Dr. Greg Oldham did my cataract surgery my outcomes were horrible. He never told me I would be able to see the outside of the IOL, that I would need eye drops the rest of my life, that my night vision would get worse instead of better. To start with I had 20x20 vision. My opinion I probably did not need the cataract surgery. Had and still have billing problem. And they canceled me as a patient with the retina specialist Dr. Ward at the practice that I really needed to see. Due to a previous previously detached retina. I am currently involved in a law suit with Dr. Oldham and Chester County Eye Association. In my opinion find another ophthalmologist there are many others out there. read more

I have been with this practice for many years. My recent appt. was an annual one with both the Surgeon, Dr. Arena, and the Ophthalmologist, Dr. Chu, doctors I have seen regularly. I was truly astonished this time. Let's begin with Dr. Arena. The office was fully mobbed with patients. The nurse called for me more quickly than I anticipated, so I said I wanted to go to the bathroom first. Dr. Arena, who was sitting nearby, told me I should "wait, because they are very busy." So I did what she wanted. Things went downhill from there. I am having problems with the monovision I chose to do for my cataract surgery, where one eye is corrected for near vision and the other for distance vision. Over time, my eyes do not adjust quickly to near or far, so I am getting a lot of blurry vision, and that is making my eyes hurt. I asked if it was possible to surgically remove one lens and go back to near or far in both eyes. Dr. Arena was positively furious with that idea ..." well for that, I would refer you to Wills," and it was said nastily. She told me it was likely the problem was because of my age, but offered no suggestion of a fix and blew me off. When I started to ask about my problem, she pointedly told me (twice) "I am a surgeon, that's my area of expertise." It was delivered in the most arrogant voice I have EVER heard. That voice that says, I am important, " and you are just an old lady who complains. WHOA. A few days later, I went to see Dr. Chu. I thought I would be able to talk to her about this issue. She did my examination for glasses, ignored me when I wanted to talk about my eye problem, and sent me out of the office. That appointment probably took 15 minutes. I suspect 15 minutes is the assigned time for patients in this office. The reality is that this practice has grown too big. GROWING BIGGER IS NOT BETTER, it just generates more money! If you look, you will note that there are far more negative (1) reviews of this practice than good ones. I grant you that people who complain and are more likely to post, but it is still a solid reason to avoid Chester County Eye Care. I will be finding another practice to go to. I have indeed, at my age, turning 80, several different doctors. I have excellent relationships with all of them. Nobody has ever treated me in this manner nor dismissed me like these two did this past week. It's interesting because if you look around that waiting room, you will see a lot of gray-haired folks. I went to urgent care who tried to remove a thorn in my lower eyelid but had difficulty and stated they were not comfortable in removing it so referred me to an eye Dr so I made appt with this provider. I explained the situation and they made a prompt appt for me in 2 days since I was not in any pain. Dr Dang checked me out, and then brought in Dr Oldham for corroboration. After an "extensive exam" they both concluded that I did not have any thorn in my eyelid. In disbelief I left and dismissed it but was unsure of their conclusion. It was plain to me that there was something embedded in my eyelid. After a few weeks I made an appt with my dermatologist. He took one look at it and said "oh, I can see you have something embedded in your eyelid" and proceeded to take out the actual thorn that I complained about in the first place. very disappointed. I'm ok with this message but she was so close to rude in her delivery that I said.. you sound like you don't want our business and she said I'm not saying that I'm saying you can't get an appointment time mid March. If I could rate this office lower than a 1 I would. I have seen 3 doctors from this practice (Chu, McAdams, and Stark). They all were rude and arrogant. Waits in the office are EXTREMELY long. The desk staff is rude and treats you as if they are doing you a favor by accepting your business. The doctors are rude and rush you out of the office, generally without an explanation for issues. When you press for answers they are not afraid to display their irritation. I can't say enough about the horrible service you receive from this practice. I came in with a horrible eye infection that was causing temporary blindness, when I started asking questions, Dr. Stark became increasingly rude. When I noted I felt rushed he responded, "I have already spent more than enough time with you." Further, the office sells contacts so they are slick in how they write your contact prescription. They list a SPECIFIC brand in your prescription which can pigeon hole you into getting contacts from their office. They will give you a hard time about writing a script for brand they do not carry, claiming they "could not fit your for another brand". The truth is they don't CARRY they other brands in their office which is the reason they can't fit you for them. Stay away from this practice. Save yourself time and anguish. I have been using Chester County Eye Care Associates for a few years. I always feel welcomed when I arrive. I have seen two different eye doctors there and both have always been extremely patient and have always taken the time to answer my questions. First few visits were just for exams and now needing surgery for a recent eye problem. I feel comfortable going to either the West Chester or Exton site. The support staff is very friendly. Went there because I needed new glasses. Didn't wait long to be called, which was a nice surprise. Technician was very friendly, and I chose the $40 non-dilation option instead of wearing sunglasses indoors for 5 hours. Other than bright light, didn't hurt at all and well worth $40. Eye doctor was very nice, professional, and knowledgeable, and she was very patient with the 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 procedure that I've always hated. Gave me suggestions for eye drops since I use a computer all day at work. Only negative of my visit is that they no longer have a retail side of the practice that sells glasses. So, I had to go elsewhere to buy my glasses. Other than that, I was happy with the level of service that I received and would recommend them. read more

