Chiba is such a great local spot that we found for a last minute dinner last night. The staff was so kind and attentive and all the dishes we ordered were well executed. Our favorite dishes were the karrage and unagi bowl. The crunchy salad was delicious but over priced for what you get. The could include more salad toppings than the fried yam crispies that were put on the top. The menu is pretty robust so there is definitely something for everyone. read more

I don't even know where to start with this place. I sat down, and was brought barely warm tea, which was probably a good enough reason to leave. Ordered the cream cheese spring rolls, victoria roll, and chicken teriyaki roll. Not a hope in hell was I trying sashami here. Rice on the rolls was old and dry. Chicken teriyaki roll was mostly cucumber with a bit of super dry chicken. Victoria roll was supposed to have real crab. It might have been? But I wouldn't have put money on it. Cream cheese spring roll had little to no cream cheese, and was just full of mushy vegetables and meat. Went for supper. I'll keep this short. Meh. The sashimi felt dry and honestly smelled fishy. It's odd, I've never been able to smell my sushi, really, before the salmon I had today. The salmon also had a slightly brown color to them I wasnt exactly happy with. The pieces were small for the price. The yam tempura was a bit undercooked, and I was charged 1.5 for a tiny side plate of spicy mayo without being informed of the added cost. My chicken teriyaki roll was dry, bottom line, they do not use fresh chciken in that roll, it is dried older chicken. Id consider this sushi edible, but maybe not worth your time. read more

Was looking for a sushi restaurant on 9-22-2011 around lunch time. Saw Chiba Sushi and decided to give it a try. Serious mistake. The sashimi was not fresh. The short ribs looked and tasted like it was taken out of the freezer and reheated over the frying pan. Nasty taste. I will never go to this restaurant. Service was not so good either. Not poor but just below average. That along with bad food makes me think I wasted my money. Spent 63 total for lunch for 3 people. read more

While the area is not great and the parking lot has holes in it that could swallow a VW, this is possibly the best sushi in Victoria with great food and friendly staff. The Agedashi Tofu is bite size, crispy and delicious, the Goma-Ae is perfect and the Tuna Tataki wonderful. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. read more

Ordered a yam/avocado roll and a super dynamite roll. Tried the yam/avo roll first and it was meh, not the best I've had, but ok. Then went to try a piece of the dynamite roll. As it was going into my mouth I could smell something weird but was already starting to chew and immediately tasted/smelled rotten fish. Everything in the roll was cooked(ie-tempura prawn) but it was clearly bad and I immediately had to spit it out and almost threw up. Had to throw everything out. read more

Horrible horrible customer service! I am blown away by the lack of respect for customers, especially returning customers. Management is cheap to the point where they argue with you for a credit of $16 after delivering food 45 minutes late, and messing up the order in the first place. They charged me for rolls they didn't include in the delivery, and missed 4 orders of gomae - instead of compensating, they argued for 20 minutes with me and refused to provide any compensation beyond delivering the rolls I paid for but didn't receive. I was a returning customer, ordering sushi at least 2 to 4 times a month. I will not be ordering from here again. read more

I absolutely love Chiba Sushi. From the Toroko (tuna), to the Yaki Shrimp, to the Rice with Sesame Sauce, to the Chiba roll, to the Motoyaki...it's all delicious! Chiba has been my neighbourhood sushi spot for 7 years. I 've tried other places but keep going back. The food is delicious, the sushi and sushi rice is alway so fresh. The Aegdashi tofu is to die for best batter in town. The decor is simple, the service is fast and I honestly think its a hidden gem in the city. Prices are very reasonable too ! read more

Since the closure of Tatami Sushi following the retirement of its owner last year we have been searching for an outstanding Japanese restaurant in Victoria. All of the downtown restaurants are mediocre at best and mostly overcrowded. This week we decided to try Chiba Sushi. What a stroke of good luck. Firstly unlike downtown there is ample free parking. Secondly the food, service, and ambience are first class. For appetizers we ordered the Tuna Tataki and Oysters Miyadori, both perfect. The Sunomono was a tasty mix of shrimp, octopus, and... The Sashimi 18 piece combination was fresh and well prepared, and the Rock n Roll sushi was excellent. Our service was outstanding and the waitress very helpful with suggestions. There are both conventional and Japanese style booths and a sushi bar. A very pleasant quiet Japanese restaurant. We strongly recommend it to all Japanese food lovers. read more

Terrible. Overpriced. Soggy. Service slow. Nothing comes at the same time. The washrooms are filthy. The only people that seem happy are the hooligans that always in the parking lot smoking joints. I have this place so many tries as it is close to work, but seriously. Terrible. read more

We've ordered through SkipTheDishes a few times and have found the quality to be consistent with good value. Last time we ordered, one portion of our order was forgotten (not sure whether it was the fault of the driver or the restaurant) but I received a call immediately from the restaurant and they drove out and delivered the rest of our order super promptly -- great service in my opinion. read more

I mentioned that I was vegetarian and ordered nabuyaki which is supposed to be fish, noodles and veggies. Fine for a vegetarian...except they added meat. Pretty gross to find something factory farmed in my bowl. read more

I love this place. It's not a she-she sushi spot, it's old style, before the mini-lights and urban bling made the environment the focus, instead of the food. My favorites are always consistently good, sashimi, tempura, and miso. Pretty simple stuff. The rolls are good and the noodle dishes that my friends have had are enjoyable. Staff is always courteous and attentive. I like this low-key cafe style Japanese dining. Prices are as they should be. I like the huge book-bound menu too, too much reading but it is different. read more

I always get good food here, can't go wrong with $8.40 for a bento box. I do wish they had a Shabu Shabu soup instead of Miso. Quick take out, quick to eat in. Good little lunch spot. read more
