When we walked in for our very first viewing of our loved one since his unexpected death the office manager came out, looked at us with a look on her face like she was confused by our presence, and asked in a very rude voice if she could help us. She left to bring in the funeral director who looked very professional but her voice was way too upbeat for the situation. She did NOT prepare us for what we were going to see or inform us what procedures or other preparations were done prior to our arrival. We walked in to the room and he is laying on a gurney. A gurney. Not a coffin or legit table. He was an organ donor so the hospital had harvested some long bones which is awesome he was able to help other people in need. What was irritating was the funeral home did nothing to make the body look normal, he was very obviously a lot shorter on the GURNEY than he was in life. The funeral home has no sitting area where family members could take a break or wait for people in the viewing room. No water and coffee for people. There were a couple of chairs in the hallway where everybody can walk by (and through) your party and watch you as they're coming in the front door. There was very little privacy. Somebody also came in while we were in the viewing room and asked us if we were ok (in an in appropriately upbeat voice again). It was just terrible. If you want a better experience, any death is hard enough you don't need the stress of insensitive jerks, then I recommend Rill Chapel's Life Trubute Center in Port Orchard.

My grandmother and uncle used a lot of time deliberating between every little detail of the headstone; it honestly took quite some time. Melanie was incredibly patient and did not rush the process. She gave everyone adequate time to make their final decision and was transparent about what was / wasn't included. Working with Melanie was very pleasant. A minor complaint was that I had to leave multiple messages in order to reach Melanie so I'm not sure if my messages were ever relayed. In the end, I had to reach out a fifth time before I finally spoke with Melanie. I'm sure they are always incredibly busy and do not fault them for this at all - it's just a mere FYI for anyone trying to contact them. Overall, I really enjoyed the process with Mount Pleasant.

I have no qualms with the Woodinville Cemetery itself. After many years of dishevel, new…read moremanagement had transformed it into a beautiful resting place for loved ones who had passed away. It had become one of the lovliest smaller cemeteries around the Puget Sound and Snohomish areas. What I found puzzling though, was the required measurements of the cemeteries headstones. They said that they had specific guidelines to the size. Mine started off in a fairly decent large size, but was literally cut down to much smaller dimensions that I had originally invisioned for my loved ones. It was disappointing, but I just needed to get that headstone made and placed over their grave. Pacific Coast Memorials did a superb job putting it together inspite of the difficult measurements they were given to work with. My husband and son were buried in the same casket and the same plot. After two years of waiting for it to be made, delivered and installed at the cemetery because of Covid, I noticed that so many of the other headstones were bigger. There were even monument size ones here and there. Why did they make me cut back my measurements so drastically? My headstone was swallowed up by hovering ones nearby. I just found out why! It's because we had purchased only one plot. At least they are both buried under a large apple tree....a fruit they mutually loved and a plot that was easily seen from the main street. I can drive by and spot their resting place immediately. All is forgiven!

For Memorial Day, the Daughters of the American Revolution Susan Woodin chapter sponsored an event…read morecalled "Woodinville Pioneers Come to Life!" which was a living tribute to honor some of Woodinville's earliest pioneers laid to rest there. The event was planned from 12 noon til 3pm and kicked off with the local Boy Scouts raising the American flag half mast to honor those Veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their service. The DAR organization had actors dressed in period-piece clothing that were scattered at the grave sites of Woodinville's founding fathers. In full garb, the actors shared the unique history of the pioneer's life they portrayed. Some of the characters I encountered were: Clara Teegarden, Woodinville's first school teacher, Susan Woodin, who founded Woodinville and Seneca Phyllis, a Union Civil War soldier, among many others. The actors did an amazing job staying in character while sharing each of their character's local history. The ladies at the DAR table were great - they welcomed visitors to the cemetery and explained what to expect during their cemetery walking tour. Many flyers were on the table that explained DAR and how to get involved with the organization. If any "future Daughter" was interested in tracing their genealogy back to a potential Revolutionary Patriot, DAR would be available to help. There were many children at the event who were engaged learning about the local history as well.....maybe it was because the DAR had trivia questions for the kids and if they answered correctly, received a cookie loot bag for their efforts. :) Nevertheless, the kids all seemed to have a good time. The Cemetery itself was beautifully manicured and well kept. Not a large piece of land, but I understand that plots are still available for purchase. There were many flowers on headstones and flags due to the holiday. Mother Nature cooperated with sun for most of the afternoon. Limited parking available. A fun and informative afternoon had by all.

Dad has been in an unmarked grave for over a month and a half. Not even a temporary placard while the headstone is shipped in. Mike Betts wants us to think it's the funeral home that's responsible for placing a temporary placard, which isn't true. The headstone was made in advance, it's been sitting in a warehouse since the 1980s. Mike Betts can't remember our recent meeting when he ordered the delivery, and has no shipping data at all. We got a check in the mail because we were overcharged on their services. The check was written payable to my Dad. Wouldn't the cemetery know he is dead and he can't cash checks??? Now it's another errand to fix their latest screw up. As a grieving family, we thought Holyrood cemetery was going to handle Dad's burial arrangements with grace and precision. We are disappointed. We had to call again to ask about the headstone delivery and the gentleman who answered the phone was so confused about their record keeping system, and he asked how to spell my Dad's name three times! Write it down once and remember!

I am not sure if they have facilities to host memorial or funeral services because we wanted to have our own small family service to be followed later by a celebration of life service later at our own church. The woman who I worked with told me that it was necessary to wait until January to file the paperwork because the VA ran out of funding by October. I believed her. Then I called the VA and they told me that was nonsense and they couldn't imagine why anyone would tell me that. When I called and told them this, I was told the paperwork had been sent but checking with the VA proved otherwise. I called again and informed them of this and once again was told the paperwork was sent. For the second time, the VA said they had received nothing. For the third time I had to call them and demand the paperwork be sent. Finally it was sent but it was done incorrectly and the VA sent it back to me. It was finally up to me to handle the paperwork on my own. The woman I dealt with had assured me not once but three times that the paperwork was handled and each time that was proven to be false. The claim she made about the VA running out of funding was proven to be false. I do not know what her motivation was nor do I care. I was in mourning for my husband and the last thing I needed to deal with was this woman's unprofessional behavior and her lack of integrity. There may be good, trustworthy people who work there, unfortunately I was handled by a person who was just the opposite and on that basis alone I would not recommend this service. When I first drove up to their location, seeing it was in a strip mall, I immediately had reservations. I should have trusted my instincts and gone elsewhere for all the aggravation this woman caused me.
