I see now that the reason they were looking sparse before is that they were preparing to build a cute nook in the center of the ground floor section. Make sure you are wearing the latest couture or boho chic attire, because otherwise you will be startled at every corner of the store by an employee with a "Hello!". Instead of profiling your customers might I suggest you install surveillance cameras it might help you be more discreet. My mom and I stopped by there to kill time before meeting friends for dinner. Wonderful store! The place is easy to browse and the items are wonderful. I wanted to take them all home. Michelle and her staff were so nice and helpful. I will come here whenever I'm in Petaluma. Michelle was recently featured in a magazine which showed off her personal decorating style. She's a really sweet person and fun to talk to. I'm definitely going back there to decorate my new home. read more

This was one of our last stops at the end of a very long day. The shop was well thought out, lots of variety in collectibles, vintage and antiques, and the inventory was quality. Next trip I will take more time to smell the roses and maybe bring a girlfriend or my dil so I can really take my time and peruse the goods! I stumbled upon this shop and walked in, prepared to be enchanted. And I was -- by the merchandise. But as others have mentioned in their reviews, the staff is unfriendly, to say the least. It was kind of shocking, in fact, particularly after visiting other shops on the street and encountering nothing but polite and helpful people. Perhaps part of it is based on their response to my exclamation when I first walked in: "Oh I am so glad I found this place!" One of the snotty and disinterested staffers replied: "We're the most popular antiques store in town. Everybody knows about us." I guess to them that means they don't need any more customers. I wonder who owns this place? Considering the many comments about snotty salespeople, it must be one of them -- or they all would have been fired. read more

Ok, so we were really enjoying this store~ we really were. They have a great selection of shabby chic items and putting together a cottage look would be very simple by shopping here. However... I was BLOWN AWAY by the behavior of an extremely rude saleswoman. We simply asked if they were negotiable on the price of an item (a routine request in an antique store) and you would have thought we had asked her to come to our house and scrub our toilets by her reaction. She was abrupt, abrasive, and downright hostile. I honestly didn't even know what to say because it wasn't as if we were doing something that isn't commonplace in the antique world. Yikes! You know, I'm ok if they don't negotiate on prices, but a simple "oh, I'm sorry, but we don't negotiate" with a smile added on would have been just fine. Not hard at all to do if you have good customer service skills. There was a reproduction iron rabbit that they had upstairs that I was considering buying but after that, I didn't want to go back in. Needless to say, I purchased the same rabbit from a store a few doors down. Maybe this woman was having a bad day but her hostility will keep me from entering that store again. Sorry, I usually don't like to do this but NO ONE deserves what we got (just for asking a question!) I won't be back. Now, I'm sure there are some of you out there that just think I have an axe to grind, but I don't. The above complaint really did happen and it was completely unexpected and not ok. read more

The customer service here is very poorly and I will never go back to this place. There was a dark hard lady and a gray hair lady chatting it up behind the counter. Not once did they acknowledge me. I walked back several times and the dark hard lady in her mid forties, never said hello, do you need any help, or anything in the matter. There were several things that I wanted to buy, but I decided why waste my money at this store when I got treated so rudely. I had lots of money to buy a lot of the items at this store, but I rather spend my money elsewhere. The antique were reasonable priced, but that the only thing this entire store has going for it. Also I came from out of town and Petaluma is known for their poor customer service. I went into about a dozen stores and only got greeted twice. Maybe this town needs a customer seminar. read more

Quite a cute antique store. I saw these incredibly beautiful flower cards with instructions for how to use them like a complicated game of Fish, vintage from Austria. You will find antique quilts and teacups and old plastic horses. Aprons. Plates. Baskets of old photographs. Very fun. read more

What an intriguing antique shop! Lots of tiny items in superb condition compete for your attention. Walking through the store is like taking a trip back to the past, with toys and knick-knacks from the late forties all the way back to the turn of the century and before. Prices are affordable and the co-op staff/owners are a delightful crew. I shall return soon for gift shopping as well as to treat myself to one of the many must-have items. read more

Quaint little town of Petaluma, who would have known?? My parents would have loved it here with a row of antique stores. It's a fun place to look around with cute decor set ups and cottage feel to the place. The prices are a bit steep but I was able find a couple of not so expensive pieces for the kitchen. Every time I pass this place I talk myself out of it for the reason that I'd probably break the bank every time I walk through the door. However, there are times I cannot resist and I treat myself, but I am always satisfied with my purchases and feel good for supporting local business. I couldn't help myself today when I spotted some antique floral supplies I had to drag my unwilling but patient sister in to take a look. I thought I was the luckiest girl, I found loads of terrific finds, but was taken aback by the comments of the ladies who work there. I made a purchase, and spotted one last item I asked if I could pick up later; it was fragile and I had to go the bookstore. The lady made a comment about how much money and I was spending-and I was sheepish. Have to say my last and final experience with this place left me really disappointed. As a local, I like to have a wander thru such shops during the week to bypass the weekend traffic. I was clamoring thru their stuff and happened upon a great item that I needed 24 hours to go home and measure. They took my name and number - said they would hold and I would give a call the next morning. When I called back to say I wanted to come down and pay for the item they had difficulty locating the screen and would have to call me back. They did call back with a blase' message that the item had been sold. Well what was the point of saying you would honor the 24 hour hold policy if you really won't? read more

I like this quaint antiques/collectibles store and almost always find something to buy. The booths offer everything from vintage buttons to shabby chic furniture to jewelry to handmade iron garden art. Several years ago I found an incredible antique cherry wood quilt frame in working order and the price was really good. This place is a joke. As of today, we will never return. First of all to find anything of quality, you have to search - most of the items are junk. Secondly, when you do find something, it's most often ridiculously priced. (For furniture the best merchandise is upstairs toward the front of the store.) But worst of all (and the reason we will never go back) are the snotty, unfriendly, unhelpful women who work there. These women are dealers. There must be some type of agreement that to have a space there you have to work there for a certain number of hours. Awful. read more

I live in San Diego and visit the Bay area often. One of my hobbies is restoring unique items and reselling them. One of my favorite stops is Summer Cottage. When I purchase an item to restore, I have to get it below retail in order to make a profit. Summer Cottage always considers my offers. Customer service is fantastic and they are very creative. I've never had an issue relating to customer service so I was surprised when I read several reviews that were "negative". Some people are never happy unless they're complaining about someone or something. These people need to fight a battle worth fighting and realize that they might be impacting someone's income.Great job Summer Cottage, keep it up, I'll be back read more
