Despite the fact that we discussed where to drop off the car, either in front of our house or in the driveway, the driver failed to tell us that he was not going to do either but was, instead, going to tow the truck all the way to Round Lake, IL. which is over an hour from our house. The accident occurred late Friday night and we did not get the car out of there until Wednesday. They are closed over the weekend and thus are not reachable until Monday morning. They then wanted $1200 to release the car. Luckily, our insurance company covered the cost but it took 2.5 extra days before the car was finally released. Had the driver been upfront with us and told us he would not be taking the car to our house and had we been able to reach them over the weekend, I might have given them two more stars but because of their lack of communication I am only giving them 1 star. Plus, my husband thinks they might have damaged the car even more while towing since they did not use a flat bed truck but we cannot prove it since no one thought of taking photos before the car was removed from the accident scene. read more

One of the most unprofessional and non-service freindly companies. First commited to 60 min to assist / tow our vehicle and two passengers from Downers Grove to Chicago. It took three phone calls from myself and the service provider to get them to arrive in just under Two hours vs. the one they comitted too. Perfect night and no weather issues. It was clearly established and approved on the initial call that their would be two passengers traveling back. They showed up with two "drivers" that reaked of smoke and in my opinion not the legal kind. The passenger decided to relieve himself in the alley of the restaurant we at....real nice... Nedless to say their responce was have my neice take a cab. We didn't know you had two passengers ...gentlemenly of them. Maybe his friend should have taken that cab. Continue reading if you'd like further details about my experience with Chicagoland Hxl Towing. I have road side assistance through one of my credit cards. When my SUV broke down, I called them to book a towing company. After calling a few service providers, we settled on this one. My credit card company handles the first 5 miles of the tow for $60.00. Any miles driven over that are the member/credit card holder's responsibility. My credit card rep explained this and told me there would be 11 miles of overage and this towing company wanted $7/mile to get my car to the shop I selected. I said no problem. Go ahead and run my card. This is when things when bad: First, when the Chicagoland HXL towing company representative called to tell me my vehicle was at my shop, he demanded my credit card number. I assumed my roadside assistance had ran my card for the balance, so I was skeptical. I checked my statement and it turned out the representative was correct - I did still owe a balance. I misunderstood. Completely my fault. I thanked the representative for his patience and offered to pay over the phone, but asked for his name and business address before providing my credit card number. He refused! I told him I did not feel comfortable just giving my cc number out to just anyone and would at minimum need his name. He finally identified himself as Pablo. I asked "Pablo" to speak with his manager and he refused. And then identified himself as the owner. I was surprised an owner of a business would behave this way Now worried "Pablo" would collect my cc number and run my card for an arbitrary amount or attempt to steal my identity - again I asked "Pablo" for his last name and businesses address. He then rambled something incoherently and began demanding my credit card number again or "he would take my SUV to his yard." The entire conversation was full of expletives and was by far and away the WORST customer experience with a towing company I've ever had. And I used to work for a car dealership - I've encountered many many tow truck companies. After multiple threats to essentially steal my SUV, I finally caved and provided my credit card number. What other choice did I have? "Pablo" said he would call me back with a confirmation number. He never did. When I tried to call him back directly (twice) to confirm my car had been "dropped" and get the confirmation number he promised, he ignored my phone calls. I also attempted to call his office/dispatch, they also refused to answer my calls. After having my car held hostage by this company and dealing with their unprofessional behavior - I called my roadside assistance program to report this incident and recommended they be removed from their network. read more

