My father passed away and we were not prepared. Melody and the staff of Lewis Chapel were amazing to us. There was care, understanding, and attention to detail. My father was buried with military honors and they handled all of the arrangements to make that happen. They actually brought some life to a terrible day and took great care of us. I would give no stars if I could. This funeral home is severely lacking with customer care. When we walked in for our very first viewing of our loved one since his unexpected death the office manager came out, looked at us with a look on her face like she was confused by our presence, and asked in a very rude voice if she could help us. She left to bring in the funeral director who looked very professional but her voice was way too upbeat for the situation. She did NOT prepare us for what we were going to see or inform us what procedures or other preparations were done prior to our arrival. We walked in to the room and he is laying on a gurney. A gurney. Not a coffin or legit table. He was an organ donor so the hospital had harvested some long bones which is awesome he was able to help other people in need. What was irritating was the funeral home did nothing to make the body look normal, he was very obviously a lot shorter on the GURNEY than he was in life. The funeral home has no sitting area where family members could take a break or wait for people in the viewing room. No water and coffee for people. There were a couple of chairs in the hallway where everybody can walk by (and through) your party and watch you as they're coming in the front door. There was very little privacy. Somebody also came in while we were in the viewing room and asked us if we were ok (in an in appropriately upbeat voice again). It was just terrible. If you want a better experience, any death is hard enough you don't need the stress of insensitive jerks, then I recommend Rill Chapel's Life Trubute Center in Port Orchard. read more

In my time of deepest sorrow, with the death of my daughter, I was treated with a lack of respect throughout the entire end-of-life process. I have three main issues: Firstly, funeral Director "Chris" Lewis never returned a single call of mine, only returning the next-of-kin's calls. He justified it by saying that it was because I was not the next of kin, taking the Washington State laws to an exaggerated extreme. Secondly, I asked Mr. Lewis to ask the person preparing my daughter for cremation to please take photos of all of my daughter's tattoos, as I was planning on getting the same ones. I specifically asked for a photo of the one on the back of her neck because we designed it together, in addition to the one on her hip. A week later, I received the photos of the readily apparent tattoos on her ankles and wrists. Apparently, his instructions to the person preparing the body were simply to "take photos of the tattoos". I have now lost that connection to my daughter forever! To add insult to injury, Mr. Lewis did not apologize, but instead tried to blame the person preparing the body. And finally, the most egregious problem I had with Mr. Lewis was that when he filled the remembrance jewelry that we had purchased for my daughter's ashes, he either did not seal one of the pendants or he forgot to fill it altogether. A month later, after wearing it every day, my husband found the pendant was open, so either my daughter's ashes spilled on the ground in an unknown and careless way, or he was walking around like an idiot with an unfilled pendant the entire time. Neither option is acceptable. When it was brought to his attention, Mr. Lewis did not apologize. All he did was send a new pendant with a cap so that we could OPEN UP MY DAUGHTER'S URN AND FILL THE PENDANDT OURSELVES! This is horrible and gut-wrenching. I understand that people make mistakes, but Mr. Lewis did not ever apologize for any of these transgressions. I strongly recommend you do not use this funeral chapel under any circumstances. The only kind person we encountered during the entire process at Lewis Chapel was Melody. read more

My dear wife of 37-years passed away suddenly and unexpectedly recently. I used the Lewis Funeral Chapel in Poulsbo for handling the details of what was without question the single most traumatic event of my 60-years. They handled the basics relatively well, but they outright ignored my VERY specific instructions with regard to our religious requests as practicing Buddhists. At the time of cremation there are important rituals that some Buddhist sects adhere to - they are of great importance in my spiritual life as they were in my wife's spiritual life as well. I specifically asked that they call me at the exact time when the cremation was to occur - I was extremely explicit about this and there was absolutely NO possibility that my instructions were not understood. Lewis Funeral Chapel never called me and the cremation proceeded without my knowledge. Only the next day did they admit their mistake - and they did apologize, but that was/is little consolation for something that was so critical to my spiritual practice. I will be pursuing this matter further, but suffice it to say for the purposes of a review that Lewis Funeral Chapel is NOT attentive to their clients important needs - please consider using another service. These folks are NOT professional and they have deepened my already huge level of grief over the loss of the most important person in my life. read more
