This review is for sauna only. Infrared sauna heats up to 158F which is great! The session is about 45 mins, and the price is moderate. Sauna is very small, and you can't lay down flat. Fits up to 2 people sitting up. The biggest concern I had is lack of showers. So after all the sweating you gotta put your clothes on and head out. Less than ideal. Parking is in the garage nearby. Couple things to highlight: 1.) I accidentally went to the wrong location "on time" and to head to the correct location would have cut my treatment time in half. Linda, my assigned therapist, allowed me to adjust the time to fully accommodate me for the originally scheduled 1-hour session upon arrival to the correct location. 2.) Once the treatment started, Linda performed the best deep tissue treatment I have ever received, regardless of whether it was another Hand & Stone location or a competitor. After reviewing all the great reviews on yelp and google, I decided to book a massage session with them. I dragged my friend along so we did the couple's massage so we can be in the same room. Here is my rant... 1) The piece of paper that they make you circle the areas that you don't want to be touched, you can go ahead and shred it because they don't read it. I even drew a big X in the areas that i don't want to be touched and can you guess where I was touched? 2) My therapist couldn't stop yawning, goodness gracious.... I counted how many times he yawned, 5 times. Dude I get it, we all have days like that but the amount and how he yawned was so unprofessional. We signed up for a Swedish massage, felt like it was half ass'ed. He managed to run through my knots twice and stopped. He spent the last 20 mins massaging my head which is where I did not want to be touched, my hair wasn't tied up so in the end i looked like the fricken Ring. My hair was knotted like a motha'effer, but glad I was able to amuse my friend. My friend got the better therapist and probably got her money's worth. This was also a Groupon thing so I don't know if they see "Groupon" and give you the half ass version. Overall I was so unsatisfied and disappointed, usually after a massage, I would come out feeling good and sore the next day but this was nothing. Every therapist is excellent. I don't have a favorite because they are all super great. Very professional and they really listen to your needs. I've been here on two occasions and I'm looking forward to my next visit! I got a Groupon for the couples massage plus infrared sauna and I went once with my boyfriend and another time with my best friend. We all enjoyed our time here and I think the deal was very reasonable for the package. There is only one sauna at the spa and it's pretty cool since you can stream Pandora or watch Netflix while you get your sweat on. The masseuses are very friendly and they listen to you and will adjust their pressure based on your needs. Just be prepared to be a little sore (but definitely relaxed!) afterwards and make sure you stay hydrated. If you do get the Groupon deal, make sure to mention that you want to schedule BOTH the sauna and massage when you call to make an appointment. My boyfriend called to schedule the first time and only mentioned having a Groupon deal and the receptionist only scheduled us for the massage, which we didn't find out until we arrived. I had been fraudulently charged for services at this location after cancelling my membership. This went on for months and finally I had to get my bank to block any charges this store was trying to impose. The manager, Madison has had limited communication with me, didn't return a single phone call and was almost impossible to get ahold of via email (NEVER GAVE ME A RESPONSE). Ultimately, I only got my money back after I disputed all of the charges with my bank. Madison did absolutely nothing to fix the issue. I highly suggest going elsewhere if you want quality customer service. - Not to mention I shouldn't have had to deal with this while pregnant and through my child's first weeks at home! read more

I went to Massage Green on 10/14/19 for a massage. I loved the ambiance of this location. The front desk staff was very professional. I had picked the massage therapist that was available with my schedule. I told her I had received several massages over the years and, preferred (or did not mind) if a massage was a little "deep". I also explained. I understood sometimes being uncomfortable during a massage leads to long last relief. She explained that she did not believe in causing pain for a massage. I was not surprised by the response and happily jumped on the table. However, what I didn't realize was that what she meant was no pain meant light touches. The massage was fine. However, I was surprised she never asked if the pressure was deep enough (or how I felt while it was going on). The price was fair for the area. In a nutshell, a fine place for some relaxation but for my specific needs I will be looking elsewhere. read more

I've been a member of Massage Green Fairfax for 1-year. On February 8th, I booked a massage for February 14th. On Saturday morning, two days before my appointment the Fairfax location called to notify me that the massage that I booked and PAID FOR had a $10 upcharge and for me to keep my appointment I would need to pay them an additional $10. I told them that this was crazy, you can't charge more for a service that was already paid in full with the price that was listed at the time. They refused to budge and I ended up canceling my massage. I asked for the spa manager to call me back and she didn't call until two days later at 5:00 in the afternoon. I asked the manager what she was willing to offer to keep me as a member and she just kept insisting that there is noting they can do about it. I tried to call corporate to complain and no one has answered all day and the VM box is full and not accepting messages. This is a terrible business practice. I will be filing a Better Business Bureau complaint, canceling my membership and will tell anyone who will listen to stay away from this spa. read more

