We went here for the Saturday Night Lights Oktoberfest night. The event was free and wonderful. The grounds are absolutely stunning and the backdrop of the mountains is amazing! There was live music, German food and pints, carousel rides, and a jumping competition for riders from all over. There are shops and restaurants on the property as well. A lady was painting in what I think was her studio, and all I have to say is WOW!!! We had a lovely time! read more

We drove 40 miles for the drone show on Nov 30, 2024, which was supposed to start at 7:00pm. It was delayed until 7:30, then 8:00 then 8:30. When it didn't happen at 8:30, we left after sitting outside in the cold for 1& 1/2 hours and spending $10.00 to park. When I called to complain, they hung up on me. read more

Had reservations for the 11:30 seating for our Thanksgiving meal today at Compagna Restaurant. The meal was served family style for a table of 4 people. The food was cold. It was not even warm! Participated in a race here so have less experience with the spectators amenities than the participants. The grounds are beautiful, easy access in and out both before and after the race. Parking was nice, the course was a little rocky, staff was responsive to racers needs. Great little spot nestled away on the NC SC border. Large grandstand at the start / finish. While visiting my brother Phil and his wife Gaye in Tryon, I wanted to take them out to dinner. We discussed various places to go, and finally settled on going to Roger's Diner at the Equestrian center. Equestrian Center, I asked? What the heck is an Equestrian Center? They said, you'll see, and that it was only 5 minutes down the road. I asked, "now, are these country minutes, or my minutes"? My brother has a tendency to measure distance in words. He'll say, "over yonder, or just down the hill/road/next bend". I think when he says that, he's thinking like a crow, and how long it would take him to fly there. But that doesn't work right, cause he'd stop along the way to chat up the goings on or' to the next holler, or the latest gossip on the new woodpecker couple. So anyway, after 15 minutes and countless twists and turns on country roads, we arrive at this massive complex. The place is huge, but more on that later. We ambled (as is the way of the hills) our way over to Roger's Diner. It wasn't too busy, so we were immediately seated. Actually, we got to choose where we wanted to sit. After a bit of hem and hawing, we sidled up to a booth, and took our seats. Upon sitting, I wish we would have hawed a bit more, closer to the booth of pretty girls or' yonder. But such has been my life. The menu held what you would expect in the way of diner food. Burgers, fries, chicken things, shakes, and such. I got the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. It was good, and well worth the price. I can't remember what Phil and Gaye got, but it was good enough for them to bring some of it home. Or maybe it was for their dog. Either way, it made the trip home with us, and boy, what a trip it was! After ambling around the complex for 30 or so minutes, (that would be MY minutes) we saw a building off in the distance, and were wondering if it was part of the complex. So we hopped into the All Wheel Drive (this comes into play) Subaru, found a dirt road, and headed to the distant structure. It was still under construction, or the construction was halted because of Covid. It almost looked abandoned. It was a big project just sitting there. Who knows how many hundreds of thousands of dollars were sunk into this thing. But that was for someone else to ponder, we had more pressing business. Gaye says "oh look, I wonder what that is over there "? I said that it looked like a grass runway for small planes. "Let's go see", so off we went. And went we done did. Well, as it turns out, it was a fairway for a golf course! We managed to get ourselves onto a golf course! And us in a Subaru, not a golf cart. Thanks Gaye!! Now how do we get out of here without getting busted? We followed the yellow dirt road of course. It took us up and down and around. The all wheel drive came in handy. Finally it brought us to pavement, and that's when I heard "oh, I know where we are ". Great Gaye, now which road do I take to get us or' yonder! I'm thinking the golf course is now part of the Equestrian center complex, and not in use. I told you that this place is huge. Who knows what that building was/is. Maybe I'll find out next visit. Quick Tip: If you find yourself driving around the outskirts of the Equestrian Center complex, stay to the right, cause that second left is a doozy! read more

