There aren't very many options in Pacific City where full service plain and simple staples and groceries are concerned. This place reminded me of the small grocery store my family frequented when i was a child many years ago. Chester's is a great, slightly small, full service market with prices that are not sky high. The produce section was actually very well stocked, as were the meat and seafood areas. In short, my grand daughter and i found everything we needed and didn't have to leave town to do so. The store was clean, and well stocked and organized. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. It was very easy to find, and the large parking lot made it easy to get in and out of. read more

Good local market, they have most of the basic/regular needs. Also beer, wine, and some over the counter medications (and T-shirts!) I wouldn't say it's well-stocked, or super clean, or gourmet by any means. The aisles are crowded, the check-out lines aren't the best designed (they are right as you enter/exit, but also right by produce, and aisles people are trying to shop within. I would say if you need something, there's a good chance they *may* have it, which is a good thing considering any "big" grocery stores are a good clip away. read more

I love supporting small businesses when i'm on little trips with my friends but I fear I won't be returning to this market, especially from one of the workers. She followed us around the store and made comments about everything we had or were looking at. She made comments about our age which thank you that I look young but you didn't have to be rude about it. And as we were trying to figure out if we had everything she said "Wow three carts for the three of you that's kind of sad" then we made faces at each other and talked about it cause that was just rude and out of pocket she said go cry about it. I would love to come back and shop but the hostility of all of the workers was just unprofessional and plain out rude. The prices were fair for the location and they had everything we need just very uncomfortable place to shop so i'll give 1 star for that. read more

Nice local market. They'll have most of your basic needs. Friendly workers on the aisles working their freight load, chatting with the customers and helping them find what they're looking for. Prices are a little bit high, but not too bad. read more

This is a great stop in Pacific City. A decent-sized store in town. It may be the only show in town; I'm not sure. We stopped in while we were camping nearby to get a few things and a couple of DVDs. (More like glamping for those keeping score). They have all the regular items you would find in a grocery store but a few extras like camping supplies, sweatshirts, jackets, and the all-important DVDs. The convenience of this place causes it not to be the most inexpensive place you've ever been to but usually, if you're there you are willing to pay it rather than to drive into a larger town. A nice stop and one that I make frequently when in the area. I'll definitely return again for a necessary or forgotten item. Check them out. read more

Produce is old and browning everyday! Meat is brown! Not good refrigeration or freezer system. Rats and disgust. Get it together. For the prices you charge you should be a Whole Foods. Instead it's worse than Grocery outlet. read more

We visit Tillamook and this side of the Oregon Coast quite a bit. Usually it's a day trip but a couple of times a year we like to camp out there. While we are our near Pacific City we always visit Chester's Thriftway. The store has a nostalgic 90's feel to it. It isn't very big but has all of the essentials of a normal grocery store. The prices are comparable to Safeway or Fred Meyers. Some of the items are a bit more expensive though. This is most likely due to the store being in a small town. They have a great deli where you will find fried chicken and Jojos as well as other deli goodies. The workers are friendly and easy going. The Thriftway had a very small town/ rural feel to it. I always make it a point to stop here when we are out this way. read more

It's the local food store. Sorry it's not a market of choice! When you wanna get away from Portland you encounter the people that live and support The coastal economy. They only get sun for a few months of the year and there's not too many amenities so more power to them for waiting around to get you JoJos! read more

This is a nice convenient grocery store with a small deli, meat and seafood department. They even have roasted chicken for around seven dollars. They have a good selection at reasonable prices and I even scored a large powerade for 69 cents to satisfy my thirst. This is the largest and best stocked of the markets/stores in Pacific City. The store is located in the North End of town and is technically a Cloverdale address. If you need video rentals they have those right across the street at the fishing supply store. read more

They've got pretty much all you need if you're vacationing and don't bring anything. Food and beverage and a liquor store, and some other supplies as well. We didn't need much this last trip but we'll definitely have to try some of the produce and other treats on our upcoming trip to PC. It's a little crowded inside, as they have tons of groceries packed into a little place. I guess it all depends on if other shoppers are feeling polite that day, but you can't really blame the store for those people. read more

