When my husband passed away in May, I had to scramble to find a place to handle the cremation. Buma-Sargeant Funeral Homes was mentioned by several friends and kept coming up in my research. I made the call, and it was definitely the right call. Buma-Sargeant went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and taken care of. My husband was what is called a direct cremation. There is no funeral, memorial or viewing. The interaction with the funeral home is limited. But that never stood in the way of them helping me through a difficult process. I spoke with Jim Burma twice, once before they came for my husband - explaining step by step what to expect when they came to pick my husband up. And again, when a few details needed clarification. He was kind and caring. He never once rushed me or made me feel less of a client because we chose direct cremation. His staff was equally compassionate and professional. When I went to pick up my husband's ashes, I got there far later than I was supposed to and they appeared to be closed. However, I encountered Jim's mother who actually lives in the house. I don't know for sure, but I believe she is retired from the business. That did not stop her from taking the time to bring me my husband's ashes. She also took time out of her own day to talk with me. We shared some of our mutual experiences with the loss of a beloved spouse. She told me about the things that helped her cope. She went above and beyond simple courtesy to a place of genuine compassion. As a retired pastor, I have been on "the other side" of the process when a family loses someone they love. I knew what to expect, but that doesn't change the impact when it is your loved one. My experience, over the years, with funeral homes has generally been positive. But at Buma-Sargeant, being the people who take care of our loved ones on the last day of their life is not a job. It is a calling. And Buma-Sargeant embraces their calling with a grace and compassion that makes the process less devastating. I thank each person at Buma-Sargeant who took good care of me, my husband and my family. Calling them was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Several years ago, my wife and I decided we wanted to be proactive with our final wishes. We wanted to save the burden not only for us, but our family as well. We contacted Betsey Buma who sent Leo Dube to meet with us at our home. Leo was fantastic. He walked us through many options, and we picked the one that fit us best. Unfortunately, my wife passed away this past 29th of December. At the hospital it was such a relief not to have to go through all the hassle dealing with what to do with her remains. I was able to say we have arrangements with Buma Funeral home. The next morning, I contacted Buma Funeral Home. I spoke with Betsey Buma who had me speak with her son Jim. Everything was handled per our wishes. Such a relief!! Every part of our wishes and then some were met. Jim and staff were so helpful every step of the way. Jim went way beyond expectations especially helping with The Veteran's Association on the final location for my wife and my resting place. I cannot find the words to express the care I experienced using Buma Funeral Home! THANK YOU, Jim and Betsey Buma from the very bottom of my heart!

With that said, the…read moreowners of Ginley-Crowley were so very helpful when we needed their services this past week... The directors are James and Robert (I believe). They met my Dad and Brother early on a Sunday morning, and really helped us with every detail imaginable when planning services for our Mother. It's overwhelming to say the least, but they have it broken down for you, like a check list of what to do first, what to do next, etc. I won't get into specifics, but you can't know how much really needs to get done in such a short amount of time until you're planning a wake and funeral. It's like you shift into 'auto pilot' and just do it. It's somewhat of a blur... It's a beautiful facility as well. They helped us tremendously during this very, very difficult time, and I can't thank them enough. I recommend them highly, although I hope you as a reader of this post never have to make a call to them.

Due to the hurricane in FL (where our loved one was living), everything had to be delayed while power was being restored to the area.It took 10 days for our brother's remains to be transferred to Ginley-Crowley. During the waiting time, the funeral home staff guided us through the preparations for his services. Bob Irving was our anchor through it all.We are a large family and he patiently dealt with all sorts of personalities. Our questions and requests were many and often, yet he displayed only kindness (even though we are sure he was exasperated at times it was never exhibited). Everything was seamless due to Bob's meticulous attention to details. We thank all the staff ,at Ginley-Crowely, Medway Funeral Home ,for or all you did to help us through this sad, difficult time. To Bob Irving ,for all you did and who you are ,we say-Thank You! We pray we will not need to plan a funeral for a long time. When we do, we will call Ginley -Crowley in Medway.
