An excellent cafe featuring a wide variety of baked goods. My Airbnb host, a local, suggested G Cafe for breakfast. Locals don't lie. This place is phenomenal. My husband and I were so impressed, we visited twice. On the first visit, we started with a Raspberry Cronut. The glaze was wonderfully flavored and the pastry was perfectly buttery and flaky. I preferred their version over the original. For food, I ordered the Avocado Toast (smashed avocado, two poached eggs, marinated cherry tomato, queso fresco and peas green, $10.95) without the tomato. Wow, it was fabulous! The eggs were poached well, avocado was very fresh and the bread was phenomenal. Hubby ordered Oatmeal (steel-cut oats topped with toasted almonds drizzled with maple syrup, $7.95) and added seasonal fruit (+$1.50) which turned out to be berries. I don't like steel-cut oats so I didn't have any, however he was impressed and expressed his likeness for it very much. We also shared a yummy Vanilla Latte! I wanted to go back to next day to grab a loaf of that delicious bread used on the toast (I believe it was the "Fitness" bread?) when I bumped into another local who suggested I try the Cage Fee Egg N' Cheese Breakfast Sandwiches ($6.95). You can build it any way you like. I ordered one with cheddar and turkey (+$2.00) and one sausage (+$2.00). Both were delicious. Made to order, the eggs were perfectly cooked and I appreciated the generous piling on turkey. The brioche buns were wonderfully light and fluffy. Highly recommend! On the way out, I couldn't pass up another Raspberry Cronut. You shouldn't either. read more

The staff is also very friendly but i've noticed how longer the wait times have been and understaffed it seems, my drink today wasn't the best and the line was then again crazy due to a new layout (i think.) I'm pretty sure the old manager hasn't been around so maybe it's new management, if so I don't see any improvements, more like the opposite. read more

It's treat time! This place has one of my very favorite baked treats the amazing cronut! It's exactly as it sounds but keep in mind the croissants from g cafe are delectable so now combine some sweet icing on this masterpiece and you've got the ultimate treat! When we stop here the parking is always a little rough in Branford center but the pastries are worth that small headache. The case is filled with yummy pastries, breads, and cookies all freshly made. The food was good and the staff behind the counter was friendly. Why am I giving G Cafe in Branford only three stars? All of the tables and chairs were covered with crumbs and the floor was littered with food and napkins. Clearly no one was tidying up after any of the customers. My husband and I had to soak a few napkins in water to clean our table and chairs. The young gentleman who brought us our food saw us doing this and didn't blink an eye. The cafe was just about empty and the three people behind the counter were having a great time with one another and showed no interest in tidying up. I walked by here on my daily walks and always wondered how it was. Finally got the courage to go in for a late breakfast. You order on the counter and pay then they call up your name and you can take it to go or sit inside or outside. The outside sitting overlooks the green. Perfect for people watch. This cafe is so underrated! They always have freshly baked treats, I would recommend the almond croissant warmed it is sooooo delicious! We were actually planning on going somewhere else for breakfast, but because our Airbnb host suggested we go here, we came to G cafe on a whim! G Cafe reminds me of Panera except without the annoying nuances of a chain restaurant. Upon entrance customers are welcomed in with the sweet aroma of freshly baked pastries. I was surprised to even see larger breakfast entrees such as French toast and salmon pragels! We ended up ordering these for our breakfast, although my stomach begged me to also order the vanilla glazed cronut as well. Overall, the French toast was delicious! It was a bit too eggy for me, although the French toast was light and airy. The mild sweetness of fresh blueberries and strawberries elevated the French toast's tastiness! I took a bite out of the salmon pragel, and it was a savory delight! Not sure why it wasn't just called a "bagel" but honestly whatever works for G Cafe. Finally, the vanilla glazed cronut: a heavenly dessert sent from the higher beings of pastries. Buttery, crisp, and flaky layers on the inside surrounded by a sweet thick icing. Accidentally scarfing this down, I successfully convinced my husband to buy another one for the road. So glad we took the advice of our local airbnb host to come to G Cafe! This place is always dirty. If you come here first thing in the morning like I did they do not clean from the night before. Dirty tables and dirty floors. If they can not keep the from clean image what the kitchen looks like. And if you order a medium they will give you a small. They are very pushy with tipping asking for 20% . Pay your baristas better then maybe they would pick up a broom or a cleaning rag instead of being passive aggressive with customers who do not tip at a counter . read more