Below is an email that I sent TWICE to management a month ago with no response. Besides this problem, I have had a couple good massages and 1 ok one with different therapists. "I am writing about a complaint I have that I am very frustrated about. In August, I had an appointment at the end of the month. I had just started a subscription service in July. Someone from Massage Green called and canceled the appointment. I then had 2 massages that had to be used in September. I only wanted one massage in a month so I called massage green. The girl on the phone told me I could use the credit for a facial or gift it to someone.  Really,  because you all canceled the appointment I should have been reimbursed for that massage- I should not have had to gift it to someone. (I didn't want to get a facial because I would have to remove my mask and I don't feel comfortable with that due to covid.) So, I was already upset that I had to gift my massage to someone else instead of being reimbursed for it. I spoke with someone a week ago who confirmed  I had 2 credits to use in September (which makes sense because I had my August and September credits to use) I gifted my August massage to my sister and she used it. I went in last week to use my last credit and the girl at the desk told me I had no credits and had to pay for my massage. This makes no sense, especially since the person on the phone had just told me I had 2 credits to use by the end of September. After going back and forth about it, I paid for it and left. My SO bought a $200 gift card for my birthday. I used $119.95 of the gc on a 2-hr massage on 8/13. After my massage I was told about the membership and if I enrolled same day I would receive a second massage for my first month. So I signed up for the membership. That evening & next day I say my card get charged & refunded 8-10x. I called a few days later to schedule my next appointment & make sure my account was correct. I called the Fairfax location (where I originally went) the phone line was forwarded to the Woodbridge spa because the staff was in training. The person told me I did not have a membership & didn't see any information. They got me signed up & charged my card for the membership. They advised me to call the Fairfax location to confirm I receive the 2nd massage. I called to confirm my appointment & spoke to a manager Annalise (I think that was her name). She informed me that they had transferred from massage green spa to hand & stone spa, so there was some confusion. I explained to her that I should have 2 massages & $80 left on my GC. She explained to me that everything should be sorted out. I came in for my 90 minute massage on 8/27. I was expecting to use 1 of 2 massages & pay the $40 difference with my GC. When I went to check out the person at the front desk had no idea what I was referring to. She tried to figure it out but could not. She wrote down the information & told me a manager would call me. I never received a call. When I attempted to schedule another appointment the same manager I spoke to answered the phone. Up until this point I was very patient & understanding. I also own a service based business & understand sometimes these things happen. But when I spoke to the manager the 2nd time she was very unhelpful, rude & not understanding of the situation. She refused to work with me & honor the 2nd massage I was offered & could not find the GC my husband originally purchased for me. Based on what I was told from the 1st day I should have 1 more massage & $40 in gc remaining. She refused to honor that & was completely unwilling to work with me. It was a very frustrating experience. Not sure why I haven't reviewed this place yet! I started going here last May and have enjoyed the experience. I love the atmosphere, the waiting room is very zen-like and the place is clean. The rooms are comfortable and there is even a couples' room with a fireplace for additional luxury. I tried the intro massage and then signed up for the monthly facial or massage (take your choice). Each time I've gone, I've had Lynn, who was so pleasant and good at what she does. She gave me a facial that felt great and she has given me several massages that always get the kinks out. The last time I went, however, I was quite sore for a few days afterwards, so perhaps she overdid it. I don't think that should happen with a good massage, especially because I did not request deep tissue or anything strenuous. Just a nice, relaxing, gentle massage is all I was after. I did have some problems with one of the front desk people a few months ago -- not sure if it was Victoria, as others have mentioned. But one of the girls, an Asian girl with long black hair, was very snobbish towards me and did not make me feel welcomed at all. I spoke to my masseuse about her so maybe word got back that she needs to adjust her attitude? My only problem now is getting to the monthly massages per my contract. I get charged each month and cannot always get there. They do double up - so if you miss one month, you can go twice the next month - so that's a nice feature. Although, be warned -- there was some confusion at one point about the contract I was given and signed, and later told that some items in the contract were no longer valid. So that made my red flags go up. Make sure you confirm what is in the contract and make sure it is absolutely valid for the future. I'm actually thinking of quitting the contract and just going when I can, so I don't have the monthly obligation. It starts to feel like a chore, if you can believe it, to HAVE to make an appointment or lose your money. I know, first world problems! We will see how easy it is to cancel, even though it clearly states you can cancel anytime. I will update my review if there are any problems. In the meantime, go and enjoy! read more

