This is a great high quality specialized bakery. I have eaten many of their cakes over the past few years and can't say enough about the taste and texture. I also think they are reasonable priced, considering the quality of the product. I just ordered 13 of their cupcakes and it was very difficult determining what flavors I wanted. They have great pictures and descriptions on line. They also display a lot of them in a case on their counter. The person that waited on be could not of been more helpful in my decisions on flavors. We all know the decision of a wedding cake is crucial and we need someone to dial down the crazy and not overwhelm us with more options. I guess that they heard me already on this and were totally supportive and did a well informed tasting for us where they were very accommodating to our requirements. They customised this cake for us absolutely perfectly where we got both fillings of chocolate and mocha because we couldn't land on just one type. The decoration was done with the most buttery frosting and not the almost inedible hard frosting which is overly sweet. The frosting we got was buttery and delicious. They don't do cake toppers but they give you the dimensions and you can order the topper and bring it to them. The added bonus for us was that they are about 2-3 minutes drive from us. We ordered a chocolate birthday cake with chocolate mousse and raspberries between the layers. The outer frosting was some type of butter cream. The cake was delicious and not overly sweet. It was decorated beautifully. My only issues were 1. price ($50 seemed a bit high, we needed it for just 4 people and this was their smallest size. 2. It's so nice when the venue and a vendor have experience working together. They even tied in our florist to decorate it. J cakes is the most popular cake place in North Haven. I came to know about it when I see many localities recommending this place for ordering cakes. My first impression was very good. They are taking very good care in maintaining Covid protocols. Their cup cake menu changes every day and almost all the cup cakes I tried tasted good (it's not at all dry). I would have liked to rate the place more. The reason I am rating only 3 stars is that 1. They don't have any vegan options. That's still fair. 2. Spent over $100 for a vital offsite tasting and this bakery had the nerve to package curdled creams and stale cake for allll the various flavors. Not willing to accommodate the customer at all. Stopped in on an impulse to try out their cupcakes, which are on the counter on a display case. I was thrilled to learn that all of their cupcakes have a filling inside. I personally find cupcakes with no filling to be disappointing and often quite dry...basically, a travesty! I got two flavors and personally ate one of the two. I liked that the (salted caramel) one that I ate had a light, mousse like frosting. Buttercream frosting is fine too, but the lightly whipped mousse frosting hit the spot on this occasion. I wanted a special cake to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday and found this bakery. Placed my order with Hope a week ahead of time and selected the flavor and design from their website. When I went to pick it up, the staff was courteous, efficient and helpful. When they showed me the cake, I was blown away -- it was amazing! So I ordered their Christmas newspaper advertised "Buche Noel" Yule log cake at a cost of $65 I was looking for spectacular, however it didn't come close. The size was maybe equivalent to one and a 1/2 boxes of cake mix. It had two rock hard fondant "mushrooms" two flat chocolate Christmas Trees, and a Merry Christmas printed on a chocolate piece. The cake and the frosting were just ok for the amount paid what we got was not close to what I was looking forward to. The storefront doesn't have more than 10-16 cupcakes in a small case on the counter, it looks as though they do most of their business with wedding orders. I wouldn't order from them again too overpriced. read more

Our wedding cake was a star at our wedding! It tasted every bit as good as it looked. We had a tasting back in the summer, sampling many different filings. We loved too many of them to choose only one, but ultimately were able to choose two, and make each tier a different flavor (cannoli cream and mixed berry). If we had been in the position to have a three-tier cake, I would have made the third one mocha (it, too, was so good!). We worked with the owner to design the cake itself, and she helped us to create this very specific, personalized/custom topper, which we adore and have now placed on a prominent shelf in our kitchen to look at every day. The morning after our wedding, the remaining cake was in a box in the fridge at our venue (where we stayed), and we were able to take it home with us, where we polished it all off before leaving on our honeymoon! What a treat that was, and a great way to transition from wedding day to honeymoon. It's so cool that the cake continues to play such a part in our daily lives (we have actually both put this picture of the cake as the background on our phones!). Visiting friends who with at our wedding the week after our honeymoon, they did also comment on the beauty and the quality and taste of the wedding cake. We cannot recommend JCakes enough. read more

The food is delicious and the customer service is excellent! I had the misfortune of thinking that this was the Jcakes in Peabody MA (they are not affiliated and this is NOT that company). I ordered completely unaware that there were 2 different, unaffiliated, companies. On the day I was supposed to pick up my order (for my daughter's first birthday party) I found out that they were located in CT and I'm on the northshore of MA. They were nice enough to spit the delivery with me so we drove an hour and they drove an hour to pick up the cake and cupcakes. That was DEFINITELY above and beyond as this was my mistake. I was in search of customized specialty iced cookies but wasn't sure where to look so I sent Jcakes an email back in December and they were able to accommodate me! They have a separate baker their work with for cookies like that. They came out beautiful and were quite a hit at the party. I stopped in maybe 3 weeks ago to try some of their cupcakes. Mmmm....they were ok. I was slightly disappointed having just moved literally 3 minutes down the road and a rather avid cupcake lover. I originally wanted just a simple vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting which apparently was too simple and they don't have those readily available. I opted for 4 different ones. The cannoli one was the best. We also had a white chocolate mousse, some mixed berry thing and the 4th? I honestly totally forgot, so it couldn't have been that memorable. The setup for the dessert table was impeccably done, and the cupcakes were on point and delicious. They catered three flavors - vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. Each was a basic cupcake, with a flavored whipped filling to match, and then well-piped icing on top. The chocolate had a whipped chocolate center, and a ganache frosting. My wedding planning was a little stressful (ok a lot) but the owner Hope made the cake selection process so easy. The cake was elegant and modern including the tastefully placed flowers; it turned out magazine cover beautiful. The taste.... AMAZING! So moist..not excessively sweet and worth the calories. Advice: Remind the server to save a chunk for you and the groom later (you will thank me ). My wedding cake was NOT what I wanted. I paid $80 extra for a specific colored ribbon and some sugared flowers and also brought in a clear picture of exactly how I wanted my cake. I was no Bridezilla or anything but when I ever saw my cake at the reception I almost had a conniption fit. The ribbon was supposed to be a mossy green- instead it was a hideous shade of dark hunter green that could've pulled off as black! I specifically mentioned that on the flowers I wanted a light- natural green sprayed in the middles of the sugared flowers so that it would appear that they resembled real white flowers with the little green tinge that they usually do have... instead it was a blue-ish shade! It looked like a cake for someone's death! I was so embarrassed by it I didn't even want the photographer to take photographs of it. I wanted to just punch the cake out of my site.
