I started seeing Cheyenne Liao a couple of years ago about my shoulder pain. It's been a great experience. Like most people, when we experience something good, we don't have as much motivation to write a good review. I happened to come across the couple of negative reviews about Chi Wellness. Then I realized that although they are valid for the individuals who had the poor experience, yet the reviews do not reflect the true standing of the entire practice. My mom recently visited the practice. Both Cheyenne and Ben helped her relieve their shoulder and neck pain. She was able to sleep better and relax better as a result of the hour-long body massage. My own symptoms have also got better, and now I am on the maintenance basis to prevent my body from worsening. The deep medical massage has helped me relax and relieve the tightness on my shoulders. It also energizes me and improves my posture each time, not to mention the courteous and professional services. I've since referred friends and families to visit the practice, and they love the experiences as well. We are all human and we all make mistakes here and there. Worst massage of my life. I rarely write yelp reviews, and I completely agree with the previous reviewer. I also bought a groupon for the medical massage, thinking it would help alleviate my back and knee pain. Dr. Chang made the pain much worse as he rolled over both areas with intense pressure and force, despite my discomfort and telling him it was too much. The worst part was my knees... I've never had someone use that much force on injured knees before. I have a high pain threshold and get massages somewhat regularly, but I couldn't wait for this one to be over. If you are looking for a concentrated deep tissue / Thai / pressure point type massage then this is the place for you. I enjoy deep tissue and pressure point massages, so this type of massage was not a surprise to me. They provide a MEDICAL massage only, which means they only concentrate on areas of need and do not bother giving a full body massage or oil massage like most people are used to. I have muscle tightness in my back and hips and the masseuse went directly to my areas in need and spent the entire hour massaging a few select areas. It was determined that I only needed a few sessions and then I was good as new! Come here if you want relief from tight muscles. If you are looking for a spa massage experience, it may not be for you. Yes they go deep. It can be uncomfortable but "no pain no gain" in my world. Is there a possible 0 stars? If so, I would leave that. I was dealing with sciatica pain and booked a 'medical' massage. I'm no stranger to pain and I have a very high tolerance for it. But BEN was awful!!! This was more like a torture session. I literally yelled at him to STOP. To LESSEN THE PRESSURE. He did not listen and still continued to push as deep as he could on my spine and lower back - and all along areas where I previously had NO PAIN!!! He kept saying, you need to do acupuncture then. Needles - no pain. Massage - pain. He said this many many times during the massage, as if the repetition would convince me to tell him to stop so he could do something easier. I shimmied up the table away from him more than once and he kept coming back with the same determined force as before. I've had medical massages before. I know they will hurt, but the pain during and after should not be excruciating. I contacted them a few days after to express my concern. It is now 2.5 weeks since my massage and I cannot sit, stand, lie down or walk without significant pain. Pain in areas that did not exist prior to the massage. I only had sciatica from my glutes down on my right side. My entire lower back and left side are aching non stop since I went there. In contact with them, they said I have no recourse because I left a tip and I should come back in and let them fix it. Ummmmm.....no thanks. Orthopedic surgeon is up next. read more

I have experienced pain for many years, at times debilitating which eventually led to onset depression. After suffering the scare of going to a pain clinic where I walked away with four narcotic prescriptions, a good friend recommended I try acupuncture, specifically Cheyenne at Chi Wellness Center. This week I completed my second week of sessions which I drive from North Carolina for. After the first week, I walked out with tears of happiness. It was the first time in a very long time I had been pain free. Cheyenne is truly gifted and talented in her field. She is very intuitive and insightful as to what is going on with your body and is extremely knowledgeable on what treatments are necessary. Recently my ortho doctor stated I was destined for knee replacement surgery. Cheyenne has me back to walking with 90% movement and completely free from pain medications. I agree with the other 2 reviewers. Worst massage of my life only I had 2 women work on me. I kept saying it was too rough, but they didn't listen. I was in so much pain I could barely move by the end of it. They were so brutal, I was in pain for a week. I've had many massages in my past. I understand there is some pain involved, especially when I'm particularly tense or tight, but this was brutal. I, too, have a pretty high pain threshold but they had me barely able to breathe. I don't care what kind of Groupon deal they're floating, it's not worth it! Spend a little more and go somewhere else!! read more

