The smoothies here are actually really fresh, flavorful, and worth coming back for. But I was honestly surprised they wouldn't let me add a banana to one of the smoothies. Had to stop by to place an order for a party. Can we say, 50 pieces of fried chicken. The price is really good. Total came up to 46.00 with tax which is good. Not only that, we would stop by here now and again for some shopping. The hot deli station has a very variety of cooked items. Chicken, pork, rice, beans, sides, whatever you want. There's also a sushi counter where the rolls are made fresh daily. Juice bar right in the middle. It's a pretty big hot deli station with loads of premade dishes. Butcher section also has a big selection of meats. So many to choose from and it's alway fresh every time we stop by. Fresh from counter and package items. Don't forget the ceviche station when you're here. Produce are good with loads of items to choose from. The bakery is quite big as well with everything. Cakes, cookies, breads, pastries and so on. I also noticed that in the corner of the produce and bakery, there's a cute little candy store section. The displays were so cute with loads of Hispanic candies and toys. So cute. Isles are wide and they have pretty much everything. Some things do cost more than your regular supermarket which I was surprised about. Parking, it could be busy as the main lot isn't that big. Vallarta Supermarkets is my go to for groceries. This Vallarta is close to work and i love it because it is so clean and well stocked. They have beautiful Big Pumpkins. The meat and produce is so fresh at this store everything you see you want to just take home. Today i am here for a BIG party we will be having and we got the weekly specials by mail. The 2L sodas are on sale and that's exactly what we need. When i arrived i went straight to the manager to ask if there was a limit to how many we can purchase. With a BIG smile she said : "NO, there is no limit to how many you can purchase". YAY! i made my purchase with such ease. Thank you Vallarta in Van Nuys. read more

This is a super nice Vallarta. It seems like they either opened or renovated recently. It's really modern and clean inside. I love the fresh hot food area they have and the tamales on tap. They also have clean restrooms for customers which is nice. It's fun looking around and getting some pan dulce or some fresh pico de gallo. They even have an area where employees are making fresh guacamole. That's honestly incredible and wonderful. read more

Back in LA for a visit and a must-stop is Vallarta for our Mexican fix. While prices have gone up, the quality is still great, especially the chili rellenos. Formerly you could order a relleno plate with beans and rice for under $8.00. That's the price now sans the 2 sides. The tacos and carnitas also are tasty and worth a try. I love coming here for produce, much better prices than American grocery stores for a lot of items! It was very hot this day so I went to the Agua Fresca station at their little food court and got a watermelon Agua Fresca. I ordered a medium but was given and charged for a large. I am honestly impressed on how clean, organized and well stocked everything is. I stopped first thing in the morning on my way to work to get some tamales and a fresh squeezed juice. The selection of tamales was amazing. I loved how fresh and hot the tamales were. I also grabbed a juice and I loved that I was able to pick the items I wanted inside of it. After several visits, there seems to be a lack of care at this store and not so much a fan of their rotisserie chicken at all. It not a hit or miss....it's miss miss miss. Their rotisserie chicken is getting worse and consistently dry and salty -- both in the hot self at the front AND in the back in the prepared foods section. I had to toss the broth because it turned dark brown and salty. I buy whole chicken to make broth. I am convinced their rotisserie chicken is old and they have the worst rotisserie chicken in LA. It's so salty, dry and inedible. I tried to rescue it by boiling it and it was still salty and dry. Their produce section looks pretty sad these days compared to other grocery stores like Super King or 99 Ranch...or even Food 4 Less. I wish Northgate Markets would open one of their stores in the Valley similar to their lively food court in Costa Mesa. I would rather shop at comparable sized Northgate Markets for better tortillas, prepared foods, and produce. Note to self: Avoid Vallarta rotisserie chicken and head to other grocery stores for it. I am not sure who makes it best probably Gelson's or Whole Foods, but you will be paying a little more. For this low quality, maybe head to Amazon for $6 for a whole chicken. Food 4 Less or Walmart might be options or Ralph's for something else to try. Even Jons might be better, but it's hit or miss. My favorite rotisserie chicken is in Reseda at Listo El Pollo for flavor and consistency or maybe Zankou for the garlic paste with their chicken. read more

It's very hard for me to write this but I feel that I had to say something. I went to Vallarta to go buy their homemade rice & beans. I ordered it because I wanted to eat it with the chicken mole that I had made at home. I was very disappointed with the frijoles de la olla that I had ordered because they were not fully cooked. The beans were hard and not cooked throug enough. I have ordered them in the past and they are very good but this time someone dropped the ball and did not to a good job with them. Also the same thing with the rice, usually I really enjoy Vallartas rice but there again it was not cooked thoroughly. I'm not sure if I want to go back. : ( read more

They have a wide variety of Mexican staples like chiles, bread, tortillas, sweets etc. we usually come here for their meat. The marinated chicken and beef flap is our usual go to. We also love the bakery section. The sweet breads and bolillo are pretty good. I think the real winner here is their tres leches cake. I had their cake for a party and they said they only needed a one day notice but I have them two days lol. Everyone at the party loved the cake. They kept asking where it was from and they were surprised to find out that it was from Vallarta. Personally I like the classic flavor, but they also have strawberry and mocha. If you're in the area definitely check them out. They also sell hot food like carnitas, chicharrones, tamales, fresh guac and agua fresca. read more

