Went in for a pound of barbacoa on a Sunday morning, there was a line to order (that's a good thing.) Barbacoa is sold until they sell out. They offer barbacoa specials with everything made fresh! Salsa and tortillas. Don't forget to grab your pan dulce!!! I grew up in a Hispanic household and to know that this carniceria is right down the street from us makes me feel like I'm picking up food from my Mom/Tia's house. Definitely recommend, it may not be everyone's cup of tea but good barbacoa is hard to find in the Stone Oak area. read more

I understand that at this difficult time for getting employees in retail as consumers we need to be more accommodating. However, on today's visit I picked what I perceived to be about 1/2 pound of carnitas. At the register the cashier charge was for more than a pound. I paid but felt uncomfortable with the charge $10.32 so before leaving the store I went back to have the purchase re-weighed. Long story short, the senior cashier got involved and the true weight was less than 1/2 pound and I paid $4 and change. All that is fine and ended well. What was wrong was the attitude of the first cashier (the receipt says Catalina) as her demeanor was one of bother for me claiming. As I was leaving, as a courtesy I apologized. She gave me my change and brushed me off without even a thank you or an acknowledgement of fault or acceptance of my apology. I write so management will take note to train the newbies for this situation. All the other employees in this establishment are top notch courteous and friendly. Catalina needs an early wake up call. I gave 3 stars in the hope that management takes notice, otherwise I'd give 5 stars under normal circumstances. read more

Barbacoa is "de cachete" (cheek) and not other cheaper, less flavorful cuts. Flour tortillas are made in store and taste good. If you order eggs be very clear as to the dones you want otherwise they will serve you overcooked rubbery eggs. Pan dulce is mostly good or very good. Tamales are a 3 out of 5 at best. Such a great little place! We just moved to the area and we're excited to have a market within walking distance. Everyone is very friendly including the customers. The prices are reasonable and they have a huge selection. There is a little area where you can purchase made in store carnitas, tamales, menudo etc. we ordered a family meal for $15 and it included barbacoa, refried beans, corn tortillas, soda and salsa. Everything was delicious but I have to say- I'm a sucker for fresh flour tortillas. They didn't disappoint! Delish!!! The bonus for us is that we finally found good chips! Homemade tortilla chips like we used to find in El Paso, San Diego and Sacramento. We also purchased a few marinated meats and will try them within the week. I can't imagine they will taste anything less than fabulous but I'll let ya know if they surprise me. read more

We have been searching for an alternative to the local grocery stores for meats due to the extremely high prices they are getting. I think we may have found it. The meat prices here were very competitive. There was a good selection too. We buy a considerable amount of hamburger meat and this was very good and priced well below the other places. The wait and see was the flavor. After tasting a batch of burgers I would say this will be our new meat supplier. There are other things here also i.e. produce that may compete with the other places also. give them a try and see how it works for you. read more

They are always so nice. Its so nice and clean inside. Always busy too. I work up the road from them. We go over on the weekends to get tacos for the whole crew, or just to get snacks and drinks we don't have. Maybe one day soon I will come to buy other things then just the usual tacos. read more

After having lunch next door we stopped in to check it out. I found the store to be clean, well stocked and full of interesting food items to tantalize your recipes. Disgusting flies in the bakery sections. Flying in the enclosed cases of cookies cupcakes, donuts. It makes you wonder what other pests insects are in there crawling around the bakery goods. I did not stay to inspect but gross! Told someone about the flies and the girl said she Would get to it. She did not seem to care. Maybe it happens all the time. Store is a bit small and hidden behind the auto zone. This is the only Culebra Location I've seen where they make their flour tortillas fresh. So far the best culebra market in San Antonio. I don't buy any produce due to HEB being cheaper and more variety. I do however buy Mexican creams and cheeses that HEB doesn't carry. Their Barbacoa is pretty good and the tamales as well if your gonna compare it to other Places in town. Their Tripas are decent as well. read more

I got the most degrading treatment and worst service ever from the butcher today at Culebra Meat Market on Encino, in San Antonio TX. Instead of attending to me this "butcher" just walked off!!! The worst thing was that the other "butchers" just stood by and did not help either. When I asked to speak with someone in authority, they had none on site!!!! Clean, nice, great selection of meat and fresh produce. The only place this side of town I could find Zote. We bought tamales and chicarrones and they were delicious. Meat prices are excellent. The store is nice but I while I was standing in line to checkout I asked the girl making tortillas if they carried Epazote and she basically threw a hissy fit and said idk as if to tell me to go look myself. But the problem is she just had to simply tell me whether or not they carried it. I immediately just told her nevermind and let her be because I had no idea what I did to piss her off. They other employees I interacted with were kind but I don't think I'll be going back. Tamales on the north side! Excellent to have this much needed market on the far north side. Pork tamales, barbarcoa and freshly made tortillas are awesome!!!! They also have a good selection of pan dulce. I always have excellent customer service each time I go. No complaints. read more
