I was lured into this shop by an ad on Craigslist advertising countless numbers of 99 cent back issues - since I have a good half a dozen or so ongoing runs I need to fill some holes for, I figured I would pop in. I was in there for less then two minutes. What passed for their back stock were two gnarly looking shelves with a few long boxes - I didn't really get a chance to look at them though due to the high concentration of adolescants running around and playing games treating the store like an afterschool hang out. Perhaps this is an afterschool hang out - the employee on hand had his back turned playing video games and chatting with his buddies. To call this a comic shop is doing comic shops every where a disservice. This place is a hole in the wall waste of time and you would do best to steer clear. read more

My son and his friends are into Pokémon. They really enjoy getting together with each other and new friends to play. Just tonight the store advertised an event that would have "sign up" start at 5:30 with games to begin at 6. We got excused from travel sports, changed schedules on a WORLD SERIES game night and took 3 incredibly excited kids to play...at 5:30. 5 minutes later we learned that they actually opened early, were at capacity and needed to go back to pick up the very upset boys. The event cost $25, and amazingly that's what the new card deck cost-so they still got their money from the kids-for the last time from us. They don't have their act together, and after a few odd experiences, this was the end of our spending money at this store. I'm going to hold off on my review, the owner sent me a very apologetic email today and is trying to earn our business back. Things happen, let's see how things go in the future. read more

They post ads on craigslist for fifty cent comics, so I called and asked a few questions and figured I'd go check 'em out....MY GOD WAS THAT A DUMP. I walk in to a small room (their store)cram packed with fat smelly kids at tabels, and the few boxes of comics they had where only viewable if you stood with your ass against smelly kids. I dared to try and do it, but that damn B. O. killed me. I had to leave. I dared to venture into it, but man.... screw that place. Don't go there. They price silver age comics way too high. A batman comic that you could buy for $15 is $45 there. Those are exact amount quotes. DON'T GO THERE!!!!! unless you're a smelly kid who has to pay to hang out with people...then go there. read more

Nope. I had not been here in years, but things have gotten far worse than when I used to frequent the place. Thought I would revisit and perhaps get a MTG draft in since their social media advertised the event. Bad call. Really bad call. Just minutes after I walked in, an argument erupted between multiple people at a table and the storekeeper. Honestly don't know the details of the argument but it appeared to have something to do with someone bringing in a collection of cards to potentially sell and the store was unable to buy it and did not permit the others in the store to make offers either...anyhow, doesn't really matter what it was regarding, the atmosphere of the place was hostile with back and forth shouting. Literally right after this shouting match ends a kid, maybe 13, comes in and starts ranting about some outside person peppering each statement with some anti-Semitic remarks. All of that and the event didn't even happen because the people who did play magic had no interest in spending money to draft. The store looks better with a fresh paint job, new display cases, and better organization. There's no easy fix for the environment that exists there however. It is a total embarrassment. I was out within 15 minutes and won't be back. read more

My sons are into Pokemon cards. We were buying packs at Toys R Us and always getting duplicates- nothing they wanted. So then we resorted to Ebay, which we would buy packs "with a guaranteed EX" which were $7-15. Well, at this store you can go in and flip through their binder and see exactly what card you are buying, most for a $1 and the very good ones for $4-5. They also have packs of regular Pokemon cards (5-10) for just $1. It was a special treat for my sons and we'll be back. I was surprised walking in that most of the store is taken up with tables, for tournaments. The owner offered to teach us how to play the Pokemon game, not my son's thing yet, but maybe someday. I thought that was a nice gesture. After wasting a lot of money at Toys R Us and Ebay I am glad to find this place within walking distance and my boys are on Cloud 9 with their cards. read more

I stopped in here a while back and was pleasantly surprised. It has a really laid back appearance, but on the inside it has real character. Everybody loves the unforgettable and kooky Juan. Plus, no one is rushing to get you to buy things as soon as you walk in. All in all, a great gamer's place! If you love to play you should definitely stop in here. read more

I have visited this shop with my son, who is into Pokeman, a few times. During one of our visits the gentleman behind the counter, Martin I believe, mentioned that kids can stop by anytime to play Pokeman and they would help them learn how to play. So for my son's birthday I decided to reach out to see if we could have a birthday party in the shop for him and 6 of his friends. Everyone associated with the shop, including the owner, was very responsive and helpful. We were able to reserve a table in the shop and "Goggles" was there to teach them how to play Pokeman! We really had a great experience. Plus, they have everything you would ever need for Pokeman right there onsite! read more

This is a pretty grungy , unorganized place to buy comics , cards and other collectibles. I went here when my kid was on a serious Yu-gi-oh kick , and luckily the trend was dying down. We walked away from this place getting some hard to find cards at an absolute song. I wanted to check out other stuff here as a courtesy , but I didn't really find much else of interest. This place is one star city , but I'll give it two for saving me almost $30 on the Exodia card set my kid still takes pride in today. read more

I used to stop in this shop twice a month when I was younger. I was (and am) a huge comic book enthusiast. It had been about 12 years since I've been in the place. I decided to drop in today as sort of a walk down memory lane. I was on the hunt for DC back issues and some good conversation. What I found was NOT, I repeat NOT a comic shop. The store stock only consists of bargain bin leftovers. No new comics are available. It was more of a card game emporium, but I am hesitant to even call it that. I left feeling very disappointed. From a magic player: Ditto on the comment about single Magic cards, I was looking for a few that they didn't have, but OH MAN found some real steals on a lot of standard legal cards. Their prices on singles on the whole are ridiculous (in a good way). Have been back multiple times. Juan is great. There were a bunch of smelly kids (which is true, but if you're a gamer you'll deal) trying to get his attention while I was flipping through their magic singles, and he straight up told them to piss off, cuz he was dealing with a customer. If you like Magic (their Yu-Gi Oh scene seemed pretty packed/fun, I don't play) or other collectible card games this place is for you. As a Magic Player and a Yugioh Player I find this store to be great! I mean, it's a place, in the city, where card players can come and play everyday of the week! It's hard to find that, all the other card shops kick us out if we're not playing in the tournament, all Galaxy asks is that you buy something, which given their reasonable prices isn't too daunting of a task. Ever since MTGChicago closed Galaxy has been getting a huge flux of customers which means MORE TRADES! Down to the nitty gritty though, The people who come here, sometimes, are not the most favorable folks to be around, but i guess that's not really the stores fault. They can't refuse service because someone smells bad, right? Unless you're an avid card player, i would avoid this store on Saturday, though any other day of the week is a great day to come in! Whether it's the kooky Juan or the helpful Nathan who's working that day, you'll be sure to find what you're looking for! Though the store doesn't get new comic books in, you may still find back issues you didn't have a chance to pick up before. This place has great customer service, as soon as i walk in the store i was asked if i need any help. i wasn't t constantly be pestered to buy things every 5 mins though which was a nice refresher. i went looking for a gift for a friend that plays yugioh not really knowing anything about the game and the employe there offered to teach me to play. all in all this place is great if you're into card games. read more

Great little comic book shop. Took 6- and 9-yr old daughters there for some Pokemon cards. I didn't know a thing about Pokemon. Juan was very patient and even sat down with us to show us how to play a bit. Tables are setup for tournaments when kids become advanced at the game. Welcoming. Friendly. Bare bones shop. If you want fancy-pants store with fancy prices, go to a shiny shop in Lincoln Park or Lincoln Square instead. read more
