Get your cabinet estimate before mentioning your builder. They're more interested in protecting the builder making money on your cabinet purchase, via builder, than giving the consumer a good buy. At least this was our experience in 2019, wouldn't even quote us knowing the builder had been in. read more

Purchased a higher end installed storm door four years ago. All of a sudden the built in closer stopped working and the door either violently slammed shut or didn't close at all. Chelsea Lumber service man came out tried making adjustment, but was clearly broken. He said he needed to report back to shop. Within two weeks, Chelsea Lumber had contacted the manufacturer, received word that was a design flaw that now had redesigned replacement, and was back at our house installing the replacement closer....no charge. BEWARE OF CHELSEA LUMBER We contracted Chelsea Lumber to build a new deck, same size as our existing deck. 1. On the first day of the work, they demanded another $600 for their contractors permit which was already included in their total price of $25k. To avoid work stoppage I paid. I have proof. BAD. 2. They damaged my lawn using their heavy equipment Bobcat with Tank Treads, running front to back to front of yard, rotating the machine, for two weeks plus. I have photos, videos. BAD. 3. They promised to repair the lawn when the job was done but their "repair" was to dump grass seed over top on the damaged ground. A guy walked the lawn for a couple of minutes, throwing grass seed around. I have photos. Ridiculous! 4. They built the new deck SMALLER than the original deck. Breach of contract. I have photos with tape measure, before and after. BAD. What a nightmare! Save yourself from these people. BEWARE of CHELSEA LUMBER! read more

They sold me every stick of wood in my house 13 years ago, and since then I have used them many times for deliveries of dimensional lumber and fancy hardwood-faced plywood. I have always had excellent service, and very good quality product. I asked them one time why they can't sell me any 2x4s that have that interesting corkscrew twist to them like I can get sometimes at Lowe's. I guess you need a special kiln to do that. read more

Apparently, when you buy NEW exterior doors, they don't reinstall your storm dorms. I find that to be total BS especially when we BOUGHT the storm doors and had THEM install it just a few years ago!! I told them when getting the quote about reinstalling the storm doors that THEY put them in a few years ago and there response was: "We can replace the doors and install new storm doors but we would not be re-installing your existing storm doors." **My mom had an exterior door installed and the company that did her door took out her old storm door and reinstalled it. Her storm door was 10+ years old. So, don't tell me you can't do it! UPDATE: 3/1/19- Had Sun Home Improvement come out today and give me a quote and his exact words were" do you want to keep the storm doors". I said yes! I told him what Chelsea lumber said and he said that was WRONG!! I will NEVER come here or order anything from them ever again!! They just want you to buy more product when you don't need it!! read more

I'm not clear on why the name changed, but Bridgewater Lumber in Saline is still part of Chelsea Lumber Company. Bridgewater Lumber is like a scaled-down version of Lowe's or Home Depot, and one of their locations is right here in downtown Saline. You'll get a lot more attention than you would at the big box stores, and they still have all the essential stuff. True to their name, they're heavy on the lumber side of things, but they also have kitchen and bath fixtures ... doors and windows and siding ... etc. to improve your home, which is the main point, I guess. Over the years I have had duplicate keys made, paint color matching, and they even arranged for the work crew that came and built our barn for us. If you need a barn or other major home remodel, they have a design department that will sit down with you to develop your idea into actual drawings and material lists, and help you find a contractor. We were very satisfied with the work crew that built our barn for us at this house, and our last. Yes, we have had two barns built with help from these guys, and they even have a class to teach you how to assemble your own pole barn with a materials kit that they make up for you and deliver to your site. But since it's a lot of work, and it takes a lot of hands to raise those trusses, it might be best to let the experts handle it. read more

This is specifically for Bryon Birch at the Chelsea location---he came to measure windows for an estimate for replacement windows. He was so honest that he said to contact my original window replacement company to do the replacement as they were under warranty (though my current windows are poor quality). He said that it is his job to provide information, not to push a sale, and that having repeat customers is what is important, quality over quantity. It is rare to find someone of integrity like this! My only complaint is that they could not replace my windows due to the building height, or else I would have gone with them, no question. read more

Have to say, I'm not impressed. Went in to buy a new picture window and 2.5 weeks later I still do not have my estimate that was promised on 7-5-19. Mike kemp stood me up for my appt to measure (he forgot!)and pretty much blew me off when I called 3 days later asking about the estimate. Why would I hire this Co. to work on my home when they don't respect me or my time? I guess spending $3000 to 4000 isn't enough to warrant any kind of customer service. I went to Mans Lumber in Canton and had a wonderful experience. Bought my new window from them the same day they came out to measure. They gave me my estimate 2 hours later and came back out that same day to go over everything and re-measure for accuracy. read more

I recently had a shingles replaced as well as 27 under boards due to a mold issue. The crew completed all the work in one day and it was 93 degrees that day. The cleanup was top notch and I couldn't have asked for anything else. I was in a time crunch for was in the process of moving and they came in with the best price with top notch work. About 10 years ago, I contracted Chelsea Lumber to construct a pole barn. Everything was built as quoted, on-time and on-budget. So when I needed another barn constructed, I called Chelsea Lumber (Bridgewater location) for a quote and signed on in early April, with the assurance that work would be finished by June. It's now August, and they're still working on the structure. The sub-contractors they used to build the structure seemed to not know some really basic construction concepts like how to properly lay roofing or cut sheet metal correctly the first time. The results have been highly disappointing . . . . with poor quality workmanship being the most disturbing. I'd love to be able to recommend a local business, but unfortunately, Chelsea Lumber (Bridgewater) gets two thumbs way down. read more

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. I needed the fixed door wall panel replaced after a breakin the last week in September. After patching the opening with plywood my contractor and I discussed the options of replacing the whole door wall or just the panel. The order for a panel was placed at Chelsea Lumber with a $500 deposit the middle of October. The November bank statement showed the deposit had been processed. A five week window was given for delivery. After a few calls on the status of the order with excuses that the delay was due to it being a special order, my contractor visited the store December 16th. He was given the runaround with more excuses. My panel arrived February 10th and installed on the 11th. The invoice showed that the panel wasn't ordered till DEC 16. My wife met with the manager of CL earlier this month questioning why the delivery was taking so long. She was given many excuses but no apology for their failure in ordering the panel back in October.
