A little dirty and lots of homeless hangout, but the food was amazing. Had the chicken wings and a cheese stake and chicken. Pro tip, order ahead. They get backed up.

I'd been meaning to try out Chicago Munchies mostly to test out their Philly cheesesteak - and I was pleasantly surprised. Philly steaks can be a huge miss if the meat is chewy or if the meat to cheese sauce ratio is off - but these guys definitely nailed it. In addition, I was really excited to see that they have a complete zabihah halal menu which only a handful of restaurants in town offer. Each sandwich is decently priced with a large side of fries and a drink. And they have daily specials Monday thru Thursday. Check out my menu pix. Will definitely be back to try out their famous fried fish and other sandwiches!

Tried this place for the first time and my family and I really liked it. Their Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with hot peppers was delicious! My kids enjoyed the cheeseburger and I really liked the double cheese burger with gyros. Everything on the menu comes with fries and drinks and since we didn't need that many drinks they gave us bottled water for the remaining drinks. The lady who helped me with my order was really nice. It's hard finding Halal burger joints here so this one's a keeper.

Great place to stop for fried catfish. Got a combo with fish and chicken wings. Mystery red sauce included along with fries. Made a great meal after TV college football game. Great service with double bags to protect your car seats.

There have been at least 2 or 3 other attempts at a food spot in this location in the 8 years I have been in Kalamazoo, with varying degrees of success. Obviously none of them were successful enough to last. THIS one has some serious potential. The format is a typical urban neighborhood food joint. Mostly fried foods such as chicken, fish, shrimp are the mainstays. They also serve a variety of sandwiches such as versions of the Philly steak, burgers, chicken, fish, polish, and even gyros! The menu is pretty deep for a corner shop. First impressions. Based on previous visits (former food spots) at this spot, I was expecting what I call "shabby hood chic" which is basically clean enough to pass inspection but obviously decor is not a priority. I was pleasantly surprised. The interior is very clean and well lit. The paint scheme is colorful. There is even a flat screen in the ceiling corner that was playing kid friendly movies. Approaching the counter I was immediately greeted by a very friendly counter person. She told me to take my time as I stated I wasn't familiar with the menu. I ended up going with an old staple of mine - fried chicken wings. I use that as a litmus test for neighborhood joints. If they can't do wings well, I'm not trying anything else! It took about 15 minutes or so to receive my order, although there were only 2 other people ahead of me. But that is to be expected, as it's not "fast food" but more "cooked to order". The chicken was absolutely great! The wings weren't tiny. They were plump and juicy and the breading had just enough crunch. As typical, they tend to be heavy handed with the seasoning (unless you request them not to be), but I also typically like that. They have a small self serve area with additional seasonings and condiments, including a mysterious one labeled only as "crack". It smelled tasty so I added that to my order. It tasted fantastic on the wings! I definitely plan to return to try some other items on the menu, although I was warned away from the catfish nuggets by a friend that preceded my visit to Chicago Munchies. According to him, the portion was HUGE but the nuggets were a bit over "hard" and there were bones. Bones in catfish nuggets is a deal breaker for me so I wont be trying them. But there is a whole menu of items I WILL be trying! Looks like Fish Express over on Riverside has a serious contender :) TIP: Parking can be tricky as the small lot is shared by a popular beauty shop/store an a credit union. There are usually open spots near the north entry of the lot, near the dumpster.

They allowed our party planning group to completely transform the space with linens, a DJ, and even a photo booth complete with a couch. They also noticed our boujee party décor and thoughtfully went out and purchased serving plates that matched the theme. We truly appreciated that level of attention to detail and the extra effort they made to help bring our vision to life. The food was delicious and exactly as expected. Our server and caterer were attentive, efficient, and always one step ahead--no one ever had to wait for a drink. They also did a fantastic job keeping tables cleared and tidy so everyone could relax and enjoy the celebration. Working with the McGonigle's team was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. If I could give them 100 stars, I would! They are truly a hidden gem in Kalamazoo, and I would highly recommend them for any special event or gathering.

Quite possibly the worst dining experience I have ever had…read more The restaurant smelled bad and it almost caused my wife to leave. That would have been fortuitous. Instead, we had to endure a staff that not only was rude, but willfully neglectful. She had only one other table and, yet, our server, Katlyn, never checked with us unless we forced her to acknowledge us. She avoided eye contact at all costs. Ten minutes with empty drinks and we finally got her attention. My wife asked for another beer and she ran off before I could even ask for another of my drink! The dinner was terrible. My wife's Blackened Bleu Steak ($32) was so bad that she took two bites and set it aside. The food was overcooked and salty. My Olive Cheese Smash Burger ($16) was the same. When we called for the check, the waitress did not even question that the food was nearly untouched on our plates. There are so many great restaurants in the area. Save yourself the hellacious experience of the HighDive Kitchen + Bar.

But High Dive is worth the feat of finding a nearby spot!) I highly recommend the wings - some of the best we've had in town!! We love doing half and half: lemon pepper and sweet heat with the ranch and blue cheese! Their fries are also way good!! Regular or their truffle style!! The bleu berry salad is my favorite entree, paired with the steak it's an absolute slay!!! It will keep me coming back!

Unfortunately, when we visited this most recent time, the market was not working so I ordered a flight with my dinner. It did eventually start up as we were getting ready to leave, and everything was super high so we didn't participate in the fun. I ordered the Honey Chicken sandwich with the cheese curds and it was honestly delicious. The chicken was good and a perfect blend of savory and sweet, the sandwich came with lettuce, freezer pickle and ranch. The cheese curds were surprisingly some of the best I've had and were perfect with a bit of ranch. I'd have the meal again and hopefully next time, the exchange is up and running! :)

The chips were great too and our bartender suggested we get their french onion dip too. Also delicious. The service was great and friendly and the vibe overall was really enjoyable. Don't often head out to Kalamazoo, but would definitely stop by again if I was in the area!
