After almost six years of business and approximately $ 2k in 2 weeks, $981 plus some chump change on one specific cat. We were told absolutely no conclusion as to what was wrong with our eldest sphynx cat. After explaining exactly what happened the day before, it made absolute sense as to what was wrong. They ran all the tests, bloodwork, and x-rays. The labs came back a smidge high, and immediately this vet stated it was due to having parasites and/or Giardia. Mind you, we have five other cats at home, completely fine, with no signs. So we contained her to one room. We sent a fecal test out, and guess what, it came back clean. My husband takes two of our other cats for their wellness examinations and vaccinations, and the same vet listens to my other sphynx cat's heart for a VERY short time while he's growling, and he is very SPICY. Then, she proceeds to diagnose him with a heart murmur. My husband was slightly shocked as to how you could be able to tell within 7-10 seconds and him growling the entire time. The vet, in well-rehearsed fashion, then proceeds to whip out a sheet stating the price of $395+ of bloodwork, then an additional test that may give a possible indicator of the heart murmur. Then, she mentioned a referral to a specialist after completing the steps she needed to finish first for an ultrasound, then scoffed when my husband suggested just skipping the bloodwork and her procedures and seeing the specialist first. I go back to take my dog and two other cats for their wellness checks and vaccinations. This time I decided to be brave and ask about the heart murmur diagnosis. I explained to her my concerns and how you could be sure of that diagnosis if you only heard for such a short period of time and that I would like to have him reassessed at another facility only to be certain that this condition is accurate. As this has never been caught before, during prior procedures. Honestly, I couldn't understand how that could be missed. Now a new vet having a cold stethoscope on him while he is growling throughout the process of this and he gets a large diagnosis. You could see rage in her. Meanwhile, I am sobbing. She stated, "Your husband is wrong. It was well over 7-10 seconds." Then I addressed my elder cat from the week before and how there were no parasites and therefore no diagnosis. I went on about how I believed that it was because the yearly bug man was back and spraying. I felt sick to my stomach crying in front of someone that was treating me so negatively. I was met with pure aggression and told specifically, "You're telling me that you do not trust my opinion, so then we are not the vet for you." I responded with, "I'm about to book two more appointments. I have never been treated this way only due to asking for a second opinion. I want the best for my pets." Again she said, "I am meeting you with what you said to me. You said you don't trust my opinion, so WE are not the vet for you." Never once did I state I do not trust you. All due to me wanting a second opinion on one cat. I only wanted to ensure my cats' livelihood. This woman spoke for the entirety of Cherokee Animal Hospital. However, caring people caring for pets is not that human. Amanda Wilson was my favorite vet in the world. My husband and I adored her, we never felt uncomfortable and she always treated my animals and family with admiration. The front staff is so kind and amazing. After almost five years and thousands upon thousands of dollars. I can say this with courage Brooke Barrett IS NOT the vet for me. read more

I have seen other comments about their prices and yes, they are a bit expensive, but in my experience they are a fantastic veterinary practice! I trust my animals with them and have always received top-notch care from them. I have several cats and will be rescuing another stray cat next week that I have built trust with. The staff here know me by name and know my pets by name. I have never had a bad experience with these fine folks and the care my pets receive is always top-notch. Finally we found a hospital that follows current vaccine protocols and went did the work to be a member of AAHA. The Dr spent time with us, answered questions, and all staff was welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be returning with our other pets. read more

Cherokee Hospital for Animals is offering curbside service for everyone's convenience. We had to take Journey for his booster shots and did not have to wait long at all. They brought him back out to us in about 30 minutes. Prices are less expensive than other places in our area and the surrounding area. We are happy dog lovers. read more

