This guy is in the wrong business; he shouldn't be a realtor or a property manager. I was on his case constantly to do his job that he was paid to do. Doing business with him has cost me money. His incompetence is only matched by his childish attitude. Do you notice all the single stars he's getting? It's not a mistake or a conspiracy to gang up on him. I'm an out of state seller of an estate property. In my experience, Sean Morrissey strives to bully, manipulate and intimidate his clients to accomplish 'his' goals. He brings in an extremely low bid with buyers that realistically won't be able to complete the transaction. He refuses to analyze counter offer details and when asked about it, informs me that it is "not part of his job". He refuses to honor agreed upon changes to the listing agreement. He was too (busy, lazy, whatever) to regenerate the electronic documents with the requested changes. I guess I now understand why he demands a listing cancellation fee - he'll get a pound of flesh coming or going An example of communication from him: "You have a home in awful condition with a motivated buyer. You should be on your hands and knees thanking this buyer!" Oh yeah, I let him know before the start of this transaction that I am currently under going cancer treatment and needed a trouble free transaction. read more

I was referred to Sean by a realtor friend for management services. I live out of state and was looking for a company to assist with finding a tenant and collecting payments. All went well with Sean until I told him I would be selling the house as the lease was up in two months. I explained to him that the person that referred me to him would be my realtor. From that point on he emailed me stating he wanted to cease services with me immediately. We did have a contract that stated he would need to give 30 days notice prior to ceasing services. Sean has not replied to my many messages. I did email his office manager and asked what was going on with rent. She stated they haven't paid yet. Not sure why Sean feels our management contract is now void as lease is up end of Feb not to mention contract stated 30 days notice from either party. I hired Chicagoland Realty Group to manage my 1 bed/1 bath condo in the suburbs. I had heard numerous horror stories regarding property management groups so I did my due diligence to find the most reputable company. Sean Morrisey was far and away the most professional and personable person I spoke with during my search so I asked him to come out and view my property. I had a figure in mind that I was hoping we could rent the unit for, but after Sean viewed the unit, he told me the market value for the property was 20% more! I loved hearing that, but I had my doubts. Well... less than 10 days later, Sean found us an ideal tenant for the 20% more that he suggested. It should be noted that Chicagoland Realty Group charges a flat monthly fee, so the monthly rental fee is of no concern to Sean. His knowledge of the market brought in an additional $2000 in profit for me and my family! The communication is off the charts. Sean always replies to my emails within an hour, even on weekends. In addition, I have ran into two minor repair issues with my tenant and they were handled swiftly. I have used Chicagoland Realty Group for 8 months now and I have been impressed since day 1. I have held off in writing this review because I keep waiting to be disappointed, but I have come to believe that that day is not coming. If you have a property and are not yet ready to tackle the job of being a landlord, I highly suggest using Chicagoland Realty Group to manage your property. Yes, it will cost you some money, but Sean will do all the legwork for you, find you a great tenant, and take care of any problems along the way. read more

Sean was helpful in finding a tenant for our property, but his management skills and ethic were a bit disappointing. He lacked authority and maturity in dealing with a difficult tenant - the tone of his e-mails to her were disparaging of us, his clients. And this did not win him favor with the tenant. She took the offensive, threatening him more than once, and her threats seemed to work - cowed him in his future dealings with her. He failed to complete the promised quarterly inspections of the property and, when the lease expired and we expressed our desire to change property managers, he did not complete his contractual duty to provide us a final inspection. In the end, we do not feel we had been professionally represented by this agency. Upon notifying this landlord that she is in direct violation of Illinois Statue (765 ILCS 710/Security Deposit Return Act) this landlord terminated our services. This landlord is now being sued by her previous tenant and managed to leave our office a poor review in the interim. Reply from the landlord 1/26/15 We are so glad that business owner chose to respond to our review, proving our complaint to be on target. When he discredited another review, calling the reviewer unethical and unlawful, we thought, well, maybe so. Now that he has responded to our negative review with libelous untruths, we are thinking, "Probably not." On the advice of our new property manager, who completed an inspection of the property and found it to be filthy, we withheld from the deposit funds to cover cleaning costs and replacement of the garbage disposal, which she had broken. She received an itemized receipt with a check for the balance - incidentally this tenant refused to pay her final water bill, leaving it for the landlord to cover. Either the business owner completely made up his charges to discredit our review or he spoke to and believed the abusive former tenant before she received her check. Either way, any further childish response from this business owner should not and will not be taken seriously. As we told him earlier, he is amazing. read more

