Chicken chimichurri bowl with black beans, rice & the 'plantains'
    Susan C.

We stopped in here based on Yelp for food and beer. Oops--brewery is long gone! No beer for you! Soft drinks only. Shared a bowl and side of the plantains. Very, very disappointing. The plantains are like stewed apples. They're a greasy, wet mess, no slight firmness at all. We have eaten from a food truck in Michigan that does Arepas, and they are far superior & their plantains are perfection too. Your food here comes in styrofoam throw away containers. The interior of the restaurant is very cute but the food does not live up. Disappointing experience.

Not sure why it took me so many years to try this place out, but I'm glad I finally did. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Lancaster PA. Tons of flavor and a very clean meal option in my opinion. I've tried both the truck and the brick and mortar, no difference at all. Both are equally good and highly recommend trying either one.

The food is DELICIOUS! I have never had anything not full of flavor from this restaurant. The dining area is bright and welcoming, the staff are very kind and overall just a wonderful addition to the downtown area. Do not sleep on getting food from Chellas!

My husband and I were glad to see this restaurant open on a snowy night! I ordered the vegetarian arepa since I was craving plantains. The food came out pretty quickly. The arepa came with black beans, sweet plantains, cotija cheese and avocado. The flavor was really good however it was stuffed and hard to eat. Hard to get everything all in one bite; it felt like I was mostly eating one ingredient at a time. I really loved the yuca fries and the chimichurri and aioli sauces it came with. I would definitely come back and try one of their rice bowls!

I read SO MUCH about Chellas food truck, that we HAD to try the 'brick and mortar' location when we were in the area! Walking in, the volume of the music was SO LOUD we had to shout to each other in order to hear ANYTHING. It was super busy and the seating was uncomfortable, so we knew it would be a 'to go' order. There was a passionfruit mousse advertised, but it had already been sold out by the time we got there along with several other items. Awww RATS! I feel that the 'sauces' are the flavor-stars of the show! The chimichurri sauce is very herby and flavorful! My Chicken Arepa (on lifting it up) had a tablespoon or so of oil underneath it. . . uh oh. . . not good. I know different cooks can yield different results but I would choose the 'truck' location if I'm back this way again.

I've been to the food truck location before, but this time decided to try the location on Queen. You can order on the kiosk or at the counter. There are many different arepa choices, bowls, sides, etc. Everything can be customized to your preferences. My husband ordered the pernil arepa and I ordered the vegetable saltado with a fried egg, pickled onions, and plantains added. Everything was fantastic!!! Tons of flavor and the portions are generous. Cute decor inside. Both bar style seating and high top tables are available. Service was quick. The house made juice drinks are also incredible. I cannot recommend this place enough.

The brick and motor of the famous chellas food that was rated so high on yelp top 100 was pretty decent. The food came out pretty fast once you order via kiosk. I wish the portion for the meat was a bit more to match the rice and beans in the bowl. The yuca fries were amazing as always though. The store kept the original layout from how cabalar left it. The bathroom keys were "missing" from the usual spot so you need to ask the worker for it. Food is good; worth trying if you're in the area

Closer to a 4.5 then a 5 for me but I will round up! The food was very flavorful and the online ordering was quick/easy. We liked the variety of options on the menu. We ordered the vegetarian bowl and the chicken arepa. Both had intense flavors and came with excellent side sauces. We ordered the Brussel sprouts on the side and they were fantastic! We also ordered a side of Yuca fries. Rather than an actual side dish of fries we received a total of 3 fries on top of the bowl. I understand we ordered a small side but please do better than 3 fries (see photo). Otherwise, this would have been a perfect meal!

Visited a few months back and loved it so much that we decided to visit again. Not sure if our memory falsely inflated how good the food was, but it didn't live up to our own hype. Don't get me wrong. Food is still good and worth giving a shot, but seasoning did not pack the same punch this time that it did last time. Maybe too little salt, too little vinegar... not sure. Still worth checking out, maybe it was just an off day.

Incredible food! We discovered Chella's from soliciting their food truck at Longs Park dinner series. Delicioso!

The family operated restaurant has some great authentic dishes and the flavors are spot on. The staff is super friendly and they speak Spanish. I had the Shredded beef rice bowl with beans and sweat plantains. They asked me if I wanted cheese on my dish, but because I'm Puerto Rican and you never put cheese on Rice and Beans I said no thanks. But I will say that as a Latino this place took me home in a bowl. The beans were just like my wife makes, accept it's a different bean. The shredded beef had some much of that hispanic flavor I love so much. The beef was super tender and the plantains were fried to perfection. Now I know this is an Arepa bar and I should have had an Arepa but I am not a fan of Arepa's. It's a texture thing for me, but I love the items that go inside of them. As for my co-worker, He had two Arepas and a sugarcane lemonade drink and a cheese stick. He loved every bite! So Arepas are a must buy here along with a rice bowl like I had. Side note: you got to try their sauces! Their hot sauce is called Picante and is made with Habanero peppers. Look out for that one it's super hot! The garlic Sauce and the cilantro sauce taste great but the colors will confuse you. I bet when you see the sauces you'll guess the wrong color with the flavor. So to end this long review, I say yes you should stop by the place and have a meal. It's small and there is only one table so you might want to get your order to go.

I didn't count the tables, but maybe you can seat about 20, and there's a table in the middle that I saw a bunch of folks standing around. Connect Four and some other games were on there. It has been a long time since I last had them, and I was excited for my friend to try them. We each got an arepa, and we split tequenos and chicken empanadas... Yes, we were hungry lol. The chicken salad arepa I was as good as I remembered, and I got a glass of white wine that complimented it perfectly. It was my first time having their tequenos, and they were nice and cheesy. I'd take those over mozzarella sticks for real. There was only one woman working, and she was efficient in handling orders. I would come back just to hang out... I also took home frozen tequeños and made them for the Super Bowl... so good and now officially my go-to party snack. Service was excellent, super fast, and the girl at the counter was so sweet and really knew the menu. We had to get an early reservation as they were fully booked at dinner time. The food was just okay: the appetizer with the plantain and fried calamari was okay, it lacked a little bit of dimension and was too acid forward (needed more salt to balance it). The main was the "olleta" which is a vegetarian meal; it wasn't exactly memorable. It has an incredible amount of olives and capers and not enough tofu/plaintain/mushrooms. It was also very acid forward and lacked layers/balance to the flavor. Lastly, we tried two desserts: the flan (I believe it was called quesillo) and the chocolate one. I LOVED the flan with the foam on top, and the chocolate one was towards the bitter side (which was pretty good) but I wouldn't get it again. The desserts were very overpriced for the size of it.
