The staff are welcoming and not bougie. Down to earth. As you move through the building, the items are thoughtfully and beautifully displayed. Be sure not to miss out the outdoor space. This is a wonderful shop...full of interesting salvaged items....do go look in the back lot...just amazing. I have not seen items in the size and scale they have here anywhere else. Downside...the prices are very high. I was in love with a rusted , old piece of black fence...1.5' x 2.5'...it was $120! Perhaps they give discounts to designers?! Is it still a knick knack if it's 18 feet tall? I think what attracted me at first was the English Bulldog flopped outside in the sun, lying there, just exuding laziness. Her name is Uma. I watched her being still for a bit and then noticed the store behind her. I am generally not a fan of antique stores, as they are usually full of junk you wouldn't buy at a garage sale, but this place was pretty cool. Who needs an 18-foot iron clock face salvaged from a factory? Or a set of three gigantic heads, replicas of the David of Michelangelo? Or maybe a large tin lion from Belgium? I don't. Nobody does, I guess. But it'd be pretty cool to have a space big enough to decorate with some of the pieces here (I'm thinking the clock face for you Roy H.). Pots, some cool books, neat furniture, vases, spice pods, etc. all contribute to making this a pretty unique space. Maybe just because of its scale, but still... Inside the Cornerstone Gardens Compound, this store occupies a large barn and a yard and is just a great place to browse. Some items are actually reasonably priced, too. read more

Forget buying this stuff to fit in my tiny Nob Hill apartment... I'm moving in! This place is unbelievably amazing and gorgeous and when the Boyfriend and I bought a petrified wood soap dish we both cooed as the saleswoman wrapped it up and put it in a bag made out of a newspaper from some exotic Asian country. I made a solemn vow that when I make my second million, I'm going to spend every dime here. I'm going to splurge on pendant lights and distressed turquoise chairs and wooden tables fit for a King and random street signs and a miniature polkadot teacups that will be displayed on a window sill. How awesome would it be to have the owner's job of traveling around the world and bargaining for fantastic pieces of furniture and decorative accessories? This is definitely on my top ten career paths; somewhere between human rights activist and travel guide. read more

Hands down the best place to find really amazing salvage from all over the US and Europe. Some of the best designers in the country use this hidden treasure to find one of a kind gem. Stone fountains, amazing wrought iron, stone statues, wood doors and on and on. The owner is often on the road finding and collecting treasures from around the world, but you can often find him walking the space organizing and showing off latest finds. An announcement sign that once belonged to a Presbyterian church? Stained glass windows? Monumental pavement from Philadelphia? Burmese religious statues? And, lately, they have an assortment of... stone phalluses. Because who knows when you'll need 'em to impress house guests. Artefact has glorious randomness. The people there are helpful. UNREAL - Surreal mix of strange, cool, eclectic and downright great items, tables, slabs of stone, a bathtub cut in a rough boulder etc. We bought a thing for plants in the atrium and think we got a halfway reasonable deal on it, it turns out the thing will not fit in the bentley, S**** so having them ship it to Los Angeles this morning. Dealt with Dave the owner, outstanding guy with a fine wit and a good taste. Lately it seems everybody and their brother is opening "american picker" stores, this one is a bit older and unlike the ones in Los Angeles, its got some real lovely stuff, lots of it, and prices you can actually imagine paying. Highly recommended if you want something out of the ordinary for your place. read more

They always have the coolest finds, like ancient statues, rustic signs, large animal skulls, and antique architectural pieces. I love stopping in here and drooling over all of the beautiful furniture and accent pieces. Great mix of unique, bizarre, and stunning objects. A standout about items here is how their used in examples that blend in so well, you often overlook that the item doubling as a display holder is actually for sale. The name says it all. The store is filled with random yet tasteful salvaged items, from rocks to vintage lighting to old clocks. The store manager was helpful and super laid back. He had an old little doggy following him around--she didn't seem to like Basil so much. I left lugging a rock carved out to be a planter and a couple of old antique watch faces for a potential art project. What a way to spend money on nearly useless (but very unique) things! read more

This place is one of a kind. There are plenty of accessories for mere mortals and never walk out empty handed. However, looking at the big stuff conjures dreams of having a villa in Tuscany or a wine estate in Sonoma. Axel, the bucket loving bulldog has become a celebrity. Shopping here is a treat. read more

I go into fantasy mode in places like this. Surely, I would be those antique Spanish doors for my country estate and the french bistro table would look great on my deck, etc., etc. But you don't have to stick to fantasy, there are plenty of other things to buy that will fit in your SF apartment like hand soap, candles, bowls, etc. My only beef is that I missed the bulldog who actually has some products of her own (biscuits and t-shirts). read more

Its a great place if you are looking to furnish/decorate your wine country home in a unique, eclectic way. None of it was really my style though, and its very pricey! Recently, I visited this shop. Although, I was looking forward to my visit and planned to make a rather large purchase, I ended up leaving. The owner was extremely rude and didn't seem interested in welcoming me! Perhaps, it was due to the fact I was dressed down ( in exercise clothing) . The owner made some rude comments and ignored me, most likely assuming I had no money. How unfortunate to be "such a fool"! He must have enough customers and not care about future additions. This behavior will catch up to him in so many ways. I'm encouraging others to shop elsewhere.... read more