We went for the Shadrock Christmas Light show. I love Christmas lights. There was no review for them, so I will only go off of the Equestrian Center, and what I thought about it, not the light show and the production, coordination, staffing of that event. The center is very well maintained as far as bathrooms, the stores, road into the center, restaurants on site. The signage into the facility was very confusing and was not well placed. It took us to a lodge entrance, and the entrance was past that, but we got there at dark and if there was a sign, we didn't see it. The man working at the gates entrance to the lodge was pretty much having to direct the traffic. He was extremely nice. The buildings, parking lots and paths were all nicely taken care of. read more

WOW! What a place! World class competition, restaurants, Tack shops, and so much more. This will be a very important business to our area, as it will bring people from not only from all over the United States, but the world. It is a huge place that is only building by the day. Along with the constant enlarging of the equine rings, they will be building a first class resort. But for now,there are plenty of RV parking and cabins for rent. But what really amazes me about coming here to watch the competitions is there is no entry fee. Tryon Equstrian is going to put Polk and Rutherford Counties on the map! read more

We went for the gladiator polo with our kids. Here's the good: The facilities here are amazing and you can't beat the price - free! There's some cute stores and nice restaurants as well. Here's the bad: The sound system has a terrible delay and it's one big echo chamber. The country music they blast has lots of trailer park lyrics which was not great for families. The announcers for the game were a bit amateur and a little too much of an "Are-Kan-Saw" accent for us to understand. read more

This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see world class horses and riders at the most recent FEI WEG in Tryon! Customer service was outstanding and the event had rules about cancellation due to weather. Spectators purchased tickets knowing that the events could be canceled due to weather or other situations without the possibility of a refund! I've heard of people complaining about this and that's their right, as is the right of the games to set the rules. My event was canceled due to the hurricane as well, but I took it in stride and went to the vaulting instead. I was not disappointed in anyway! I had not seen the vaulting before live and it was absolutely wonderful. The athleticism and skill of these horses, trainers and riders was amazing! Anyone who had the opportunity to experience this caliber of an event in their own backyard should be grateful! I certainly am! Ps. I had the privilege of seeing the Gold Medal Winners!! read more

This is a new facility and it was a great place to see. I had never attended a polo match and I found it to be very exciting. The facility was clean including the bathrooms. There were several arenas but on this day only one was in use. The facility is set to host matches with teams from all over the world in the very near future. If you're in the area and like horses or looking for something different I recommend a visit. The prices are reasonable for food and beverages and is a great place for a family visit. read more

Beautiful venue, overall great time, but be warned that the old woman working the carousel is so shockingly mean to guests that I was taken aback. She is VERY strict about the weight limit, singling people out who appear to exceed 170 lbs in front of everyone and making them get off, and proceeding to ask "do you want me to go get the scale?" when a guest refuted her assumption on their weight. She gave one man the middle finger (in front of a bunch of kids) when he rode the carousel anyways when she told him to get off. Weight limit aside, her customer service skills were just laughably terrible- when someone asked about when the ride closed, she didn't even look up before asking "what does the sign say?" Clearly is just a miserable person, and is really offensive to people who are too big for the ride. Even if you're a stickler for the rules, there's so many nicer ways to go about it. Maybe try that instead of just body shaming adults in front of a crowd. Even the kids mentioned how mean she was. Also - probably best to not flip people off in front of children. I'm clearly leaving this review out of spite, but she also did make a memorably negative impact on the experience of this place. Kindness goes a long way, and she had none to give! read more

Love visiting here. It's closer than you think and not a bad ride from Greenville if you go the backway or the highway. So much is here to take in and I can't wait to check out some polo. I have never seen it before but I'm thinking Gladiator Polo may be the trick. read more

I have been working for Tryon Resort for 3 years. It has been an incredible journey and it's mind boggling to see what has been developed here in such a short amount of time. AMAZING grounds! We came here for the FEI tournaments. Although the center was not complete it was still a beautiful area. The arenas and stadiums were all immaculate. For this facility to only have approximately 18 months to prepare for the games they did an excellent job. This facility is on an old Arnold Palmer golf course. It's already in immaculate condition. With all the rain that came through from Hurricane Florence the drainage system already in place made it less noticeable. Being able to walk the course while watching driving was an incredible experience. Highly recommend going to see some type of competition here. read more

