cannot be altered. We wanted to try the onion rings and had to order separately. Order was severed quickly - good tasting burger but lots of catsup and not the diced raw onions requested. Fries were tasty and onion rings were also good - just a little overdone. I was in the area and decided to check out Don & Jo's Drive-In after seeing it on TikTok. My husband, my grandma, and I all got burgers, fries, and sodas, and I grabbed a milkshake. It is a very simple menu of combos of a drink and fries with choice of cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, chicken burger, fish burger, and ham & Cheese sandwich. They have a few other things like onion rings, milkshakes, and chicken tenders, but that's about it. All said, if you show up expecting a decent classic burger, then you will be satisfied with your food. I do suggest adding bacon to your burger as it's well fried. To be fair... the fries could be crispier. The "drive-in" is more of a drive thru that doesn't have an order box, but rather you order when you get to the window and wait for them to prepare it. Unless, of course, they get a long line, then they will send a worker out to collect your order and payment to move things along.
