Their images have a cinematic quality to them - going through the final photos felt like watching a movie - and each photo captures the details _and_ the emotions of the day. Unfortunately, since then she's been so busy it has impossible to get a hold of her. We purchased a package of 5 sessions (maternity, newborn, 4 months, 8-9 months, and 1 year) and paid in advance. We struggled to schedule the 6 months session and then were not able to schedule the following sessions. My daughter is 19 months old and she still owes us two more sessions. I've given up at this point - no method of contact works - I've tried emailing, calling, texting and FB Messenger - she just doesn't respond. I'm very happy with the photos we got from the sessions we had with her, but very disappointed at how unprofessional she has been in following up on her contract. I would recommend not paying up front if you work with her, just to protect your investment in case she does not follow through. She has had a lot of challenges in her personal life, so that may the cause, but I still think it's unacceptable not to respond. If she is unable to meet, issuing a refund would have been a courteous gesture.

On the day of the event she showed up early, was great with the communications and was super patient with our general milling about - this was an informal event, more of a documentary photographic shoot than a formal shoot with lots of poses. Joyce seemed to understand the feeling that we were going for with our wedding and could answer every one of my photo-knowledgable wife's questions about their approach to photography. It was also important to us to know that we'd have two photographers for the wedding to allow us to capture both of us prior to the ceremony and Joyce and Randy provide that. They were exactly what you'd want on the day of the wedding: non-intrusive. Having just now received the final photos from the day, it was clear that they were there for many moments that we were pleasantly surprised by and captured all the important pieces without fail. Also, we weren't keen on the idea of too many posed formal pictures and they made that part of the day quick and painless. There were only two reasons that we gave them four stars instead of five. First, and this one serves as more of a warning to be specific in your needs as a potential customer, we didn't get as many still life pictures of the event as we would have liked. While it's typical that the bride and groom don't get to eat a lot, we're pretty sure there was a lot of beautiful food there and we were surprised not to see any of it in the photos. Second is that the engagement photo session that was included in the package was a bit concerning for us. We picked a location that had lots of variety and lots of different lighting situations and when we received the photos we became very concerned about their ability to ensure proper lighting conditions on our faces on the day of. However, once we discussed this with them and they let us know the difference between what they did on the test shoot day versus the day of, we were satisfied. That satisfaction proved true when Randy, because he knew it meant a lot to us, took test pictures of every important image to check the lighting before moving on. We would definitely recommend J. Perlman and R. Lutge to anyone getting married in the San Francisco Bay Area.
