I like to look around this place when I visit Petaluma. I've bought some things too. A lot of high end pieces but every so often you can find something you might want. No one greeted us today or paid us any attention at all but I don't mind looking at things in peace do it was ok. They definitely have some interesting and beautiful antiques. read more

I have been shopping at Chelsea Antiques for many years since the late 90s. The collections are, not only fascinating but inspiring. I rarely have walked out the door without a treasure or several to carry home. Whenever I return to the Bay Area and Petaluma, I always make a stop here before heading home to Oregon. read more

This shop felt huge. My friend and I spent maybe an hour browsing every room and nook and cranny. I found the variety of the vintage and antique items to be really nice, and the prices seemed fair. I was greeted when we came in, and got polite acknowledgement when I was browsing near the front desk. I had no problems with the staff. Ultimately we didn't end up buying anything, but we really enjoyed the visit. read more

I do like this place and I've bought some big pieces here ( actually, My Mother bought me some lovely furniture here). Prices are a bit above average but they're the real deal and often from Europe or who knows but not your typical California shabby garbage. I've never interacted with the owner other than to purchase but I like being left alone when I shop. Definitely go if you're Petaluma. read more

They have really interesting finds, and frankly, I thought the pricing wasn't too bad. I meandered for at least 15 minutes up and down and throughout. But ultimately I will echo many other reviewers...absolutely no interaction from the two gentleman. A begrudging hello after I greeted them, and then many times of passing by them with no further eye contact or asking me if I would like further help. While upstairs there were some really interesting items I wanted to query further about, but I just couldn't bring myself to do so, given the chilly reception. I don't take it personally, but it definitely likely quelled a purchase and any future return visit. Ah well...went across the street where the reception was entirely different and found fantastic things to bring home with me. read more

A truly great antique shop with a large variety of goods. However, the incredibly rude staff ruins the experience.

This is one of the two antique stores I make a point to visit any trip to Petaluma. They carry a wide range of items, decor, furnishings, etc. from several vendors. I have admired mirrors and art which have since sold as well as vintage lawn statuary. All items are displayed stylishly and easy to navigate. It's clean and well curated. I'd say the selections are great and the prices are fair. Like I said, I make a point to peek in any visit. read more

OWNER, PAT SCREAMED AT ME TO "GET OUT OF HIS STORE" multiple times. Outrageous! I am a 30 year client, a senior female citizen, and a collector of fine antiques. I bought an antique bed from the shop. The bed fell apart, was missing parts, needed a custom mattress. Dealer description never included all of the "as is" commentary. I ended up taking the bed back. Owner defended the new dealer, never acknowledged my concerns, never acknowledged my loyalty over the years to his shop, screamed at me in his shop to, "GET OUT" when I was trying to explain my position...and, what was my crime? Ladies and others be careful with dealing with Pat, who has a temper that is out of control. *To be noted, I paid a finish carpenter an extra $200 to try and renovate the bed only to find out then that a custom made mattress was needed. read more

I was in the area and my adult son was with me and we stopped by here just to look but we will be back. They had very high quality antiques (solid chestnut and cherry) for very reasonable prices, there was a cherry counter height table for less than 1/2 of quotes I have seen elsewhere, we are creating a small in-law unit that I would have loved to have purchased it for but I don't have any storage so have to wait a few months but will be back when I am ready and am certain I will purchase a few items from them. Ahhhh - some things never change. Went in last week; basically looked at all the people behind the counter (were there 3? 4??) and again, not ONE said hello or acknowledged me in ANY way. Its almost funny to me. Browsed the store; as usual they have some great items. Yes, they are definitely NOT cheap, you will NOT find a deal here, but I don't expect to. I visited Petaluma for the first time yesterday and came across this charming store. It is a large store with 2 levels and several dealers. The antiques feel somewhat European in nature, and they are organized well and not cluttered. I found so many unique treasures and beautiful pieces made from reclaimed wood. I went home with a couple items, but I could have done much more damage if I weren't traveling. I can't wait to go back!! read more

I have shopped here for years. The organization, and wide variety of unique finds, and classic pieces, keeps me coming back regularly. I am a decorator, and truly appreciate this great resource, which happily works with the trade. The nay sayers regarding service likely don't understand that this is a cooperative of dealers, and they comprise the staff on a rotating schedule. They are not sales people per se. Its not a typical retail sales format, and yes, being greeted is a simple courtesy which should be followed up with, "Let me know if you have any questions." You can always engage them, and they are all knowledgable and very willing to help. And of course, you can find things at flea markets, estate sales, etc. if you're a savvy bargain hunter. But, Chelsea Antiques is a one stop, see it all, treasure gathering place, and they help you load your car. read more

Wow, I have never been to a store where not one, but all three of the sales staff are friendly and helpful! Chelsea Antiques has it going on, they want you to shop and are not snotty like many other stores of its kind. It has a great mix of antiques, modern and vintage finds for all tastes. Not only do they hold items for 24 hours, but they have a 30 day lay-a-way. This was my second time to the store and I left with two items, my friend with one. Today was my second time there. It is my favorite antique store in the SF Bay Area. They have very classy yet unpretentious items ranging from old signs to paintings to furniture to lighting to some highly beautiful Asian furniture and baskets, with all sorts of great things in between. I have spent a LOT of time in antique stores around Sonoma County, and this one is by FAR my favorite. Sometimes, when I have time, I just go in and walk around, because it really is eye candy. Most antique stores have a cluttered overwhelming feeling and you can't wait to get out of them once you've purchased whatever you found. Quite the opposite at Chelsea Antiques. I am constantly surprised by their pieces and the affordability of most of them. Also, I appreciate that the staff is so willing to negotiate prices. I have purchased TOO many things to number from this store: from bookshelves to antique instruments to lamps. They always have excellent items and a very helpful staff! read more

This is by far the best vintage store I have ever been in, I wanted everything! Ok well maybe not everything, but I found at least 4 items I would love to have. I will say the pricing is pretty steep, but they will come down a little on price if you ask. I can't wait to go back to this incredible store, worth the trip to Petaluma. read more

Petaluma is a great place for anyone who loves antiques. This place isn't particularly impressive, but it's still worth a look. Thing's are pretty well organized, which is a nice change, even if you prefer more of a "clusters-everywhere-old-smell-great-shop" sort of thing. read more

No piece of furniture, wonderful as i may be, is worth your health or your life! I bought the coolest looking large armoire from Chelsea but the center, 8 ft mirrored door (out on repair when I saw the item) representing about 250 lbs of force, fell on my head and gave me a concussion and neck and spine problems for over a year. The chards of glass from the broken mirror barely missed the veins in my neck and wrist! I could have easily been killed. Instead of handling the cost of repair, my scans and medical care, their manager responded in an unempathetic and "not my problem: way"....blaming everyone else. At first, they blamed the mover, Country Moves, whom they had setup on my behalf and supposedly trained on how to put the piece together properly. (the door fell off onto me because it was put together wrong). Then, once they got their insurance involved, they claimed i picked the mover myself (i live in the city and had no idea who to use ... Country Moves was picked by Chelsea employees, not me!) This matter is still unresolved. I must add that the women who work in the store are wonderful, but the owner/manager for insurance obviously lacks integrity. there are tons of good antique stores in Sonoma county (try vintage home, or the cool french store in healdsburg)...go elsewhere! read more