No review? Inconceivable! This Vallarta has been open for a while, a much larger substitute for the Victory-Woodley branch that closed. Not only is the store larger, but the parking lot is too. The prices are no longer as low though. There has been some additions and improvements: Horchateria! They have an horchateria and it is large and I love it! They have party size. It's not watered down. Super delicious. They sell sushi in the deli too?!?! Yes! Their Guacamole is generous, tasty and well-priced. They still sell the giant chicharones. The salsa selection is great. Their Tres Leches cake is still delicious and a great deal. You choose your cake at the bakery and then they give you a sticker and then you pay at the front and then they bring your cake to you. The bolilos are fresh and cheap!! read more

Absolutely love this supermarket. Huge tortillas for my breakfast burritos, quesadilla cheese, and chorizo. They have all kinds of ready made tamales and tacos and some delightful beans, rice, guac, and pico de gallo amongst many other goodies. Each aisle has something fun and tasty. I stumbled this location by accident. Less cars on the parking lot. Cool!!! It means not a busy time of the day. Upon entering, I was in awe. It's like you're entering a Gelson's or Whole Foods Market in a posh area. The store is well lit, big signs that even "blind" people can see, and salespeople greet you with a smile. Especially the fresh produce section. Low prices, high quality, and of course, so many Mexican products. They have tables inside to dine in and self checkout. Just bought carne asade meat and flanken ribs about 4 pound each and almost 14 a pound and guess what had to to throw it away ! The meat was disgusting it was so rubbery and had so much fat that it was impossible to eat ! The customer service and the management has issues that need to be looked into. When checking out, they scanned everything and bagged everything. Please tell me why this "manager" frantically ran through the parking lot yelling ma'am! Ma'am did you pay for 2 strawberries! I looked at her confused cuz I just spent $200 on groceries, she asked for the recipe and went thru the whole thing just to find out that they charged me for 1 pack strawberries... so she took the other pack away from me and went back to the store. That is crazy to risk your LIFE for strawberries... now I'm a nice lady but what if I wasn't, she was willing to take a hit for a pack of strawberries. So....the positive the store is new and clean...some of the staff are nice but when it comes to ordering food not so nice. The staff making your food think people don't understand what they are sayings. Dude was talking about me in Spanish in front of me. I think he was made that he couldn't read and made my order wrongs Some great sales, but it is expensive overall. They are also slow in the cake department. My cake was suppose to be ready and it's 45 minutes late. I am going to be late to my kids party because i trust them to be on time. This review is mostly for the desserts/baked goods that they offer. I moved near here, and I was interested in trying out the variety of sweets here. My favorites were the cappuccino tres leches and canesta de crema. The chocoflan was good, but wish it was more flan to the cake ratio, and the 4 leches cake was decent too. On the other hand, the flan cup (too gelatinous rather than creamy), the packaged milhojas (too sweet/marshmallow), and the churro (very stale) were disappointing. I also really like that they have a reduced price section where you can find things that are about to expire. I tried a few snacks and candy bars that I normally wouldn't buy. read more

The staff needs a little help. They have really tight security for tortillas and chips. Like it is a little over board. They are always stocked they always have it. If you know what I mean. It is clean and the prices are fair. But the staff are rude. You ask to use the restroom. Are you a Vallarta Customer (Bags in my hand) "Yes, I am. . ." They reply "Yeah it's in the corner" You get to the bathroom and there is a code. Why didn't you tell me the code if I Just asked to use the restroom? You start shopping and security have followed me around two times. Why? One time they asked if I was going to pay for that When I just left the register ? ? ? Huh? Today I shopped at this location and I witnessed some of the employees in the meat counter being rude to non Spanish speakers their quality of costumers service is non existent, to the short woman who is behind to counter if YOU don't want to call the numbers in English for those who don't speak Spanish have someone else do it or learn English. I'm not sure how people made reviews on this location when it just opened a couple months ago. I think some people have confused the location with the one on victory. So just keep that in mind when you look at reviews. This being a brand new Vallarta, it's beautiful! The colors are vibrant and inviting. They have everything clearly labeled and the service counters (meats, cheese, salsas, tortillas, bakery, hot kitchen) were functioning at the speed of light. Usually going to Vallarta you have to wait at least 20 min to get meat because there are so many people also waiting, but not here. Maybe because it's new, or maybe because the have more employees but it's great. The kitchen was also a breeze to go through. I was able to order a carnitas combo to take home and had it bagged and ready within 10 min. Aside from the huge variety and options they also have a lot of checkout lanes as well as about 12 self checkout counters. I was able to get in and out in 30 min total. Which for a Vallarta is unheard of! Parking also was a non issue, since this was an old toys r us there is plenty of parking all around. Which is nice. I think this location is going to be thee location I come to from now on because it was such a great experience. If you've never shopped at a Mexican market, this one is very "beginner" friendly as everything has English translations next to it. A true gem read more

I will always have a place in my heart for Vallarta. I always visit here when I am planning a party or cooking a large meal. The produce is so fairly priced and they have an organic section as well! The produce is always fresh and they always have the things I can't find at Trader Joes or ralphs. When we have bbqs, I always buy the pre-marinated taco meat and it's always a hit. The deli is HUGE too! Every cut of meat possible and there are always specials. They have a whole deli counter dedicated to cheese. Be still my beating heart. I love going here and watching them make the homemade tortillas...it doesn't get any fresher than THAT! Bye bye mission tortillas...hello Vallarta tortillas! I love the homemade tortilla chips here too. Such a big bag and they taste just like the ones at an authentic Mexican restaurant. They have a great selection of beer and alcohol, homemade cakes and pastries, and PINATAS!!! I usually stop here to get my firewood before a camping trip (the best price by far). The staff is always friendly and the store is always clean. It gets pretty packed at times, so try to go on off hours! The parking lot specifically at the Victory location can be a bit of a mess, but I always end up finding a spot. Don't forget to grab something delicious from their hot food bar too!
