In recently stopped in to Cheri's for a chocolate chip cookie. While I had never been to their other location, [[HIGHLIGHT]]this new spot was clean and a very large space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I like that they are open on Sundays since most other bakeries are not The woman that waited on me was friendly and patient while I looked around since it was my first visit. The cookie was very good, definitely freshly baked. The price was reasonable and comparable to other places I look forward to going back and trying other items. read more

Wanted to switch to a more local bakery for my holiday needs so I decided to try Cheri's. For Christmas I went ahead of time to order and explained that I had 30 guests and wanted to order a large tray of assorted pastries along with a couple other pies and items. The women checking me out said they don't do trays but could do an assortment of pastries split amongst 2 boxes, which was perfectly fine with me as I was going to plate them. I picked them up and should have checked the boxes before leaving because I was given large pastry in size rather than quantity. In total I had about 8 pastries and wasn't able to serve them as a dessert because I didn't have enough. I wasn't happy for the money I spent but decided to chalk it up as a miscommunication and give Cheri's one more try for Easter. As my guests were eating we realized that the chocolate cream pie and all of the pastries filled with the chocolate cream tasted off and realized it was spoiled. The Italian baked goods here are scrumptious! The staff help you out with everything you are looking for. They have all kinds of Italian pastries ,cakes(Italian Crème), donuts,pies and Italian cookies. When we lived in the area, we frequented Cheri's whenever the "need" for Italian pastries arose. Sad that after the pandemic they were gone...but going back this past February, found out they reopened in a new location. We got over $100 in pastries to bring back to Atlanta (which has ZERO Italian pastry shops). All of it was so good! I'm a huge fan of the chocolate filled lobsters! read more

I'm so happy that Cheri' relocated not far from their original location. It's over in the strip mall by where the Chinese food place that was there for years is now a pub restaurant and the Duncan. When they were at the original location they had so many things and that everything was great. But here not as many things and everything is delicious. For instance, they make slices of crumb cake to go, which are delish plus entirely round ones that I guess are made in a bundt pan but are phenomenal. My favorite is the cranberry Walnut one and they put a little of that crystallized sugar on it. It doesn't have like the big crumbles of crumb cake and not all of them do. But for Thanksgiving time we got the one we bought the one that had raspberry in it and it had the big crumb cake crumbles on top with some of that like melted white icing that freezes but not too much. They have the chocolate covered cannolis & reg which are my favorite. I know when they went into more like the village you had to buy them pre-boxed here you could buy individually. They also have Sfigodeli & A few other Italian desserts. Obviously for holidays they want you to pre-order pies. They do have some pies so if you just go in on a regular basis as well as a few cupcakes I was never a fan of their cupcakes. Everybody there was absolutely so nice and prices are totally not through the roof. I 1000% believe it's better than the original since I think I went to the original 1-2x's but didn't go back. So definitely check it out, esp. in Branford. Not too many bakeries yet alone Mom & Pop degrees. read more

Old business that came back to Branford. The baked good are as good as they were when they left. Pies, cakes, pastry. etc. I got a Chocolate Lemon pie that was out of this world. Nice tart lemon filling toped with a rich sweet chocolate. They are conveniently located on main street. They have off street parking in the rear. Cheri's Bakery is an Italian Pastry Bakery that opened in Branford, Connecticut in 1998. It was founded by husband and wife Pat and Cheryl Gargano. Pat has been baking for well over 50 years. He trained at Castellon Brothers Bakery and Delicatesson in Branford before it sadly burned down in 1998. The Garganos decided to open their own bakery at 267 E Main Street which specialized in classic Italian pastries, cakes and pies. The bakery built up a large following over the years, but the pandemic of 2020 added a lot of extra stress on the business. After closing down for Thanksgiving 2020, the Garganos made the difficult decision not to reopen. Fortunately, retirement couldn't keep them down forever. After 3+ years, Cheri's Bakery is back open at a new location in Branford Center. All of the baked goods are actually made offsite at a production facility (the former Denali building) in Old Saybrook and then transported to the Branford shop in the morning. The Garganos' children are also in the hospitality business. Patrick Jr. is also a baker and is now a partner at the bakery. Son Justin owns Thimble Island Brewing Company and other son Joel and his wife Lani own Grano Arso Restaurant in Chester. This past weekend, my family and I stopped in at Cheri's to get some delicious pastries. We were very happy when we heard that they had reopened and were doing well. The whole place was filled with cannoli, sfogliatelle, lobster tails, bocconotti, cookies, donuts, breads and pies. Since St. Joseph's Day was a couple of days away, we obviously needed to get some of the traditional St. Joseph's Day pastries: Zeppole. We ordered three Ricotta-filled Zeppole as well as my favorite pie in the world: Chocolate Lemon Pie! Everything we bought was delicious! We are lucky to have some excellent Italian bakeries in the Greater New Haven area, and we are happy to have Cheri's back! read more

Absolutely amazing pastries! What a great way to send us off to Chicago. We stood by and grabbed a couple of coffees. And their donuts and Italian pastries are sweet, but not so sweet. Delicious! Perfect stop during the all season. And don't forget to try their apple and pumpkin loafs. read more

Before I headed out to Cheri's Bakery on the morning of Saturday, July 26, I checked the bakery's website and FB page to make sure it was open. Everything indicated that it was. I made the trip from New Haven only to be greeted by a sign on the door that said it had been closed since July 13th and would be closed until mid August. While I hope everything is okay with the owners and they are on a relaxing vacation, I wish that someone would have put an announcement on their website and FB page telling everyone of their temporary closure. read more

Went to Cheri's today and had a great cannoli it was delicious but I must admit the service was just terrible. The person behind the counter was rude and charged me for a coffee I never received. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's unfortunate because otherwise the place is great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I understand people having bad days, but a simple smile goes a long way. First time back in Cheri's Bakery since their relocation to the center of town. New locale but same amazing treats!!