This place was AMAZING! I had an hour of the infrared sauna and an hour massage. I was already excited coming it but it exceeded my expectations. I knew the infrared sauna was not as hot as a regular sauna and that it was described as similar to sitting in the sun and I really liked that it didn't feel too suffocating or overwhelming in there. The sauna also has a tablet in there to control the lights and temperature and you can use apps like Pandora and Netflix. Basically it was a lot more high-tech than I was expecting. Next they took us into a room for our massage and the room was beautiful! It has a fountain glass screen in the middle and soft music playing in the background. My masseuse was attentive and asked me what areas I wanted to focus on, the pressure I wanted, etc. I ended up doing a full-body massage and was so relaxed I practically fell asleep. By the end of the massage, I felt so relaxed and pampered. Overall, it was such a great experience and I would definitely come back! Pro-Tip: They also have packages and I believe one option was around $70 per month for one of them and that included a choice of massage or facial AND the use of the sauna. I think that deal is worth it because the massage regular price is $70 per person and the sauna would be $30 per person. I bought a Groupon and scheduled my husband and I for a one hour, couples massage on a Thursday evening, for a 6pm appointment. I have been getting regular massages for many years, from many therapists, however this was my husband's first time. On top of it all, I am a Licensed Massage Therapist myself (6 years in), so I know what to expect and what not to expect. I don't even know where to begin. First let me say, the front desk was very friendly and personable. The office was clean and inviting. My husband and I arrived 30 minutes early for our massage since it was our first time there, and I knew we'd have paperwork. We finished our paperwork with 15 minutes to spare. We waited...and we waited. Strike 1, at 10 after 6pm, our therapists, Jenna and I believe the male's name was Marc, came out and introduced themselves. We followed them back to the room and they asked us a few questions as they reviewed our paperwork. Afterwards, they asked if we needed to use the restroom before we began. I needed to, and excused myself briefly. When I came out, the male therapist, who would be massaging my husband (note: they didn't bother asking us if we had a preference, which we would have preferred my husband have the female and I have the male, but instead just 'told' us who was massaging whom), was texting/online his phone when I came out. I stopped for a moment and he didn't even notice me there as he was so engrossed in his phone. For starters, phones should NOT be out during the workday. Strike 2. I asked him if I should go ahead and get undressed and he said, "Oh yeah yeah...is your husband in there?" as he peeked in the room. I went in, we got quickly undressed and on the tables and waited for them. Finally someone knocked on the door asking if we were ready. It was now 20 after 6pm. Jenna had me face down initially and started out strong. I mentioned to her that my problem areas were my lower back with possible sciatica, neck and feet (the 3 most common issues for therapists). Even though she didn't tell me she was going to begin and started massaging me with no intro (you should let the client know you are about to touch them, especially with cold hands), her pressure was good. However, I noticed her using the same strokes and techniques on my back, which was just her forearm. It was as if I was being massaged by an amateur, who wasn't skilled in the art of massage. Next, she moved on to my thighs, where her pressure was too much and too deep. I jumped a few times, and not once did she ask me if her pressure was too much. A good therapist should always ask throughout the massage if the pressure is okay; especially if the client jumps in obvious pain. By the time she got to my calves, it's as if she wore herself out by that point and she spent much too long on my calves, just literally rubbing them back and forth. She did a quick massage on the soles of my feet, which I noted on my form and in person, were a problem area for me, so she should have been spending more time on them, but instead, she had me flip over. When I flipped, she spent a little time going over my legs again, completely skipped my feet, which meant my toes didn't get massaged at all, totally skipped my arms and hands, spent a little time on my neck and then right at the strike of 7pm, stopped! There was no flow, no follow through and my massage was technically stopped 10 minutes too soon. Since I was meticulous about watching the clock, knowing how late they were, I expected they would cheat us out on time, as they had. I am very aware that a "one hour" massage is only 50 minutes, as they allow 10 minutes to get dressed/undressed. However, our massage only lasted 40 minutes and we spent well under 10 minutes undressing, dressing and using the restroom across the hall. Our Groupon also advertised "optional sauna" which we were not provided with. I was highly disappointed! I do NOT recommend this place. Save your money. It isn't even worth it with a Groupon. I will not ever visit this place again. read more