So about a month ago my moms car wouldn't start in the city make a long story short my husband and I called the insurance company and they send us these idiots basically the tow truck driver ends up hitting my car like a dumbass and this is where it gets interesting So trying to be nice not going through insurance first off I have to say we didn't notice the damage until I got home I've only had my car for three weeks at that time brand new we call the towing company whatever jerk we spoke with after two minutes of talking said let me call you back then he had the driver call us back which one is very unprofessional so the driver said we work with the autobody shop I will text you the information in 20 minutes that was a Saturday didn't hear from him at all what a surprise so my husband give them a call on Monday spoke with some douche bag name Brian gave us the info for this Body Shop I go to this Body Shop they never heard of Brian nor this horrible Chicagoland HXL towing so I leave I thought to myself I will just go to two other body shops get an estimate and send it to them my husband even contacted their insurance and told them what happened their insurance company told us to give them a week to see if they'll pay for it they finally picked a place out of the two estimates I went to Drop off my car out of all the douche bags that work there and don't communicate with each other one of the idiots call the Body Shop and said we would be dropping off a check for the repair on her car mind you I'm pretty sure I'll never get the money for the car rental either even though they agreed to pay for it the day that my car was ready what is shocker the check was not dropped off so I called to see what was going on I explain to no I'm speaking to the dumbest of dumb some guy named Jeff And lo and behold he tells me well I don't know who called there and I don't know who you spoke with but I was not the one that said we would drop the check off today no mind you this idiot Jeff is the one that we have been dealing with so I had to hear his sob story about him being sick and blah blah blah I said to him I'm sorry that you were sick but you need to communicate with your people better I need to return the rental car today I'm going back to work tomorrow and I need my car you guys made a deal with the Body Shop that you would drop the check off meanwhile he put me on speaker and some I would say alcoholic woman beater whoever the fuck he was but lo and behold I find out at the end he's the owner he proceeded to start screaming and swearing and threatening me and then he hangs up i'm pretty sure he kisses his mother with that mouth At that point I was thinking to myself I cannot believe I am at Mercy with these assholes to get my new car back the whole time they kept telling me they cannot get anybody out to the city to drop the check off but what a shocker within an hour or somebody went first stop to pay with a stolen credit card told the Body Shop they didn't have a check and they didn't have cash when the Body Shop figured out that the tow truck driver or whoever the hell that was to at that point I was thinking to myself I cannot believe I am at Mercy with these assholes to get my new car back the whole time they kept telling me they cannot get anybody out to the city to drop the check off but what a shocker within an hour somebody went first off to pay with a stolen credit card tell the body shop they didn't have a check and they didn't have cash when the body shop figured out that the tow truck driver or whoever the hell that was to came to Pay for my car I asked the guy for ID if he's going to use the credit card he said he didn't have one and he said he didn't have cash but then he walks back to his truck and pulled out $400 my long story is basically this company and the owner and every dumbass that works for them are a waste of a human being and they should be ashamed of themselves read more

Worse than "ambulance chasers" they arrived on the scene of my son's crash, told him they would tow car to their lot and insurance would cover cost, charged $85 per day and neglected to inform him they would be closed the ENTIRE holiday weekend. Absolute Joke informed me they towed my motorcycle because it was abandoned? I was never informed by phone mail email or was this published in any public advertisement. I called them for a lockup and they said they would be there in 30 minutes. 1 1/2 hours later no one showed up. I called them again and said that in 20 minutes. After those 20 minutes I called again and they stopped answering phone calls. After an hour a good guy offered to help me open the door. This towing company is useless and very unprofessional. read more

I contacted this company for a tow after my car broke down and the dispatcher/guy who answered the phone was SO RUDE. He never identified the company or said his name. He told me the truck would be there within the hour, it was a clear, warm, sunny day so nothing really should have held them up. He took my number in case they needed to call. Well after over an hour no one had shown up so I called again and the same guy answered. He asked if I was calling about the tow in "town name" and I said yes and he said ok he should be there in 20 minutes. So since he knew which town I was in they obviously didn't have a lot of calls coming in yet it took them over an hour and half to get to me! Luckily the driver was really nice and got my car to the mechanic so I give him 4 stars, but based on my experience as a whole I'd say avoid this place! read more

Twice, I saw these guys driving aggressively and illegally. Both times at Lincoln & School in Chicago. The first time (two months ago) the driver made a left turn at a red light because he was tired of waiting. Broad daylight with people and cars on the streets. Last night (rush hour), the driver got tired of waiting to proceed through the intersection at Belmont, so he pulled left into the lane going the wrong way, gunned it past 15 cars, made cars going the other direction swerve and stop to avoid him, and then forced himself back into the right lane.