Lousy, lousy customer service! Ordered tix for World Equestrian Games jumping finals on Sunday, September 16. The event was postponed to Monday, September 17, which was fine, but I didn't receive notice until Sunday night at 8:35 that the event was at 10 a.m.! Navigating the sea of dimwitted CSRs they have was excruciating. I demanded a refund and got Visa involved to twist their arms. Nothing being done! read more

Recently visited during the week because family were in town and I wanted to show them this amazing facility. We had lunch at the diner (always delicious!) and just walked around the beautiful grounds. No shows were going on until the weekend, but we had the pleasure of chatting with the talented riders who graciously answered all our questions, letting us pet those magnificent horses and take pictures too. Truly a wonderful resort, adorable country general store (get that apple Cider donut!) And tons of shops worth visiting. High-end merchandise, beautiful quality gifts. Terrible place, terrible management . First off this place is a joke . The staff looked over worked and under appreciated . I asked to speak to a manager and I was told he wasn't even on the property . Then they send over a very nice young lady named natasha, she was the manager at the other restaurant. They didn't even have the tequila they said they did, and my husband wanted a beer they had to go find . For a place thats suppose to be fine dining... its a joke . The food was okay, but we won't be back to that restaurant. Beautiful place and property. For two people that are foodies, it was a real disappointment. read more

Beautiful, breathtaking scenery wraps around all sides of this amazing facility! They have many events with the most gorgeous horses, it truly is a world stage! I can't wait too see more of what they are creating as they grow their already expansive facility. If we are away from Blue Ginger Sushi to long my whole family gets cranky! Trained in Japan, the sushi chef's skill is a quiet, explosion of flavor and intelligence, frankly it's addicting and the fish is freshly delivered from the OCEAN everyday! The Italian restaurant is inviting and comforting, the pasta is delicious! The other restaurant's are good as well and taste like what they are promoting. I love TIEC and so do my children! The facility has such a wonderful variety of wholesome fun for the family and many things are free, like the carousel and on certain days bouncy houses and face painting and actors and jugglers and wonderful side cart, street food! I have always wanted to go see the horses at TIEC, however, this first visit was for Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland. The light show was pretty good, but the means to get to the show and the path to view lights was horrible. The signs off the interstate are unclear. The route to the entrance is literally a huge loop down a rough dirt path. I was very glad we brought the SUV! Don't come here in a nice car... Bring the 4x4. Half of the show was through parking lots that are still under construction, so they were laden with pot holes. The setup of lights started fine, but then spread out way too thin the last half. Also, the entrance price was ridiculously high... $25 per car on a weekday! How much is TIEC charging Shadrack's that they have to charge so much?! (Bristol is a thousand times nicer and way less!) The whole experience was a let-down. It's a distance to drive out in the middle of no where. Not worth it to me. Won't bother to come back for the horses either. read more

AMAZING!! TIEC is the best horse competition I've ever been to. Competing at TIEC made me a better rider and more confident. Showing at TIEC made my horse stronger, braver, and gave him so much experience. They have immaculate arenas with amazing views to watch the competitions. The restaurants are great! I would especially recommend the diner and Legends. Saturday Night Lights will make your experience there just that much better! So fun! You must go to SNL during your stay at TIEC. Definitely would recommend to stay for 2 weeks or more, there's just so much to do! read more

What an awesome experience we had to the Tryon International Equestrian Center for their Saturday Night Lights event. They've clearly thought about all of the details when planning this great event and the best part about it is that it's FREE (for the most part). Parking is limited at the center itself but they do have a shuttle that runs back and forth between a remote parking lot that is maybe a half mile from the center. Both parking and the shuttle are free. Once you make your way into the center with free admission you'll be greeted by a carousel (free), face painting (free), a jumpy house (free), and more than likely a man on stilts. The center opens at 5pm but the horse events dont start until 7pm. I'd encourage you to get there early to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the free kids activities and also grab a bite to eat before the horse events. The stadium is clean and kid friendly. We will definitely be back! read more