MONEY HUNGRY. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! On Friday March 30, my daughter took Bagel to this vet because he had labored breathing and kept falling over. Bagel was 11 years old. I was in the area and I met her there. The vet we saw was just out of school. She stated that the he could have had either kidney failure or heart failure and treating 1 or the other could cause the other organ to fail. She stated a blood panel would help us know more. His panel came back that it was just his heart. We were informed that he was on oxygen and would benefit from a day stay in the hospital on diuretics (to remove fluid from heart) and would go home with 3 medications. The vet stated Bagel was unhappy with the O2 mask and that was why he was barking in the back and he might be calmer in an O2 cage. I asked the costs and she stated $40 an hour. I declined since he already had O2 on. Since my daughter is in school I prepaid around $530 for Bagel's stay and my husband and I left to drive home to Nashville (5 hours away) We left Bagel at the hospital and my daughter called around 3 pm to check on him and was informed he was not happy with the mask and in the cage but was feisty. This hospital did not do overnight stays and has an on call 24 hour vet hospital they use. Around 6 pm my daughter was called and informed Bagel was doing well and ready to be picked up and go home. This is the hard part of the story. At 7 pm I receive a call from my daughter crying. She stated that Bagel's tongue is grey and he is panting hard and floppy. What should she do? I informed her to call the on-call vet to see if he should be brought in and given more diuretic. The on-call hospital told her he had enough medicine at the animal hospital and to wait until the next morning for his next dose of medicine. I received another call from my daughter 30 minutes later informing me Bagel would not stand up and was having a hard time breathing and what should she do?? I told her put him in his bed and carry him to the car to take to he vet!! She said hold on MOM!!! I'll call you back, he is pooping. 5 minutes later I received ONE OF THE MOST HEART WRENCHING CALLS I have ever received from my daughter. She was inconsolable and could barely speak. Our sweet dog passed away in her arms before she could get him out the door! Her dad and I had to locate a vet hospital she could take him to for cremation. She placed him in his favorite bed with all of his favorite toys and dropped him off at a place she didn't know on a Friday night, she was told they would place him in a freezer until Monday. We have had to say goodbye to another family dog of 15 years and the vet was kind and told us when it was time. Looking back, I believe they knew it was "time" for our sweet Bagel and instead of doing the humane and kinder thing, they chose to make money. If he was doing that poorly at the end of the day, why not tell my daughter he needed to be transferred to another vet hospital? My husband has called the hospital all last week requesting and asking to speak to the owner. He was requesting that they deduct half of the bill. 1) We had to pay for cremation 2) We felt they were not honest in representation of the true issues Bagel had. We were informed the owner would not do any reimbursement by the staff and the owner will not return our call. But I am MAD our sweet dog suffered. I am MAD my daughter walked thru saying goodbye in such a terrible way and is left with that memory. Took very sick dog to this hospital, they were very rude and was not accepting any more patients. Very, very unsatisfied. Even had the nerve to tell me very rudely when I entered the door with my pet for excessive bleeding "You need to go back out that door and call us. Can't you read the sign?" Then when I call them from trhe parking lot and explained the situation I was told "We are not accepting any more patients at this time. I had to leave there with my sick pet and drive all the way across town to EasyVet Clinic on Peoples St. and I was welcomed and my pet and I were taken in immediately and now my pet is receiving the treatment she deserves. I would NOT advise anyone to take their sick pet to Cherokee Hostipital if you are needing immediate care. read more

If I could rate less than one star, I would. My list of grievances is long for just one office visit with my two fur-babies. My 4 month old kitten started showing sudden signs of difficulty with keeping her balance and walking. I called multiple vets, but decided to go to Cherokee because they could see her the soonest. I regret this decision. I went ahead and took both of my cats, so that they could get vaccinated. However, the main purpose of the visit was my kitten suddenly becoming ill. When they were seen, the entire appointment was rushed. There was probably about 10 minutes spent on my two cats, combined, by the vet. Max. Even with the youngest being sick. The time scheduled for my appointment was 40 minutes, but it didn't even come close to that. It made it seem like they really didn't care. I tried explaining to the vet what the issues were with her gait. I explained how it came on suddenly. I explained how she wasn't being herself. Regardless of this, and the fact that this issue was the whole reason we were there, she never once observed her walk, even when I tried to show her. She brushed it off and said it was probably ear mites, (she had tested positive), or an ear infection (she wasn't tested for this). She was treated for ear mites and sent home. I'm not a vet, but even I know the kind of imbalance she had been showing wasn't in line with what happens with ear infections and ear mites. I bit my tongue and went home. I should add that they were kind and friendly. Just not very helpful. Seven days later, my kitten's issues had progressed exponentially; she would hardly walk, had lost over a pound of weight, and was depressed and lethargic. When she did walk, she couldn't go more than 3-4 unsteady steps without either falling over or needing to rest. At 4 months old, this shouldn't be happening. She had a followup appointment a couple of weeks later, but I knew she couldn't wait that long. I called the office back and explained how much the symptoms had progressed. I was never able to actually speak to the vet on the phone, my message was just relayed. I got a call back a couple of hours later, and was told the vet thought it was probably just an ear infection. They said she would write a prescription for antibiotics to get her through to her next appointment. In summary, they literally tried to give my kitten antibiotics for a suspected infection, that they had not tested for, and that her symptoms did not line up with. I even explained how her loss of balance was different from that of an ear infection, but it didn't make a difference. Can you say antibiotic resistance? Because over-prescription of antibiotics is one of the leading causes. I was supposed to get another call back about the antibiotics but they never called. Another issue I had with the visit was how many things they try to convince you to buy. There was easily twice as much time of my appointment spent with people trying to tell me I needed to buy microchips, preventative treatments, pay to have their teeth cleaned, pay to have their nails clipped, and much more, than was actually spent with the vet. This was after I had already communicated that I was on a limited budget. It was presented in a way that made me, as a pet owner, feel like a bad pet-parent if I didn't get/do all of the things they pushed at me. Overall, this made the visit feel a lot more like a sales pitch than a care treatment for my ill kitten. They also handled my cats very roughly. One of them is feisty, so I understood that a little bit more. But the other is very meek. There was no reason to be rough with her. Needless to say, I will not be going back. Oh, I took my sick kitten to another vet (who was very caring and attentive). We're still running tests. But she doesn't have an ear infection. read more

