His cousin was a race car driver and relatives and family friends made up the pit crew. That gave us unlimited access to the pit area. Dirt track racing has become a little bit more civilized since the old days. I've seen literally hundreds of fights in the pits! The competition between race car teams was personal and rough and for real! I saw the local great racing stars up close such as Mike Duvall, Freddie Smith, and Bill Blanton and Stick Elliot. These local racing stars are long gone but the memories of them linger. Cherokee Speedway still packs the fans in! Dirt Track racing is becoming a thing of the past and many tracks have permanently closed down.

I finally got to play the course here the other day, so I feel like I can give it a total review…read more The country club is located close to my companies plant in Spartanburg, so we go there a lot for group lunches and meetings. It's a gated community so you can't just swing in, at least I don't think so anyway. Anyway, the most important part of this review is the course! It's a solid challenge, and the greens are in great shape right now. They aerated them within the last few months, so they're looking good now. The front 9 are pretty open, but there are quite a few challenging holes that make you pay if you don't play it safe. The back 9 are a lot tighter and with narrow fairways and a lot of water. Not as many mentally tough challenges, but it keeps you on your toes. As for the clubhouse, you could be forgiven for thinking the country club was a lot older than it is. It's only been around since the 80's, but they've done a really cool job of making the floors and furnishings seem old and worn in, but in a good way. The food, which is served in their restaurant, is decent. A lot of the usual standard items, club sandwiches, hot dogs, etc. They do have some items that are particularly good though, the best one being their Bison Burger, that's the way to go. Anyway, altogether it's a nice place and a good place to ruin a perfectly good walk as they say.

Recently attended a wedding reception and it was awful. A carving station, where the beef was so…read moretough it was almost impossible to cut. Other items on the buffet were not of quality. Sloppily prepared appetizers and how about a party where half the attendees are on the opposite side of the building. The disgusting cobwebs hanging from the chandeliers was a nice touch.

We called that morning and were able to visit at 2:00 PM. They welcomed us and gave us a complete and very informative tour of the farm. We got to meet the alpacas by name and visit the 11-month-old and 4-month-old alpacas with their mothers. We even had the chance to feed and walk with one of them. A huge thank you to the wonderful couple who owns this property for your kindness, patience, and understanding, especially with part of my family who did not speak English, allowing us time to translate. Your property is beautiful, and the alpacas are clearly loved and well taken care of. We will definitely visit again next time we are in this part of the country!

In the fall, there's a Livermush Festival (Mush, Music and Mutts) that is combined with a costume parade for children and dogs/pets.