I love everything about this place. The omelettes are big, always fluffy, and generously filled. Always accompanied with thick toast from their own bread. Friends and I love going there there for lunch and sitting outside on their cafe tables or crossing over to the Town Green to eat. I have been an enthusiastic though infrequent customer for many years of G Bakery's two whole-grain breads, the Vollkorn Brot and the Josephine. The Vollkorn Brot baked the same as in Germany is a rare find in this country, and it has warranted my 45-minute trips from the New London area all the way to Branford (with a stop along the way at either of the two Foodworks). My predicament is that I must advance order, else these specialty breads will be sold out before I arrive. To top off my purchases, the staff here have always been courteous and helpful. Last week, a car crash on I-95 delayed traffic in Old Saybrook, at some points bringing traffic to a halt. Proceeding forward was pointless, so I turned around and headed home. I did try to phone at 1:30pm to cancel my order paid for and scheduled online for 1pm pickup, but I was put on hold for too long, so went shopping in Niantic in a supermarket (whose bread I did not buy, for instance the only wonder about Wonder Bread is it's a wonder that they call that bread). By the time I phoned G Bakery it was close to 2:30, and they close at 3pm. The very kind woman on the phone asked me if I wanted a refund. No! Of course not, I exclaimed, this was my fault, not theirs! (I realized that during only 30 minutes still open they could not sell the two loaves of Vollkorn Brot, which few customers truly appreciated.) I instructed the friendly voice on the phone to take the loaves home as my gift to her. Today, I discovered on my credit card that my money had been refunded anyway. In addition to the high integrity of their fine breads, their generosity is unprecedented. Thank You! I am a regular at this place so you know I like it overall, but today I saw something that changed my opinion. While I was waiting for my take out order to be filled I saw what must have been a manager or an owner looking over the deli case and arranging their offerings in a way to make them look more appealing. What set me off was that she was arranging pizza, sandwiches and muffins by bare hand. I don't know if that is a food code violation or not, but I was surprised none the less. I paid attention to the cashiers/servers to see if they also handled food bare-handed and I was relieved to see that they did not. Hats off to the cashiers/servers. Besides today's particular episode, I think the restaurant is pretty good. The tables in front are great to sit in and watch the goings on in the park. The food is always fresh and made to order. Ignore stated hours!! If they say 1pm they really mean 12:15..if they say 2 they mean 1:15. Being aware of their practices I called at 12:15 to put in an order only to be put on hold until I actually arrived at 12:20...as I walk in the line was 5 people deep.. much to all of our dismay promptly at 12:30 the kitchen decided to SHUT IT DOWN...mind you this is no Gordon Ramsey stunt...the kitchen obviously calls the shots and turned away at least $80 worth of orders shocking everyone in line...we were simply told "the kitchen shut down and there's nothing we can do"...one of the most bizarre establishments...turning away business.. they must make too much money and not need it. read more

Delicious bakery/ cafe set on the Branford green. Went on a Saturday morning with my young kids and we had a yummy breakfast. The cronut and walnut cinnamon roll were delicious. Also had a bacon, egg and cheese on a pragel (pretzel bagel) which was big! It was pretty busy on Saturday morning, a lot of call ahead or online orders being picked up. Service was fast and we ate right in the little dining room. It seemed pretty kid friendly and my kids enjoyed the treats. We will be back! read more

This adorable cafe in charming downtown Branford has excellent baked goods and coffee. We came up for the day and walked along the Main Street and happened upon this cafe, choosing it mostly because it had outdoor seating (Covid-19 times forced outdoor seating). I'm so glad I chose it, because the food was EXCELLENT and FRESH, and the employee and the owner were so kind! Nice new spot on the Branford Green for the bread and sandwich maker. I had never been to a Whole G bakery or cafe, but I had regularly visited their stand at City Seed, New Haven's farmers' market. I had a quick lunch here, and the panini were pretty tasty. All in all, it's just nice to have some new blood in the area, especially a new place that is interested in doing something well and doing something right.
