At one point during my visit there was a guy being trained on the Pilates reformer, the step class AND a separate strength training class in ONE TINY room with no separation. As you can see in the photo those in the step class are steps from the reformers. So distracting!!! The conversation and commentary from the other classes were louder than the music at most times and they weren't even loud...they were just 5 steps away and the music was being played on a small google home. If you don't have the space and equipment to offer your customers the experience they are paying for why offer the class?? If I hadn't paid money to take this class this experience would just have been comically bad but I did. So unacceptable and cheap!

She truly understands bio-mechanics and how the body and mind work together. After suffering with lower back pain for years, and 3 rounds of Physical therapy with no improvement I switched over to Pilates and the improvements have been amazing. Switching from what I call "normal" Pilates to Alyssa was a HUGE step up. My herniated disc has caused my glutes to not fire correctly in certain movements which exacerbates back pain. Working with Alyssa has really helped my brain to help fire the glutes properly. Look bottom line is, she is not your standard Pilates instructor. Alyssa goes way beyond that. She's like a master of understanding the body. If you're a serious athlete, suffer from some form of pain, or just simply want to improve you're bodies functions and feel stronger in a way no other workout can do, Evolve and Elevate is perfect for you.

They all carry a 500hour comprehensive certification, while also being so friendly, kind, and helpful. She's so knowledgeable, sweet, and helpful, taking her classes are the best parts of my week. There are 2 floors, the ground level has 4 studio reformers, 5 exo chairs, a barrel, and a Cadillac. Upstairs has 5 allegro 2 reformers. Reform pilates classes can be super intimidating because the machinery looks like a medieval contraption to those of us newbs! Luckily for me, our instructor Maggie put any nerves I had at ease right away. She was SO welcoming and immediately walked me through the reformer and how we would be using it in this class. She also made a point to ask if I had any injuries or muscle/joint issues to be aware of. The class itself was so much fun, but still challenging. I loved being able to train my body in a new way, while also incorporating stretches and not being completely exhausted and burned out afterwards. Maggie assisted me every step along the way, and never made me feel bad for being new and totally clueless! She also showed me minor tweaks in form that made the BIGGEST difference. I really loved my class here overall and will definitely be back! It's a fun workout that's challenging and a great way to switch things up from the regular gym routine.

After seeing all the crazy amenities which were super cool with a ton of variety, I think the thing that surprised me the most is how up-to-date all of the equipment was and the variety of activities they had for people to enjoy. If you're looking for an all encompassing workout/work space, this is it! They have everything from full-size tennis courts, to a golf simulator-like set up,except you get to hit into an inflatable pillow! They also had plenty of Pickleball courts, and they offer so many different workout group classes.both a wet and dry, sauna, and tons of treadmills and free weights. I was also really impressed that they also had a physical training area. So think something that was my personal favorite and the best thing for Chicago Summers is a beautiful rooftop pool and lounge area. Not only did they have two outdoor pools (one for adults and one for kids) but they also have an indoor pool as well for winter as well as an indoor hot tub! They also had a common area workspace where people can come to take meetings and do their work from home gigs. You could practically move in here haha! As of right now, it is a $750 new membership fee as well as $295 a month, which is a pretty hefty chunk of change if you ask me considering most of the high rises around, have some kind of rooftop pool and workout area. It is cheaper if you join with a domestic partner or if you're between the ages of 16 and 29-see pic for current pricing. They also sometimes host social events which is super fun to meet everyone else in the club, but at the same time I think it is more of an investment in your future and your future health if you can afford it! I will not be joining at the moment, but hey-that could change anytime if I decide I should be on a health kick.

At $22 per session, the classes offer structured swim lessons at a more affordable rate compared to other local options. There is a chill vibe that works great for a 1st learner, but the level of rigor is lower than Goldfish so we switched there once we got off their wait list. Classes are sold in 5 week packages, and reschedules are not typically allowed. The class structure follows a set sequence of exercises. Instructors are friendly, but engagement is inconsistent. While they guide kids through various activities, the level of encouragement and feedback varies, with some instructors mentally checking out after providing initial directions. The UIC facility itself is quite nice - The water is comfortably warm and there are changing areas. Parking is available but paid for a few dollars. Note that your access is restricted to within 15 minutes of class time, so don't go too early. Though there are fewer opportunities for underwater practice and confidence-building dips, the parent/tot classes are primary about getting your kid comfortable in water. Overall, UIC Swim Classes deliver decent value for the price, though parents seeking a more intensive training that will get kids swimming faster may want to explore Goldfish.

To be fair, my parameters- no Lincoln Park studios, instructors who won't eat a Subway breakfast flatbread in front of me while I'm doing my hundreds, etc.- are fairly stringent. I'm happy to report that my recent private Pilates session at CRNP has cast a more favorable light on my experiences. First of all, I give kudos to the instructors/reservationist for accommodating my same-day request to change my appointment. I was not able to come in at 10 am as scheduled and was graciously slotted in at 12:30 pm. This was accomplished free of any drama and speaks well to the level of customer service here. As to the studio itself, I felt comfortable going in, as I know the area. The loft like space is open and spacious. This might be a different story once the room gets filled up for a group class, but I didn't feel at all crowded during my one-on-one session. In addition to the traditional Pilates setup, there is Gyrotonic/Gyrokenetic equipment on offer. I am eager to try this, as the number of studios that boast these offerings is limited. So far, the only ones I have seen have been in NYC and London. I look forward to taking a class here in the near future and will certainly report back. I was pleased with the Pilates instruction and had no difficulty when it came to payment/scheduling. The only slight hiccup was experienced this weekend, when I went online to try to book a group class through the studio's mind-body scheduler. One of the classes indicated that I needed to take a prerequisite, which seemed odd, seeing as how I now have several mat and equipment-based Pilates classes under my belt. I decided to sign up for a stretching/mat class a week from now so that I may continue my observation and see whether this is a studio that I will be sticking with.

The studio became my home away from home as the atmosphere is so comfortable, the equipment is top of the line, and again the instructors make you feel so empowered. I wanted to share what I was learning as a student with others so decided to take the instructors training that the studio offers. I completed the Polestar Pilates Instructor Training a few months ago. The educational space in the studio allows for a safe and friendly space to get hands on practice teaching and mastering the exercises.
