We definitely got an entree to share between our group of three afterwards, but thanks to the food tour we knew where we wanted to go fairly quickly. We told her we were planning a picnic for the next day and not only did she tell us about Grandville Island and it's amazing market, she handwrote us a shopping list on what items to get for an amazing picnic(it was delish). - The food was awesome. We visited four places and each was pretty good. My favorite was the Meat and Bread sandwich. As someone who is trying to give up pork (and failing miserably) I just want to point out that two our of the four places had pork dishes, so if you have dietary needs/preference, let them know ahead of time so they can pick items to accommodate you (they partner with 8 different restaurants so there are plenty of food options). I also loved that many of the restaurants they choose partner with local farms. - My hubbie and I were lucky that we had an awesome group and everyone was super friendly and lovely. The bad: None! Final verdict: Will try to downtown when (not if) I return to Vancouver.

We met our guide, Cassandra, as well as the other two people on the tour at the Waterfront train station. Our first stop - Rogue Kitchen and Bar - was at the station and then we walked several blocks down to "Blood Alley" for a "wine and cheese" tasting at Salt. That was followed by Caribbean cuisine at Calabash, and finally, modern Chinese food at Bambuddah. All of the tastings were paired with alcoholic beverages, or non-alcoholic drinks upon request. 1. Rogue Kitchen and Bar 3 local beers - red truck lager, fat tug IPA, and blue buck pale ale Fried Brussels sprouts Bang bang chicken Lobster mac and cheese 2. Salt tasting room Three wines or specialty fizzes (orange, guava, and black currant) Goat cheese, organic honey, sicilian salami, dried cherries, corned beef, and mustard. 3. Calabash Ginger beer, rum, nutmeg cocktail Chicken skewers, veggie/chicken/beef patties, plantain chips 4. Bambudda Tsui Hang which is a cold tea made with Budweiser syrup, iron buddha tea, and moondog bitters Chicken skin, duck bun and cherries, and rice pudding with banana puree, pineapples, and almonds. Although we had a nice time and great company, this tour wasn't the best value. It was very expensive - $105 CAD - as far as food tours go and there was little more to this 3-hour tour than just going from place to place to eat (and drink). Most tours include more information on the surrounding area, discussion (or tasting) of the local cuisine, and perhaps a chance to meet the chefs or to learn about the restaurants. Also, I think that the price should be cheaper for people who do not partake in the alcoholic offerings. So, -1 star for the value and -1 star for the guide.

She was funny, informative, and overall a great person.she is also kind, think of the people around us that might over hear her on sensitive subjects. Also joking around on the riot explanations was very nice. 10/10 recommend especially if you're in Vancouver for a couple days.

We met our tour guide, Ali at the designated time (11am) at the designated place, and 20 or so of us enjoyed an incredibly interesting walking tour of Chinatown. There is no way we would have gotten the feel for this city had we not taken this tour. Several folks were repeat tour guy visitors, so they must have enjoyed those as well. Our group had folks from several countries. It is a relaxed tour at a pace that is just right...not too fast and not too slow. Seriously, just right! And absolutely everyone in our group was happy to hand over generous thank you tips. Well-deserved. Ali was kind enough at the end of the tour to guide anyone who wanted dining suggestions or directions. For us, he was even kind enough to let us walk along with him since we were heading in the same direction. As a result, we were fortunate enough to get an extended tour, as he remained a wealth of Vancouver info as we went along. Highly recommend!

Anyhow, a gazillion years ago, when I lived in Boston, I SO wanted to visit a cranberry bog. I am fascinated by how these ruby-colored berries are grown, I am fascinated by the bogs, and I love the whole seasonal nature of the fruit (i.e., usually cooking and consuming them starting in the fall, at the onset of the autumnal and winter holidays, - typically a celebratory, happy time. For me, at least, these fruits have a strong association with the holiday season, with family and family gatherings, and traditional holiday foods). I never got to a bog in New England, and I figured I missed my chance to ever visit one. That is, until I moved to Vancouver and learned there were cranberry bogs in BC. And then I saw advertised a cranberry festival in Langley, and a self-guided tour of a real cranberry bog there. And even better: you could add on to your admission ticket a "plunge" into the bog! And my kid was as jazzed as I was to go, to learn about the growing and harvesting of cranberries and to take the plunge! It wasn't cheap but, hey, this was something on my bucket list for decades, and there was no way I wasn't going! It was worth every penny. My kid and I had SO much fun, and we also learned a lot about cranberry farming. The Bog-Riverside farm was great: easy to find (super close to historic Fort Langley and the downtown Langley area), free parking, the cutest retail store selling all sorts of gourmet cranberry treats (jars of sauces and chutneys and jams, donuts and tarts and pastries with cranberries, and BOG merchandise like t-shirts and hats, and more. You can also pick up lots of free cranberry recipe cards and magazines showcasing local farms and attractions. Oh, and they also have great coffees here too!), and all the folks working here were super friendly and nice. The self-guided tour was extremely educational, and also quite well organized, with easy-to-follow maps to the farm given to you at check-in, and various posts along the way with QR codes, linking you to audio files describing what you are seeing IRL. (The tour itself is not that long, or far in distance. My kid and I did it within an hour. You could spend longer if you want, but it's do-able within 30 minutes, too. Be sure to wear shoes that you don't mind getting muddy FYI!). Part of the tour is inside a building with an old, wooden sorting machine and various placards outlining the harvesting process, terminology, etc. But the rest of the tour is outside, so be sure to dress for the weather! Our favorite part was the plunge. What an experience! From the donning of the waders to the actual wading into the bog to the taking of goofy photos.... the whole experience was SO fun! I found cranberries in my shirt later that night hahahaha! Bonus! My kid and I laughed so much. As she would say: wholesome fun. This tour and plunge is only available on certain days and at certain times during the Canadian Thanksgiving season, so if you are interested in doing this, be sure to get tickets when they go on sale (I think a month earlier). But I believe they have tours available by appointment year-round; check on thier website for more info. Watching the actual workers in the bog, pulling on the boom, seeing the round bog rotating as the cranberries rise and are harvested, is a pretty amazing site, and it will give you a new appreciation for this little ruby red berry.

Our tour guide Allison was knowledgeable about the area and guided us through the old city quarter providing fun facts and local history of the area. A leisurely pace was set and walking time was 10 minutes to each stop. We enjoyed 6 locations starting with coffee and freshly baked cinnamon buns, Tex Mex tidbits, mouth-watering Mediterranean, delicious Italian and a visit to the sweet shop for Nanaimo Bar Fudge. The restaurants "knocked it out of the park" and they are on my "visit again" list. A highlight was the food demonstration at an International food specialty shop. The tour was well balanced, lots of time to laugh, chat and shop. Would definitely recommend this food tour, it was so much fun.