I went to this store the 27th and this big white guy that works there, he looked older and he showed very creepy vibes he stopped me in my track and he singled me out ( I'm 17) and grabbed my hand and asked me if I live here or if I'm visiting and what my name is so it was a very uncomfortable situation plus it's covid your workers should not be touching people. As a young girl I felt very harassed. read more

Friendly, busy market at the beach with a full deli and bonus liquor store on premises. The only consistent problem is their freezer section, it never keeps food completely frozen, a real bummer when you want to buy ice cream. Some really good specials that sometimes beat the big name stores. read more

Hometown resident of PC - Horrible experience from "Barb" and Chester's. Buying groceries (milk, s'mores, cereal, eggs...) and beer for the week. My 20 and 19 year old kids with me. "Barb" demanded to see all ID's ... my kids just off the beach and dinner at Pelican with me and obviously, after surfing did not have their wallets. I'm 51 yrs old and a $9/hr employee just lost our business for all household, grocery and beer business FOREVER !! Clearly, I rolled the cart back into the store to a smirking employee and purchased NOTHING! In the future, We will purchase at Cape Kiwanda or travel to Tillamook or Lincoln City for all our groceries and encourage all our friends in PC to do the same. In addition, 3 months ago we called the manager to let them know we saw RATS scurrying thru the back aisles of the store. He admitted the issue and they were taking care of it ... NOT, saw them again a month ago!! Again, We encourage and recommend all residents and tourists to avoid Chesters - absolutely arrogant and horrible customer service and overall cleanliness of store. Building relationships and superior customer service is what should be expected from a "community minded" business !! The only liquor store in town that closes late at 10pm. Worth going to especially if you're looking to grab any additional groceries and supplies. read more

Great little grocery store located in Pacific City. We stayed 10 days on the Nestucca River. They have everything you need with really good prices. They have a liquor store inside that carries everything and the prices are exactly the same as our store in Tualatin. They have a wonderful vegetable and produce section and when we were there they had a huge tent with the the stuff outside. Great little hot food section with yummy chicken, fresh seafood, good cuts of meat. Redbox inside and really friendly people! read more

We love this little grocery. The employees don't change so you get to know them. Joe is great. We always say hello to him. They have a great selection of all the basics, although we would like to see snow crab legs on sale here. They have a great wine/spirits section and a movie rental box. We would also like to see them switch out some of the mass produced foods with some high end artisan products and quality cheeses. People prefer small, local foods these days. Great spot. So glad I found it while we were staying at a cabin close to Pacific City. Great staff, killer smoked fish, hot deli and fresh produce. Way better than what is on the main drag in Pacific City, lovely folks. They also have a bottle return if you're on vacation and want to make some nickels. read more

Well stocked, excellent variety for a small local store, even for the obscure things I wouldn't expect to get here. Prices are fair (everything is more expensive on the coast) and sales are good. It gets pretty wiped out on a summer weekend so there's your warning. Deli chicken is really delicious - some of the best I've had. read more

For a small grocery store they do a great job. Good selection and the staff is very friendly. Prices are fair and quality food is decent.

Really like this store, very clean, good produce/meat/seafood though selection is limited in the meat case. Reasonable prices too. The thing I most look forward to however is their chicken strips and jo jo potatoes. They make them in the meat department using fresh boneless chicken breasts that they first marinate, batter dip, then deep fry. Since it's so labor intensive and made in batches call first to make sure they have them as this isn't a fast food joint, and sometimes people will pre-order the entire batch so make sure they are available. One tip: make your own ranch dressing or buy some better stuff in the refrigerated section as the little pre-made shelf-stable containers (Kraft or something similar) they give you are NOT any good. We actually look forward to eating this stuff more than just about anything in the local restaurants. I did see in the Yelp photos they have chicken on a stick, will have to check that out. Perhaps the owners should consider starting a side business or a take-out window just for their chicken and jo jos! read more
