a gas station with a truck parked in front of it

Pump. Eat. Drink... A one stop shop for day to day, week to week or getaway gas and go... The Cheveron in Tarzana that sits across from the 101 east on ramp near Tampa Ave, but actually off Ventura Blvd and Vanalden (a street you've never heard of) is a great place to fuel up your whip or yourself. I often stop in for a snack, beverage or minty freshness... they do have a full service sandwich, hot dog, burrito situation here sorta like 7eleven but more deli like with someone working that counter inside and a separate counter for mart purchases, gas payment and/or misc items. Chill station clerks who are almost too laid back at times which is mostly a good thing... but once or twice I've been rung up double for the same item(s) which is an easy fix... I usually ask for receipts here just in case. Some tables and benches out front with umbrellas make for a nice spot to cool off if on foot or in need of a quick rest. Good amount of room for large vehicles and trucks... the pumps off Vanalden seem to have the most room and space... never seen it too crazy busy here mainly because of the above average gas prices being so close to a freeway entrance... however you can save a little with your Safeway/Vons/Pavilions club cards... which counts for something, right... They're currently redoing the carwash but should be up in a few months... Restrooms are in deccent shape in case you're wondering...

When you're literally running on empty, and gas prices are sky high, sometimes you just have to go to the closest spot. This was the case the other evening when we were in Tarzana. We'd come from a meeting at the Tarzana Community Center, and this Chevron station is very close by. We were able to gas and go quickly. The location is utilitarian; no fancy landscaping or water features here. I didn't have reason to go into their food mart, but noting that they do have one available.

After dark it is not a pleasant peace to go to. They wait for you at the door asking for money. Not a pleasant experience. Now I feel for them, for anyone who needs to ask for money. But I also wouldn't recommend coming here after dark. And if you do stick to the gas area and away from the convince store. Amazing location, ok gas prices.

The man with the mustache makes a point to stare at me the entire time I pump gas. The entire time. Why

Best gas station tacos I've ever had. The lamb is dynamite. Seriously. This gas station has fire lamb tacos.

The freshly prepared meats (birria and barbacoa are standouts) used in the oversized burritos to the delicious tacos abd tamales are top notch.

I also loved the new self check-in pad at the pharmacy -- no need to give your information verbally anymore, it's all electronic now. Such a convenient upgrade! I also want to give a big thank you to Josh (I hope I have the name right), the security guard. There was a lot of theft going on for a while, but since Josh has been there, he's always doing a great job, and his customer service is 5-star. Please give him some recognition for helping keep the store safe and enjoyable to shop in. To the managers: keep up the good work, and thank you for being there for the public. Tarzana CVS gets 5 stars, and security is #1. The female security guard is also always very nice and attentive. Thank you again!

You've seen the neon that the Tarzana CVS pharmacy is open 24 hours?…read more Don't believe it. Consider it closed between 1 and 4:15 a.m. I've gone in twice around 1:40 a.m. and found the shutters closed. On the first occasion three or four people were waiting for 2:10 a.m., when a sign says someone will be back. My visit wasn't urgent, but I wonder if some of those people were coming from ER. Supposedly, I learned on my second visit (thinking the first closure was an aberration), the pharmacy closes from around 1 to 2:30, reopens for a half-hour, then closes again from 3 to 4 for computer update. Supposedly they reopen at 4, but I remember a time when it was closer to 4:15 before my shuttle-banging got them to open. (I repented my annoyance when I talked with the attendant.) I don't know how they rationalize such dismal service -- if the 1 a.m. closing is for lunch, why can't they have lunch at 3 when they're forced to close for computer update? -- but I do know my current impulse is to seek another pharmacy, even if it forces me to venture out on hot days to get in long air-conditioned lines. PS: I suppose some attendants will say "I'll starve if I have to wait until 3," but I've learned that even a cup of water or a quick nibble of something will appease the hunger. The delay, for me, makes lunch all the better.

The parking lot is teeny tiny, but parking isn't really an issue. The interior is clean and spacious, with walls lined with booze and isled aisles stocked with standard convenience store fare. I hope they have security cameras, because the staff appears to consist of one guy at the register. This one guy was helpful, though, offering guidance when I walked in and thus dispelling some of the convenience store feel of the place. I wanted a nice cabernet sauvignon and he pointed me in the right direction. Wines are divided by type, and prices are prominently displayed. Some bottles are accompanied by tags of special recommendation, complete with tasting notes for shortcut shopping (my choice, a Sterling Vineyard 2004 going for $29.99 - quick internet search says this is more or less a standard price - was fruity and would pair with most cheeses and strong lamb and beef flavors). This isn't a destination shop by any means, but it's got a reasonable selection of alcohol (besides wine, they carry plenty of beer and all your standard liquors) and a friendly if meager staff. Sketchiness factor is extremely low, and yes, bless them, I got carded. I approve.