I have been going to Chi Wellness for over 4 years and owe my physical well being to Cheyenne. When I had knee surgery Cheyenne helped me to move again without pain. She worked her magic by relieving the swelling & stiffness. When I opted for stem cell treatment instead of knee replacement she again helped me through it. Between massage therapy, cupping and acupuncture I was able to work through my discomfort and move freely. Today I have full use of my knees and live totally pain free. Cheyenne has helped relieve anything from my stiff neck and to planter fasciitis. I would highly recommend her especially if you want another option to conventional treatments of drugs or surgery. Went to Chi Wellness for treatment on my stiff neck. Neck and shoulders were painful for several months and I started to get headaches. Cheyenne and her staff did a wonderful job of diagnosing my issue and recommending a treatment plan. For me this included "gua sha" and I must admit that I was hesitant to try such an aggressive treatment. But it paid off. I tried other places before and the results were OK, but only temporary. With Cheyenne's plan I am able to sustain my improvement and can now stretch on my own without pain. read more

My first ever therapy massage was from here and it was an excellent, and comfortable experience. I was greeted with kindness and professionalism. It is a small office space but also very cozy. The sessions are taken seriously, with a friendly atmosphere. She explained how the session would go and what to expect. I came in for stiffness in my shoulder, lower back, and knee and she was able to assist in all areas. It is rough at first, which she warned me about, but once all the knotting was relaxed it was smooth sailing. The pricing is fair and they offer a lot of options varying in price. While I seldom take the time to write/post reviews on yelp, in this case I believe it is both warranted and necessary. I recently took advantage of a Groupon to undergo an hour-long medical massage at Chi Wellness. Owing to long-term back issues, strong massages which loosen up muscle and scar tissue have proved helpful as a conservative/complementary means of pain relief. Given that I've always been open-minded about "non-traditional" methods, I figured this would be a great opportunity to try out a new place, close to home. Unfortunately, the end results proved problematic. During the course of the inital intake process, I made very clear the nature of my back problem, and that I'd had surgery several years ago. I understood the concept of medical massage (having had this type before), but assumed it would be balanced out against the realities of my condition. Unfortunately, this was NOT the case, and Mr. Chang launched into me with both barrels. Now, I have a pretty high pain threshold, but when I repeatedly say "too hard" or "too strong", that's a pretty clear indication that I'm not comfortable with the level of pressure. Mr. Chang clearly acknowledged my feedback, but made no changes to lessen the level of force being applied. Even worse, he proceeded to bend/torque my limbs and torso into positions which, while not "un-natural", were clearly not indicated for someone with my symptoms (who has repeatedly articulated discomfort at the process so far). By the end of the session I was nearly seeing stars, and it was all I could do to stagger out, make the short drive home, dose up on pain meds and crawl into bed. I'd been warned that the next day or two would be "uncomfortable", which would have been a dramatic understatement. The reality was that I could barely walk for the next week, and a host of new disc/nerve related symptoms have since appeared (pain shooting down leg, numbness/tingling in foot, etc). Sure, I wasn't in the best shape before the massage, but these new issues can be DIRECTLY attributed to it, and have persisted for well over a month (at this point). Why do I write this all? It's because I want folks going to Chi Wellness to thoroughly understand the nature of the massage they are going to receive. Most will probably fare better than I did, and I do believe they mean well in their treatment sessions. That said, Mr. Chang clearly paid no heed to unmistakeable feedback I provided during the session, and now I'm the worse for it. read more

My entire family (myself, my husband, our college-age son, and adult daughter) have been going to Chi Wellness for 11 years. Each of us has had different issues (son is a springboard diver; daughter had auto immune disorder, husband had decades-old muscle injuries, I had pinched nerve) and Cheyenne has skillfully and masterfully taken care of them all. It didn't take 11 years to fix those issues (in many cases only 5-10 visits, or sometimes just 1-2 visits), but we've continued to return for new injuries, pains, or even just maintenance visits to keep us feeling our best. Cheyenne is absolutely knowledgeable about what she does--whether medical massage, acupuncture, cupping, or qua sha--and is very intuitive about where the problem lies and the root of what is causing it.
