Glad to have found a good Chinese place near my work. I was happy I gave this place a try during a recent lunch. I ordered a lunch special and paid the little extra for an egg roll. I ordered the chicken lo mein to bring home as part of dinner for the family. Both were pretty good and I found the staff very friendly. Definitely my go to place in East Syracuse now. This has always been our "go to" for Chinese ( for YEARSSS), but..... we ordered three orders of General Tso's Chicken for dinner tonight. The chicken was tough and stringy, and seemed to be mostly fried coating with minimal sauce. We were really disappointed and will have to find another fav Chinese place if this happens again. read more

Always our go to when we don't want to cook but don't want to go to a restaurant. Best Chinese food I've had in a while. They always are ready within 15min of calling and the service is always friendly. No sitting area here but that's not what we come for. We always enjoy our own combos and end up with more than enough leftovers to have another day. My boyfriend is a die hard sesame chicken and fried rice combo and I always go for the general tso chicken and sub fried rice for vegetable lo mein for an added charge. All combos come with an egg roll on top of that. These 2 meals come out to around $28 which I find very reasonable for how much they give you. I really enjoy their homemade kimchi too! we tried ChengTu last year after East Wok had really gone downhill, glad we did! Food is fresh and very good, the staff there is polite and friendly. Shrimp and lobster sauce was excellent, large shrimp. Gen Tso's was fresh and not hard and dried up like some other places that use leftover chicken. Called ahead of time. Person on the phone was very polite and respectful. Upon entering it was clean and the lighting was great. I ordered the bbq spare ribs and white rice with a side of steamed dumplings and a egg roll. The bbq spare ribs had a good flavor but the meat was very dry and thin, there was a few pieces in the bunch that were juicy and soft. The side of dumplings was delicious especially with the sauce they give you. The egg roll was very oily and lacked flavor in my opinion. Just ordered some takeout from here and it was really filling for the price! I ordered two lunch specials: Kung Pao shrimp and the garlic chicken and 2 veggie spring rolls. The lunch specials also came with egg drop soup and fried rice. There was a great amount of shrimp and chicken in both dishes, and the total came out to about $17. Both dishes were seasoned well and not super oily. In addition, I asked for extra spiciness, and they definitely delivered on it. Looking forward to ordering more from here! read more

Ordered hot and sour soup as well as broccoli with garlic sauce. The hot and sour soup had virtually no vegetables or solid component. It seemed like gloppy red egg soup. Had no flavor. Couldn't eat it. The broccoli, garlic sauce was better, but very oily, and I ordered extra spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. Better take out nearby. read more

Over the past few years, I think quality has gone down. The General Tso has no heat, or even chili peppers in it at all. The crab rangoons are flavorless and the adults always appear to be yelling at the child answering the phone. I do like the convenience as there isn't another Chinese take out near that location. read more

We ordered lunch today and it was not great. I ordered steamed dumplings which are a favorite of mine. When I opened the container, the garlic overwhelmed me and the sauce was worse. The staff is always friendly and they make your food fresh as you order it. I come here atleast once a month or more. I have never had gross sesame chicken, it's always saucy and delicious! Very few times I have had the rice a little hard, but nothing I couldn't finish eating. Overall, the food is almost always on point! I have leftovers for the next day when I get the dinner portion combos! Definitely the best place in East Syracuse for Chinese food, unlike the mall and other places, it's not just sitting out in heaters waiting to be ordered. I read a review that the chicken was to be avoided. So I did that. I first got the beef and broccoli (small size) and it was very good and the perfect portion for a hungry dude that's 155 lbs and 5'11" who likes larger portions. Then a week later went for the roasted pork with broccoli and garlic sauce. Even better! I'm going with another roasted pork dish this evening and felt compelled to write a review before I headed in that direction. I also order the food - get home - work out and then heat it up real quick. You can't heat the rice (metal) but the portions to-go are in nice microwave safe plastic and you can zap it right up. Ask for hot oil too - and they'll give you a ramekin (I get 2) and it'll be nice and more spicy for you. If you call and you're 10 mins away, your dinner will be sitting there waiting for you when you roll up. You need to ask for chopsticks or they won't pack them automatically. However, they always pack a fortune cookie. And there is WONDERFUL hot tea that is complementary while you wait and/or are picking up your dinner real quick. They do not take American Express (annoying). This is a carry out Chinese dump. Nothing more, nothing less. But for what it is, I have zero complaints. If you wanted to get it done for $6 and have a pile of food and pretty much every option you'd like to have - this is your place. Staff seems kind and knowledgeable too. Just have your order ready when you call! They aren't the most patient bunch. There is nowhere to sit in the venue - and a few chairs if you wanted to roll up, order and then head out. read more

Best Chinese food in the Syracuse area. This place has been in East Syracuse as long as I can remember. Always amazing food. Chicken lomain, sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken, orange chicken, ribs, crab rangoon, EVERYTHING. The sauce is always great, rice is never dry and meat is always wonderful, ready in 10-15 minutes, even on busy days. They don't deliver which stinks but it is a family run business and they are very wonderful people. I normally don't write reviews because it's not my thing, but I was looking their number up and saw poor reviews and was annoyed. I'm 25 and have gone here since i was a kid, never once had anything bad to say always amazing, hot, timely, and friendly service Love them!!!! read more

We went here and the food was old and totally unappetizing. Maybe if we had arrived earlier it would've been more fresh and tasty, but "as-is" the Gen. Tsao was nasty. I work 5 minutes down the road and the food is always ready by the time I hang up the phone, hop in the car and pull into the parking lot. Went there for take-out last night for the first time. I ordered sweet & sour chicken & an order of crab Rangoon. The Crab Rangoon was horrible. It tasted like it had been made the day before as the edges were hard/chewy, like cardboard and there was a teeny little pocket of filling in the middle & came with NO sauce. :( couldn't eat it. Tried the sweet & sour chicken & it wasn't much better. The sweet & sour sauce they provided was gelatinous and was very bland. The rice was bland and a little under-cooked, and the chicken, well nothing to write home about. I will NOT be returning here again! read more

I have been stopping here at least once a week for the last couple of years since it is on my way home from work. I usually order the shrimp with chinese vegetables with white rice and white sauce. The food is always good and prepared quickly. I ask for extra shrimp to be added which they do for $1 each. Since I get the big portion, it lasts me at least 2, sometimes 3 meals. Well worth the price. The eggrolls and wonton soup is also very good. My husband orders the sesame chicken which he really enjoys. Haven't been to Chengtu for about 5 years and it has gone downhill. Paid $30 for 2 entrees which were scantily filled. One was Happy Family which is supposed to have lobster, shrimp, scallops, pork and chicken and chinese vegetables.Only one tiny piece of lobster, one scallop cut in half, loads of broccoli, a few diced up baby corns, some brown pieces of some kind of meat and other nonlegible ingredients. I was expecting at least some bokchoy, which is a chinese vegetable and of course they filled it with carrot strips, which everybody uses as an extender..there were some shrimp which tasted old.when I used to get it, it was chockful of everything listed and was fresh. The other entree was PUPU platter..it was overkill on the breading on the shrimp..breaded it appeared huge, peeled the breading off and it was very small..guess it was an expensive lesson learned.
