We live right near Wholly Guacamole in Whitsett and have eaten there many times. We've always loved the food and had good experiences with the staff, which makes this even more disappointing. On March 22, I called about placing a catering order for our rehearsal dinner. Later that same day, after getting a couple of other quotes, we went into the restaurant to place the order in person. There was a bit of a language barrier with the manager, so a waitress kindly helped communicate everything. I kept the order very simple--just ground beef and chicken for 100 tacos (no shells or toppings), along with chips and salsa. The waitress confirmed everything with the manager, gave me the total, and I approved it. She provided a receipt, and the manager even wrote the pickup date and time on it: April 17 at 4:30 PM. We were also told to bring the receipt when we came to pick up the order, so I held onto it. On April 16, we called to confirm the order and were told to call back the next day. On April 17, we called at 11:10 AM with no answer, then again at 1:00 PM and were given the runaround because no one could find our order. Finally, around 2:00 PM--just hours before pickup--we received a call from the owner asking for details about the order. We explained everything and even texted a photo of the receipt as proof. That's when we were told that the owner had never approved the order and that we would have to pay more than the agreed price if we still wanted the food. Otherwise, they would not make it. At that point, just two hours before our rehearsal dinner, we were left scrambling. Despite having placed the order a full month in advance, having names of the staff we worked with, and having a receipt with the details clearly written out, we were essentially told that their internal miscommunication was now our financial responsibility. This added an incredible amount of stress to what was supposed to be a joyful and meaningful day. To be clear, the food itself has always been great, and we've had positive experiences with the staff. However, this situation was handled very poorly at the ownership level. As someone whose family also owns a business, I truly believe that issues like this should be handled internally--not passed on to the customer. Unfortunately, because of this experience, we will not be returning.

The chicken was moist and flavorful, still very hot from the fryer. Hot enough that I had to start with a knife and fork to tear it up before I could dig in. My sides were okay. The potato salad was a mush. Pleasant flavor but no texture that leaned into mashed territory. The mac and cheese was good but overdone noodles and no "tang" from the cheese. When home I add a bit of diced celery, a touch of chopped onion, a bit of dill relish, some parsley, a some of my home made curry powder - damn, that rocks!
