Pad Woon Sen, Pad Mama & Spring Rolls
    Jc G.

My go to when I want Thai. I've been going to the 1604 and Potranco locations for 7-8 years now. Can't go wrong with the lunch specials. My favorite is the Pad Woon Sen with Shrimp or Beef. Spring Rolls are delicious as well. Service is always quick and friendly.

Many of you are familiar with Thai Hut the restaurant but not this newly opened Thai market just a short distance down the road (or up the road depending on which way you're traveling). This is a smallish market located in a strip mall, next door to Bahama Bucks. Immediately upon entering you know you're in an Asian market. The entire store is rather antiseptic, with nothing but barren walls, and new shelves with Thai cooking staples adorning the shelves. Products are placed with like items e.g. fish sauce, soy sauce etc. together; various curry pastes collocated, you get the picture. Along with the canned and processed items you'll find a couple of coolers containing vegetables and cold drinks. We've needed an Asian market on this side of town and this will have to do for now. It's nowhere near the size of Tim's nor does it have the cool/hip factor of Minnano, but it'll have to do. So, if you're in need of some curry paste, coconut milk, palm sugar, and fish sauce, this place will hook you up.

They are not boiled before frying or seasoned and fried and they were terribly dry and crumbled when bitten. Chicharrones con carne are very popular and you should learn to make them like the Lubbock store. I wasted $17.00 at each store with no manager on site to refund my money based on the store lack of cooking or cleanliness. I expected so much more and was a terrible experience. Both stores could also use a good cleaning as well.

The customer service is good, greeted with a smile, and the staff was all smiles when I was there. They've got a place to eat in the corner with what I remember to be some darn good tacos, and the meat market is abundant with lots of choices to choose from. You can find your favorite Mexican snacks here, along with any typical Mexican groceries that you grew up with in your household. There's so much packed into a small place, so I recommend coming here if you're in the neighborhood. FYI: be cautious of the homeless people waiting for you to get out of your car in the parking lot, they will wait and approach you.

Service not sure about since I never received any other than the cashier. Ambience can be hectic depending on timing, it can get busy. I suggest go early and not later in day or you have a traffic jam of people in your way blocking isles. They have a wide selection of things and prices are ok. I do like their H-E-B brands a lot. Now the negatives. Sushi isn't that great, not sure why they even try if they're not going to make it right. For example, they give you 1 tiny piece of ginger and barely any wasabi... what? It doesn't cost much and the taste is so bland you need that for flavor and they choose not to give you any. Now when you get to the register if you pay by card you have to swipe it at least 11 times, not kidding. I asked if it was just me and they assured me it was normal and happens to everyone... so they know the issue yet they don't replace the system. Where I come from if something is broke, you fix it. +1 star for wide selection, +1 star for cleanliness, and +1 star for large meat selection. -1 star for selling bad ground beef. -1 star for inconvenience when checking out with a large line building behind you because you're swiping your card 11 times.

For those thinking that Walmart Neighborhood Market is Walmart's answer to HEB's Central Market…read more.. Let me dispel that misconception right off the bat - it is not. Walmart Neighborhood Market is nothing more than the food department ripped from your regular Super Walmart with various departments downsized. After walking the aisles I was convinced that there is nothing here that you can't buy there. The one surprise was the meat counter, small as it was, but nonetheless a meat counter. The fruit and vegetable area is small and the selection quite limited. I did not see any organic section, either. The store also has a pharmacy and your typical aisles containing various toiletries and household necessities. There is also one Redbox at this location. I rarely go into Walmart but when I do I usually have my cell phone's camera on standby because, well, usually you get shopping AND a show... I was a bit disappointed that Walmart Neighborhood Market did not have the latter but then again, considering its location... Anyway, it's a nice, new, shiny store with overly-friendly and accommodating staff - newbies! The selection isn't quite as good as your full-sized Walmart or HEB Plus but it has all the staples without the enormous parking lot associated with the larger "Super" stores. It's best for canned goods, frozen foods, ice cream/frozen desserts, and sundry items. I would not recommend it for fruits and vegetables or meats and fish.

The frozen selection is amazing! They've got heaps of food that has been imported from afar to end up here under ice. There's a small produce selection that seems to favor plantains. If they don't have it fresh, they'll have it frozen. My favorite were the large African sculptures they were selling by the door. The clerk was friendly and said "hi" when I came in. The merchandise looked all pretty fresh. I wish there were some things to help explain what some of the ingredients and products were. It'd be nice if they had recipes or cards that explained that these items are snacks, and these are ingredients. But if I had any questions, the clerk was happily standing by to answer.