I have many opinions of the services of Chicagoland Realty Group and its sole proprietor, Sean Morrissey, but I will stick to documentable facts. Mr. Morrissey served as the agent in the sale of my home in Naperville. We had moved out of the house 4 years prior and had rented it out since to offset our mortgage. We had done this because we were severely underwater. As I now reside in Virginia, everything had to be done remotely. We were fortunate to get the house under contract shortly after it went on market. Relevant facts: - Mr. Morrissey assured me on several occasions that the appraisal would meet the agreed upon price. - The appraisal came in $5.5K below the agreed upon price. This was the exact amount that we were passing back to buyers to cover closing costs. - After Mr. Morrissey informed me of the difference, we were very nervous. The difference was so close that we would have still owed money on a house we had already sold. - In an attempt to keep the deal from falling apart, I thought of asking both the buying and selling agents if they would consider each forgoing $1.5K of the $10K+ both were scheduled to receive. - I attempted to call Mr. Morrissey on several occasions, but he did not reply. So I sent him my thoughts via email. - In several rounds of email, Mr. Morrissey addressed other facets of the sale, but nothing about the commission request. - I pleaded for Mr. Morrissey to talk over the phone. He emailed back and stated that I was making him and his company "a party to the contract." My interpretation was he was implying I was doing something unethical or illegal. I have been part of five real estate transactions and know this is a fairly common request in these situations. - He further stated that he refused to communicate via phone. So I was thousands of miles away with an agent who refused to talk. - The next morning I informed him that if he refused to talk, I would communicate my experience on review sites such as this one. Also, I filed a complaint with the Ombudsman. As Mr. Morrissey was the sole proprietor, I had no one else in his company to turn to. - He emailed backing stating he would report me to the Ombudsman, as well as pursue civil action. - From this point forward, I had to work through my lawyer and buying agent. - In speaking to the Ombudsman, he told me Mr. Morrissey's threats were idle, as the Ombudsman only had jurisdiction over agents. Furthermore, he stated it was my right to share my opinions online. - Previous to the breakdown in communication, Mr. Morrissey had set up a carpet cleaning, as required in the contract with the buyer. - With Mr. Morrissey's refusal to communicate, I dealt directly with the rep from Stanley Steamer. We agreed on a date and cost. - On the date of the cleaning, I got a strange call from the rep. According to her, when the cleaners showed up to the house, someone inside the house claimed to be me, stating I was no longer working with Chicagoland Realty Group and did not want the cleaning. - I was emphatic I was not in the home and to please go ahead with the cleaning. I asked her for details of who was in the home, but they never came. As this transaction started out under Mr. Morrissey's commercial account, this made me suspicious. - In talking to the buying agent, he was not surprised that the appraisal came in below agreed upon price. He stated that if Mr. Morrissey had more knowledge of the Naperville market, he would have known this. (Mr. Morrissey is based outside Naperville.) - The buying agent stated that if he knew Mr. Morrissey's lack of market knowledge, he would have shown up himself to the appraisal with neighborhood comps to help the appraiser. The buying agent felt it was likely that the appraiser simply saw the $5.5K passed back to the buyer and immediately cut this. Due to the past housing crisis, appraisers were extremely cautious. - Separately from the carpet cleaning, I had a regular cleaner come to the house. She alerted me afterwards that the sump pump seemed to be broken. I communicated this via email to Mr. Morrissey, but he never replied. The buying agent went himself to check. - Mr. Morrissey did not attend the closing. He also did not confirm when the closing was officially complete. read more

We are out of state landlords and CLPM has managed our home for us going on 5years. Although there have been a few minor "bumps in the road" we have been happy with the service provided by them. They do the quarterly inspection, as per our agreement, and let us know, with pictures, how it is looking. They also let us know when something is in need of repair and then they coordinate the repair. We had some issues with our 1st tenants and Sean helped figure out a solution that made all involved satisfied. After the tenants left, CLPM found us great tenants very quickly. They have always returned our calls or emails in a timely manner. Overall, we have been happy with CLPM. read more

Sean has tried to block my previous post based on the presumptive fact that "CLPM never had a client in Downers Grove named Dukes D." How ridiculous. I guess Sean doesn't know that people who use Yelp use aliases. And the property was not in Downers Grove. That's just where I lived when I opened the Yelp account years ago. Since I am updating this post I will also provide more details on how poor the "customer service" of Sean in particular was. A little over a month after renewing our annual management/maintenance contract, Sean contacted me to let me know CLPM would no longer be able to manage my property unless I signed a new contract agreeing to pay them more than 50% more than the existing contract. The ultimatum was either accept the increase or go find another property management company, with 30 days termination notice, effective immediately. Given the track record of what I had experienced with CLPM I found someone else. Of course Sean did this a month after he had just received the full annual rent amount of thousands of dollars for securing a tenant. I thought that was pretty pathetic.