Run from this business if you love your pets. Especially Robin Simpkins. My daughter's 13 year old cat had a tumor in her sinus cavity and she kept treating her for an infection for months. The poor cat was suffering so much and we couldn't understand why. When I finally spoke with Dr? Simpkins about the pain the cat was in she was cold and angry. Very unprofessional and mad that she had to take time out to talk to me. Dr S finally prescribed a kitty Ibuprofen in a large white pill form that was EXPIRED. (no liquid available they said) We took her to the emergency vet two days later and she had a tumor eating through the roof of her mouth. You could visually see it. They were very kind there (what a change) and peacefully put her to sleep. Simpkins does not care about you or your pets. I do understand mistakes, but she was very rude and heartless. And caused a wonderful cat to suffer needlessly as well as my daughter. read more

If you have an animal due for their check up or in need of emergency care, I highly recommend Cherokee! They were fantastic from the time we entered the building until the time we left. The staff is super friendly and they doted over my babies, making sure I understood everything. They really do care about your animals health and well being. This is a difficult review to write. How are healthy and full of life yellow lab, Jack, is not doing so well. We boarded him at the Cherokee hospital for two nights two weeks ago. They screened him for kennel cough. Two days later ironically, Jack showed signs of kennel cough. We took him in and also found out that said he had a yeast infection in his ears. Keep in mind that Jack has never, never been sick in the eight years that we have had him. They gave him an antibiotic for the cough and eardrops for the infection in his ears. The ear drop medicine is called Gentizol. Two weeks later, Jack is approximately 90% deaf in both ears. I was on the web tonight and it was very easy to find that this seems to be a common problem with Gentizol. While I know that no veterinarian would intentionally bring harm to a dog like Jack, it does seem reasonable that they would know of the risks and track record Gentizol and prescribe something different that is less likely to have such tragic outcomes. I will be following up with the veterinarians tomorrow at this particular clinic to see how they would like to remedy the situation., And will update this review as appropriate Update: jack's hearing has returned to about 8590%. I don't know if you'll get it all back. The doctor was very patient with us and our concerns. She explained that the medication that causes deafness, either temporary or permanent, is found in a lot of the medications that they prescribe. I really just wish we would have known about the deafness possibility. Perhaps we would've checked into alternative eardrops. In the end, we will likely take Jack back. The whole staff is quite caringand aside from the deafness issue we've had good experiences. I would definitely bump our experience to 3 1/2 to 4 stars read more

They come right out, take your pet inside and do the exam. The veterinarian will call you on the phone and provide you the results and answer any questions you may have. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE! I give them zero stars, but Yelp won't let me. After reading the reviews of Cherokee Animal Hospital, I felt the need to share my story. I boarded my Maltese and Doberman there once for a week and when I picked them up, they were filthy and starved. I thought this was because they were upset at being left for a week and didn't eat. Well, I left them a second time the following year for a week with instructions to feed the Doberman canned food if she wouldn't eat dry food when upset. I even called while away to remind them to feed her canned food every day. When I picked them up, they were dirty again and starved. When I paid the bill, I was only charged for one can of food, which I'm sure was all she was fed the whole time I was gone. She was so skinny her ribs were showing. I fed them and a couple of hours later, the Doberman was restless and I thought she was just tired. The next morning, I went downstairs and found her dying. She died before I could get her to the vet. The vet said it was bloat, which is where her stomach turned over, probably from where her stomach was empty and then she frantically ate. I can't begin to say how upset and devastated I was. I feel that they KILLED my dog because they didn't take care if her! I would NEVER let them near any of my pets ever! read more

I love everyone here. The doctor is so kind of explains things so week and the front desk ladies are the sweetest, they love on our babies. We have four animals we take there and they have all been treated with love and care. They are a bit pricey but I never feel like I'm spending more than they are worth. I try to avoid going to them unless it's for an reason like shots or surgery just because they are big on medication for a lot of problems and that leads to unnecessary costs. So a lot of times we will call and see what we can do at home first before going in if there's a problem. But that being said they are great about taking calls and giving advice over the phone. In response to Page E: yes, Cherokee Animal Hospital is a bit expensive and I am so sorry that your beloved pet did not survive his/her illness. It is a terrible thing to have such an ill pet and have to manage the care and costs. I am sure you could have requested a second opinion or gone to the emergency clinic. As for myself, I have found a very caring and compassionate animal clinic. I take three dogs there and have never been disappointed with the medical care they received. I have had a pet, at one time or another for the past 30 years and must say, this is the best animal clinic I have been to. Very knowledgeable, caring, compassionate. Boarded our 6 year old English Setter for the first time ever several weeks ago - the staff was awesome at drop off and pickup! Extremely friendly and welcoming - no complaints until a week and a half later when we had to take him to the after hours clinic and then to Nashville to our family vet where he was diagnosed with Kennel cough. I called to let them know - hoping at least for a credit of the kennel cough shot he was given at check in but all I got was an I'm sorry and we will scrub everything down. $400+ later for vet bills I won't be boarding here again. read more
