We are so pleased with the progress that our daughter has made in math with the help of Chicago Home tutor. Our tutor, Sarah, quickly identified the most ideal ways to help our daughter learn AND apply Algebra concepts. We saw an immediate improvement in her confidence level - which was so important for her test taking. We have had a very positive experience with The Chicago Home Tutor. I contacted them because I started to wonder if my 8th grade daughter might have some undetected reading/ reading retention challenges, and knew for sure that she could use some help with her study habits (... and that the latter would be better received and implemented via someone other than her dad or me). So, we reached out to CHT and a couple of things were impressive from the start: first, I got a call back from the founder/CEO within 24 hours (a call, not just an email). When we ultimately connected live, she listened and asked really good questions. It felt very thorough and tailored. Before long we had a match with a tutor, and were diving into scheduling. Our first tutoring session happened not long after that; but it actually wasn't a great fit. The tutor who came was professional, and credentialed, but there just a few other stylistic / personality elements that weren't a great fit and we all (my daughter, my husband, and I) felt nearly immediately afterwards that the things that weren't a fit would become a big distraction. We felt really awkward about this... very picky... but we also really wanted to address the initial tutoring hopes so we called CHT to talk this through. At that point we had a very good conversation with another person at CHT who had the authority to make a switch; that person also asked a bunch of really good quesitons both about our daughter but also about the fit issues, reassured us that this happens sometimes, and promised to reassign us quickly. Then she did just that... in a very short time we got a new tutor, who has been fantastic. My daughter has responded really well to her and looks forward to their sessions. Chicago Home Tutor was a godsend when we were struggling with how to help our 9-year old son who was diagnosed with phonics and writing delays along with ADHD (inattentive type). We were at a complete loss with where to start and how to move forward. We sent a few emails to tutors that specialize in tutoring for learning delays and ADHD and heard back immediately from Laura who knew exactly what we were going through and how to help us approach the situation. She provided a list of potential approaches that we could try and let us know how common this is / that there is a way forward. After our initial correspondence and discussions with Laura, we were paired with our perfect match - Amy - who is a special education teacher. Amy has such a lovely way about her and really connects with the children through many different learning techniques that particularly encourage focus and phonics learning for our son. We also have our 6 year old daughter tutor with her so that our son does not feel singled out. Both of the kids absolutely love her, and we are really seeing progress in both children's learning. The Chicago Home Tutor's approach to learning is very specialized to the child and very flexible. As our son dreads reading and phonics but loves math, they always end with a challenging math problem so he has something to look forward to. Reading and writing had never been a strong point for my son over the years. I'd tried to tutor him on my own when he was younger, but you know how that goes when a parent tries to do this job! We tried a grad student level tutor for one year with slight improvement, but we really wanted someone who would be able to pinpoint what he needed to focus on. We found The Chicago Home Tutor after much research and decided to give it a shot. We filled out the contact form online and Laura got back to us unbelievably quickly! She was very thorough in how TCHT works and explained what we can expect and what we should not expect from them. She was very patient with answering my long list of questions which was very much appreciated! When we did decide to go with them, a match was made with a tutor very quickly. We really like the idea that this was "custom matched" with our son's personality and study habits. They took everything I mentioned about him into consideration. It's been about 4 months since we've worked with Amica on a weekly basis and it's been great! We truly think that she is a perfect fit. I've noticed that there's been improvement in how my son is now approaching a reading piece and using the methods that Amica taught him to basically make it easier for him to comprehend what he's reading. His writing has also improved somewhat as she works with him on writing organization. I reached out to Laura at The Chicago Home Tutor at a time when I was feeling very overwhelmed at the prospect of addressing my son's learning needs on my own. Our situation was not a straight forward "tutoring only" one and Laura and Tulin both jumped right in to help us out and remained readily available to help over the course of my son's time with The Chicago Home Tutor. My is 15 years old, attends a Chicago Catholic high school and had been recently diagnosed with a Nonverbal Learning Disorder. In addition to this new diagnosis, he had significant gaps in his learning due to the social/emotional challenges that are at the core of this diagnosis and frequent absences from school were contributing significantly to his academic challenges.
