So a lovely incident brought me to Chen's Skincare and Spa. I'm a guy and I largely neglected my skincare routine as some guys are wont to do. I met up with my best girlfriend and she asked why I had hair on my forehead... And I laughed and said, my love, those are blackheads! So I knew I had a problem, and I wanted to support a local business that would help me find the resolution for that problem. That is how I came across Chen's Skincare and Spa! I loved that I was able to book an appointment online through their website which was clean and easily navigable. They only took one person per hour in the spa which was comforting giving that we are living in times of plague and pestilence. I was texted to confirm and showed up the next day, a babe in the woods, ready for my first facial/microderm treatment! My technician was Hersy and she was very polite and very understanding! She made me feel welcomed after I revealed that this was new for me as a guy who admittedly didn't know as much about skincare as perhaps I should have known! She explained everything she was doing, what the effects were, and she even made suggestions on how I could better take care of my skin. It has been three days since my Gentleman's facial and microdermabrasion treatment and I have never seen my skin glow quite like it does now! Its wonderful and I've received so many compliments! I have fewer blackheads and my skin just feels incredible! I am so glad I came to Chen's and fully intend to return to maintain a proper adult's skin care regiment! HORRIBLE, FILTHY AND OVERPRICED. GAVE ME CONJUNCTIVITIS. NOT A LICENSED ESTHETICIAN. DANGEROUS!!! CALLING DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH Had a full set of lashes done by Hersy who is the owner of the business and the only worker (she has no staff). Upon entering the room, her equipment (IPL, microdermabrasion) is covered in dirt, lash containers left open with dust on them. She use CAGE lashes which I looked on Amazon...these are not mink lashes..they are synthetic! After Hersy finished, I looked at my lashes and I looked like a vegas showgirl!!! Completely unnatural. She also upcharged me for a "glam set" which I never asked for. $170!! I went home, and my eye became increasingly red and progressed to conjunctivitis. Ended up going to urgent care to get a prescription the next morning. I went to another lash location about 5 mins away from Hersy's..a beautiful, clean and lush spa. They were able to fix Hersy's terrible work and they told me she put lash glue directly on my lashes which will cause my natural lashes to fall put. Hersy does not know how to "style" lashes..she merely puts them in without consideration for how they look on your face. She is also doing facials and chemical peels and I only see a certificate and not an aestheticians license! Stay away from this filthy place. read more

I bought a deal from Groupon on a facial & when I got there I chose their Signature Facial. The place is in a good location, parking was easy to find. Inside is very cute. This is my first facial and I really enjoyed it!! It did not feel rushed and I enjoyed the massages I got for my arms, neck, and face. I believe the facial lasted about an hour. I had a great experience at Chen skin care today! It was my first time there and I was immediately at ease when I saw how knowledgeable and professional ms. Chen is regarding the skincare process. I had so many blackheads and needed so many extractions and she did all of them! If I could give no stars I would. This place was terrible. The offer on Groupon was a total scam because the lash set you get is barely visible on the eyes so I opted for a lash set for $160.00 and it looked exactly like the cheap one. My eyes looked nothing like the picture I initially showed her. The tech refused to fix or add more and proceeded to argue that it looked like the picture. It hasn't even been a week and they're already falling off, not to mention it was supposed to be individual lashes yet a three hair lash just fell out. Shady place with terrible service. I scooped up an awesome Groupon deal for a Aromatherapy massage which typically runs $70 and a Chen's signature facial: $90. Personally, I feel like I took a leap of faith, since I know nothing about aromatherapy but it was a good deal! The signature facial was refreshing: tingly cleanser, refreshing exfoliation using dermalogica, and for a lack of a better way of putting it, I had my face steamed (??) kinda like a humidifier would to open up the pores for light extraction. Color me impressed, the owner has magic fingers which were light to the face and minimal pain for extractions. What does all this equal for me? A relaxing facial where I doze off to mood music. The aromatherapy seemed to focus on full body sliding motions and kneading with thumbs (less painful than swedish) and scented oils. In other service opinions, I had to allot extra time to hunt for street parking and walk a few blocks to the pink awning day spa. I was surprised to walk into a multipurpose waiting area; imagine a waiting area decorated with accessories, make up, neck massage stool & a wall of nail polish. Definitely, a snug use of space. Same with the massage and facial areas. As day spa's go, it's a no-frills, 1 stop shop of services. Check out their website for additional services and don't forget to make an appointment. If you come here expecting cooling white noise music, water falls, chic cucumber water, you will leave disappointed. If you come expecting a solid facial, then jackpot! I agree with Nikki H.'s review. I bought the eyelash extension Groupon, however even the discount wasn't worth the product/service I received. I knew something was off as soon as the technician gave me some tissue with soapy water on it to remove my eye makeup....(no makeup remover pads anywhere ? What kind of spa is this??) This is not my first time getting extensions done, but this is the first time that I can feel the glue from the fakes and have lashes falling out as soon as I get home from my appointment....2 hours later !!! Considering that I followed the instructions to keep the area dry for 2 days (48 hours ??!? How do I wash my face properly !?!?!) and only used regular (not waterproof) mascara sparingly, these lashes are either VERY poor quality or the technician gluing them on needs to be re-educated. I shouldn't be feeling the sharpness of the glue, nor should I see another eyelash coming off every morning. My Groupon included a touchup after 2 weeks but I won't be returning to this overpriced "salon". I just want to get these off so I can get them redone at my old place. Also - come half hour early to find parking. It is near a college and in the Bronx, after all. read more