Not enough negative things can be said about this establishment -- save for the receptionists who have have always been nothing but courteous and understanding. As for the doctors, I have never encountered such abrupt rudeness and incompetence. I was in for an eye infection and was seen shortly before being rushed out without even an explanation of what my eye infection was and a prescription for eye drops which I later suffered a horrible allergic reaction to (and did nothing to resolve my infection). Two weeks later at my follow up, I was seen by a different doctor and any hope of improvement from my last appointment was thoroughly crushed by the rudeness I was met with. I could give this place ZERO STARS for the poor service and unprofessional attitude I received today from after hours emergency, on-call doctor, Dr. Arena. Please do not make the mistake I did by trusting this office with my health care. I went to Chester County Eye this afternoon, August 9, 2018 to see Dr. Stark for an ongoing eye condition that was causing me excruciating pain. His conclusion was to order another oral steroid to help with the inflammation (I just finished the same type of steroid on Monday). I waited a while and never heard from my pharmacy so I called and they never received a new prescription. Dr. Stark must of forgot to put in the order for my prescription. Keep in mind they have my pharmacy information because I just got a prescription from them less than two weeks ago with no problem. Same doctor. Same office. Now, the office has closed, so I called the after hour service at Chester county eye care and spoke with the phone operator, I let her know what happened and she said she would page the on call doctor (Dr.Arena) and have her call me immediately, I waited another hour and called back to let them know I did NOT receive a phone call from the doctor so she said she would page her again. THREE HOURS TOTAL go by and once AGAIN I called back the phone operator to let them know I still have not received a phone call from the doctor! She tells me that the doctor has ordered the prescription an hour ago to the pharmacy, no one could call me to tell me this ?! Not the operator or doctor! I call my pharmacy and they never received anything so now I am upset, still in so much pain AND ONCE AGAIN call back the operator to let her know that I STILL have not heard from this doctor and I do not have the prescription at my pharmacy. 3 hours and 35 mins later the doctor finally calls me back and speaks to me SO rudely and unprofessional (DR. ARENA). She acted annoyed at me. I couldn't believe she was speaking to a patient who is in pain the way that she was. Not once did she ask me how I was feeling or apologize for taking so long to call me back!! She tells me she ordered my prescription to some pharmacy that I never heard of or been too in a town 25 minutes from me! I don't know where that confusion came from because If she would of took the time to look at my previous prescriptions and file - then she would of seen what pharmacy I go too! Regardless, she should of never spoke to me the way that she did. I will be calling the office manager tomorrow to file another complaint about how unprofessional this matter was handled and how rudely this doctor spoke to a patient. read more

If I could give lower than a one star rating I would. This was the most unprofessional Eye Doctor office, frankly medical office, I have ever visited. The day I visited I was rushed through the office and treated with little regard. Their computer systems were down that day and all of my receipts had to be mailed to me. I understand technology complications, but the front desk workers made no effort to make me feel welcome nor cared for. Finally they overbilled and overcharged me for a number of procedures that I did not ask for nor did I know that I would be charged for. Otherwise I wouldn't have consented to those procedures. And when it came to me calling the billing department, it took nine months for me to finally receive a call back. Nevertheless I was sent monthly bills for the ridiculous charge. Even still once the charge was discussed with the office manager, I was still treated with disregard and disrespect. I would not recommend this doctors office to anyone. I saw Dr Chu for a number of years and my prescriptions always seemed a little too strong. It wasn't until I switched to a different practice that I learned all my prescriptions were too strong. I was constantly angered by their obscenely incompetent front desk (very rude and seemingly genuinely stupid women, both in Exton and in West Chester), and AFTER I received a botox suggestion from them in person and in the mail, I started looking for another doctor. But before I found one, Dr Arena totally screwed up my husband's eyes. Both of them. She was defensive and took no responsibility for placing lenses that caused him to see gigantic halos. Short story: after he had the lenses removed and replaced with the lenses he had originally researched and requested, he is fine. This is only after 6 eye surgeries, countless time spent being desolate because his vision was compromised, suffering a lower quality of life, and spending time trying to find a doctor that was competent and an actual caring responsible doctor and human being, 2 years later, he got his life back. She was horrible to him, medically and personally incredibly rude. I hope no one else suffers from her supposed treatments and seeks better doctors. read more

I was just turned away from the office because I have an exclusively breastfed infant who can't be left in anyone else's care (she hasn't yet taken a bottle). In this entire ordeal, I've been to many doctor offices with her, careful to leave my other child in someone else's care to respect policies, but being told to leave the office because of a baby (still in a carrier) who needs me is absolute discrimination!!!!!! I am LIVID!!! I've never liked the office staff there and my appointments take at least twice as long (pre-COVID) as my previous office. Then after this issue today, the office manager was rude to my husband when he called, having the audacity to tell him that other patients thanked them for turning me away (BTW, there was only one other person in the office). I've had negative experiences for years with this place and this set me over the edge. Never in a million years would I think a doctors office would discriminate against a mom with a nursing infant. My wife had eye surgery in October 2018. She had swelling of the retina in January and was prescribed medication to reduce the inflammation. The medication prescribed was out of stock due to production issues at the manufacturer. The pharmacy tried contacting the West Chester office for 2 days (left messages because no one seems to answer the phones there). I had to intervene by contacting the appointment desk (after several more calls) to get a live body to find out why no one called the pharmacy back. After finally getting a live body I was told they could not find a technician but they would leave a message with them so they can follow up with the Doctor (who is in another location today). This was the most thorough eye examination I have had in a very long while - and I left understanding what I can do to optimize my eye care.