Came here to have my 1st ever deep tissue massage. The waiting area had a warm comforting feel. Plenty of water to stay hydrated before and after your massage. Being this was my first time I had a bit of anxiety going in. My massage therapist Natalie was amazing at making me feel comfortable. She did an amazing job working out the kinks in my body. The background music was soothing which made me feel calm and relaxed. The sauna session was also great. The little media unit inside was a nice touch as I watched a movie during my session. My only gripe was the sauna itself didn't stay at a consistent heat level. I barely broke a sweat in the 50 mins I was in there. Overall a pleasant experience. I scheduled a 9 AM appointment here on my morning off from work. I was told they don't accept last minute cancellations and to arrive 10 minutes early for paperwork. Ok! No worries. I arrived 10 minutes early, fill out my paperwork and wait. About 10 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start, they call me up and say they can't get in touch with my massage therapist. They'd offer me a "free upgrade" on my next visit. Oh yeah that seems fair . They would have happily charged me if it was ME who cancelled. They offered for me to wait for her to respond but since there was an appointment right after me they would give me a partial service, with no discount but a "free upgrade" next time. They wouldn't give a complete service and make her schedule run behind. Nice to know they value the next person but not me. Anyway, could have slept in on my morning off but instead schlepped through traffic to get to Fairfax from Alexandria just to deal with this unprofessional nonsense. I'm giving a 1 star because I'm super disappointed in the lack of communication. I started a membership a few months ago. Today I called to schedule an appointment and was told I would be charged an additional $20 on top of the membership fee I'm already being charged because they are increasing their prices effective December 1st. So I asked if prices are effective December 1st why would I be charged extra if I'm Coming in now. So basically the membership I'm currently paying for doesn't matter. To top it off I've haven't received any communication whatsoever. I requested a manager to call me to get this resolved and cancel the membership. I will update my review once I've actually received that callback. But I'm curious to know on dec 1st were they just going to start charging me the additional fee. read more

Been coming here ever since they first open. The esthetician, Lynn, is so amazing. She gives the best facials and massages. Absolutely wonderful experience every time I have appointments with her. Also had prenatals appointments there with both pregnancies and they were so nice and relaxing. When they first opened, it was only $45 a month and over the years they've increased it. now I've been told they're raising it to $70 a month. I'll prob cancel once that goes into effect. I'll miss them for sure but I don't think it's fair that I'm not grandfathered in. BUYERS BEWARE I hate to leave this review because I have been a member a Massage Green Spa since it first opened at this location. I've had lots of great massages and it used to be very easy to get an appointment. In the last year however it became more and more difficult to get an appt and then they raised the rates so I decided to cancel my membership. That's when things went down hill. I cancelled in January in person with the manager however I was charged the membership fee in Jan, Feb and March. I called immediately in Jan and was told it was because I didn't fill out the cancellation form. Well, seems like the manager would have told me to fill that out when I cancelled in person. Anyway filled out the form and sent it to them via email. This continued for two more months. Back and forth with claiming to not have received the form even though finally someone "found" it. I probably called five times trying to get a refund for the months they incorrectly charged me but was told a manager would have to call me back...no call back ever. I emailed them with the same request...no response. I just filed a complaint with the BBB. Hopefully that will help or they will respond to this post. read more

I got a groupon for a couples massage here. I would definitely not be going back. I went into the massage perfectly fine and came back with a hurting left rotator cuff. Also when I asked the masseuse to put more pressure she didn't listen. I don't think these people know which areas to massage and which avoid. I felt like I was drenched in oil only after my massage. That's all they were good at. Definitely very very disappointed! UPDATE- 09/16/18 The manager apparently called me that same day I posted the review above to offer me a free massage and sauna. Today was my appointment, made plans and was excited to go. An hour before my appointment I get a call that the masseuse isn't available. They listen to exactly what I tell them I want to focus on, and my muscles always feel relaxed when I leave. If you want someone who can really apply the pressure, ask for Kelly! I booked a Swedish massage and 3 infrared sauna sessions because of the benefits of infrared for Lyme disease. I believe Rachel was working the desk when I arrived, and she was super sweet and accommodating. From the moment I entered, I felt the entire spa had a very peaceful atmosphere. The sauna wasn't as hot as others I've experienced, and the hour passed quickly, especially with the Netflix and pandora to play with. The massage was wonderful as well - although I can't recall my therapist's name, she did a great job and I left feeling a whole-body relaxation that I hadn't felt in a long time!