I have had two positive experience with this spa. Both facial were absolutely great. The lady that took care of me (assuming the owner) was excellent. People are hard on this place. If you need a great facial visit this place. The linens could've cleaner and that is the reason why I didn't go 5 stars. If cleaning the robes is a problem they should go with paper robes. went here with a groupon voucher of one facial last week. the experience was terrible, she was talking and trying to sell store's beauty products and service for first 20 mins while i was lying down on the bed with facial mask on. after i told her i am not interested in any regular peel or buying other service at this time, she literally put another facial mask on my face and left the room. there was no shoulder or neck or arm massage as the facial description in their website. I used a groupon for eyelash curling. The technician didn't explain the process so I didn't know what to expect, such as how long I would have to sit there waiting for the perm to be finished. But what is worse is my lower lash somehow got curled up with my lashes and they were all scattered in different directions. I love the idea of curled lashes but because she was very sloppy, I had to fix them every morning via brushing or curling some areas to try to make it look neat. On top of that, after I was done she was saying that I needed extensions. Well, not from you!! Don't bother going there. Find somewhere else that will care about how you look after. read more

There was a total lack of good spas in the Riverdale area in the past and that forced me to trek all the way to Manhattan or Westchester when I wanted a facial or massage. So when I saw a groupon deal for this place I excitedly scooped it up. My groupon deal was for a facial that I had the chance to use recently and I couldn't be happier that I did. While the place isn't your typical Manhattan style spa complete with zen atmosphere and candles everywhere, the rooms are clean, simple, and relaxing. My facial left my skin feeling amazing. The products felt nice on my skin and smelled refreshing. Surprisingly the extractions didn't hurt much. I've been to other spas where that part hurts terribly and I was happy to say that wasn't the case here. I will definitely be back for more services soon. read more

I purchased a groupon for eyelashes. I am a devoted Fabulash customer and use Wink from time to time. I have always been satisfied with both. I figured I would try Chen because of the groupon, as I was an Ebenezer customer before finding deals for Fabulash and Wink. WRONG MOVE! Not only was the application of the eyelashes very amateur (they were going in all different directions), it was not very relaxing. And I'm not sure but I think she was blowing on my eyelashes after she applied the extension. She had to continually brush them after she finished to get them to look presentable enough so I wouldnt notice that they were all over the place. Ohh, I definitely noticed by the next day. I had three that were facing down and irritating the #$% out of me. Now here's the kicker. The groupon stated that the lashes last for up to three months. I figured, "great three months". After the application and after receiving a card to return for the touch-up she tells me to return in two weeks. So I asked why and called the "three months" to her attention. She stated that they can last for up to three months if you come every two weeks. Of course they would last forever if one was to come every two weeks. I immediately called groupon. Groupon gave the merchant a chance to resolve the situation but she never called me. Honestly, what could she say. Her groupon ad said one thing and her mouth said another. I'm actually kinda happy they only lasted 3... almost 4 weeks. Now they are all gone and I can get them done over correctly. The location is not "spa like" but it is clean and quiet. Just not my cup of tea. I'll stick with the Ritz Carlton Spa in White Plains. read more

I've only had my lashes done one other time and was not thrilled with the result and the service after having paid full price. I impulsively decided to give the lash thing another go and decided to look on Groupon for a deal incase I ended up dissatisfied again. I am so happy that I found this place! The location is great (I found parking easily on the street), the spa is very clean and I love that I was seen in a private room (last place I went to had many beds in one space - felt like a factory). I had my lashes done by the owner - she took the time to give me a complete consultation even though I informed her that I had been through the process before. I expressed concern over the adhesive because I've had reactions to some lash glues when wearing falsies in the past - she offered the "sensitive" adhesive as an option but did inform me that it doesn't hold as long as the regular one which I appreciated and even suggested for me to take a Benadryl as a precaution after since I'm not sure what ingredient I have a reaction too. Hersy took her time with me, she paid very close attention to detail and provided me with great conversation during the process and thorough instructions for follow up care after. I love to go to the same place all the time as I do for my nails and religiously every 2weeks. So I called the place to make my appointment for this Saturday I said is a groupon for full set + retouch so I also take the appointment for the retouch... Everything was fine Than one hour after I received a call asking how I find the place, how do I hear about them! So my response was like I told you I find you on groupon obviously because I have a groupon! So from this they told me that the person is never there on Saturday!!!! SPA? This is anything but a spa. When I first walked into my room to get a facial the lady asked me to put on a towel wrap and lie down on the bed. I looked at the wrap and it just didn't come out of the wash. It was definitely used before, The bed didn't have a fresh sheet and towel. I told the girl that there was hair on the bed and the linens were used. She said "Oh it was from last night." I told her that they need to be changed. She quickly changed them . She did tell me what was included in the Groupon that I purchased. I must say that the facial was great and it was worth the $35 I paid. Horrible place to come to do Brazilian waxes. The service is absolutely horrible. The lady who did my wax barely interacted with me and was rough and impolite. Also, do not go here with any discounts from groupon because you will be receiving a horrible service. The discount from Groupon was a complete rip off and I ended up paying just about the same price for a Brazilian Wax. When it was finished, I looked down and still had visible hair after the wax that should have been taken care of. Very mediocre compared to my visit at the European Wax Center. DO NOT COME HERE!!! I used a groupon thinking it would be a good deal, but I was so wrong!!! They used masking tape to tape down my bottom lashes! The technician kept pulling on my eyelashes and didn't do a good job at all. It looked like she put on about 30 lashes on each eye and 80% fall off about 5 days later! I will only come here for a Brazilian. I have been coming here for two years now. The women who does my wax is very sweet, she is gentle and takes her time. I swear by this place and every time I come here I leave satisfied. I've gone to other places where they pour on the wax and rip it off in one strip - which is dreadfully painful.
