I can't say enough good things about my experience here. First off, this is my first Brazilian ever. Second I'm a baby when pain is involved. And before anyone thinks I'm exaggerating, I still cry when I get my blood drawn and only allow one person in my drs office to do so and my eyes tears profusely when I get my eyebrows threaded. Now back to the point. Ashley did my service and she was amazing. She explained everything she did/was going to do. We also just talked and she had me laughing. It didn't make it pain free.... This morning, I walked to my appointment and arrived on time. Upon entering, I was greeted and asked for a state ID. Unfortunately, I didn't have one because I lost mine recently during a vacation. I showed her my passport, which lists my place of birth as New York State. However, she said she couldn't accept it and needed something with my name and address. I was frustrated because I hadn't been informed on the phone when I made the appointment that a state ID was required. Despite mentioning it was my first visit and checking their website, which also didn't mention the need for a state ID, I wasn't aware of this requirement. I have visited this location several and had a great experience each time. The shop always appears clean and the staff friendly. The prices are a bit higher then other waxing places but they also double and are cleaner than most other waxing salons. I made sure to have a appointment each time and was seen immediately each time. My technician was always Shantal who was always friendly and prompt for every appointment. All waxing hurts in my opinion but the method they use does seem to lessen the torturous pain. The results are always smooth as well. This is one over several EWCs I've tried over the years. It is by far my favorite in NYC - very friendly staff and if you make an appointment they get you in on time. I have found the level of service pretty even, although as with anything else in life some people are more skilled at their jobs. All that said, Ebony at the Riverdale location is ah-maz-ing. This is the first time (in a while) that I haven't come home with an entire strip of missed hairs. With the serum, my Brazilian lasted a full three weeks before any regrowth began to appear. read more

My first time here since the spot I went to closed! As with a hairstylist, I stressed out deciding where to go to get my Brazilian. Based on the reviews, I decided to come to European Wax Center in Riverdale. Upon entering. I was greeted immediately by a personable and highly energetic front desk staff. The girls are very friendly but talk really LOUD especially about services to be received and payment options. Not kidding saw one woman cringe when she was asked about her lip treatment. It would be nice to have more of a calming spa feel when waiting to be seen which it does NOT have! I had made an appointment and was told they held it for 9 minutes if late. Interestingly, I arrived on time but was seen 15 minutes past my appointment time! No biggie for me but may be for others on a tight schedule. Now as for the tech and service received it was excellent. She made me feel relaxed considering it was a Brazilian. Absolutely, love the service and results. No pain or irritation. It was due to my wonderful experience with the tech - I believe she said her name is Stephanie- that I will be back. They also sell a yearly pass for different services that really are a bargain. As noted above, the only area of improvement is having a waiting area that is more relaxing and more discretion among the front desk staff when discussing payments and treatments. My daughter really loves this place because they are friendly, fast and professional. However, the last 2 times she's gotten her eye brows done, she gets an allergic reaction. I don't think it's a service or unsanitary issue with the establishment, just maybe the products they are using don't mesh well with her skin. Love the European Wax Center (EWC)! I first began visiting when I was living upstate and now, I'm so happy to have found one right in my area. What I love most about the EWC is the service and decor. Upon arrival, I was greeted and asked if I had an appointment. The waiting area is bright and airy with splashes of red throughout the decor. There's also a big glass window looking out into the street. In the corner of the room are an assortment of products for sale. I've never purchased products however, the waxer typically will review a few recommendations. When the waxer is ready for you, they come out and greet you, then lead you to the waxing room. I typically get a Brazilian done, I have also gotten my eyebrows done at EWC. But on this visit, I did just the Brazilian. My waxer, Kristina, was personable and put me at ease, that's what I like about EWC. The staff respects your privacy and asks YOU what YOU want, nothing less. It's bad enough, I'm showing my whoo whoo to a stranger, but I appreciate the privacy and respect provided. The wax hurts but honestly, it's not as bad as other places I've been. EWC uses some type of hard, stripless wax. It glide right onto the skin, hardens, then it's pulled off. The wax isn't too hot and depending on how it's laid, it'll determine how bad it will feel. On a previous visit at this location, the waxer placed the wax a little different and I realize how much more painful it was. Kristina was a little more gentle therefore, I will be going back to see her more often. Few tips - I don't do my eyebrows at EWC nor would I recommend it unless you have found someone there who you trust can do a good job. I have done it once at another location and did not like it. I recommend for body waxing mostly. - Also, they offer evening hours. So those who opt to come after work, they've got good availability. If possible, download the app for easier appointment booking. I swear by EWC and highly recommend them to all my friends. My visit yesterday was disappointing, however. The ladies at the front desk were great and responsive. I initially booked with Eve for a Brazilian but was delayed in getting there so I had to meet with someone else. They assured me that all their technicians were good. The technician I had was efficient and barely spoke. She got right to business and occasionally let me know what she was doing. This was unnerving though; waxing is painful and preparing for each pull is literally what helps it seem less agonizing. I've never had a technician just lay on wax and yank in silence. When she was done, there were remnants of wax on my inner thighs and derriere & small patches of hair left over in places I know should have been removed with proper waxing. Moral of the story: Stick with individuals being recommended on Yelp, firmly. I should have waiting the additional hour to see Eve. We spend a lot of money on these services. This place does its job. The front desk people are ok. The actual wax technicians are awesome. The one girl I started going to, Natasha was awesome. She's no longer there unfortunately. There is a woman who's first language is Spanish and is the reason why I still go there. I referred my friend and she bought a years package. She loves the Hispanic woman who waxes her. I tried to call for a walk in appointment and the receptionist made it seem like that was the most irresponsible thing I could've done. It clearly is discouraged but it was worth trying. I got a Brazilian bikini wax with Jasmine yesterday. I had not had a wax for a while, so the hair had grown in quite a bit. Jasmine did an excellent job!! I thought my wax would hurt like hell but she was so quick and efficient that it hardly hurt at all! She also took the time to tweeze out any stubborn hairs. Had my first Brazilian wax today and it could not have gone any smoother! My specialist was Amber, and she was amazing! Amber was gentle and quick while explaining everything she was going to do (down there) As for the front desk personnel, they were also lovely and gave me a great overview of all their services and packages. Another positive is that European waxing center does give you sample packets of exfoliants and lotion as well, so that made me happy. Although first time waxes are discounted, I ended up paying full price and then some because I purchased their exfoliant which is 18 bucks, and of course added a good tip. P.S. I believe if your waxing specialist did a great job without hurting your most SENSITIVE AREA, then they deserve a generous tip. Amber definitely deserved it! read more
