We stopped here after shopping at the outlet mall. I honestly wasn't in the mood for this, but we decided to try it anyway. I was very pleasantly surprised because it was much better than I anticipated. The chicken was tender and juicy and we had fried yucca and rice with it, and the cookies, called alfajor. This Alpaca location has some catching up to do compared to others. The chicken lacks that signature deep, smoky flavor I expect. During my last visit, I tried the fried rice, but it was partially undercooked and crunchy, so I ended up throwing most of it away. Consistency is a real issue here--on another occasion, I had to wait so long for a side of fries that the rest of my meal was cold by the time they arrived. I hope they can get their timing and quality control back on track. read more

Wish we had one in Greensboro. I was impressed that they make the entrees after you order. Very fresh and flavorful. I don't remember what the special of the day was called but it was absolutely delicious. Obviously well seasoned chicken with rice and beans however it was supposed to be served on top of a bed of fries but this location was completely out of fries so I deducted one star because how can you run out of fries? The sauces were really good the green sauce has quite a nice spice to it the yellow sauce kind of reminds me of a yum yum sauce that is mayonnaise based. A lot of the people that were in the restaurant were eating the quarter chicken or half chicken dinners and they continually have birds in the rotisserie so I'm sure they are very fresh all day long. This has been a go to spot for my husband and I when we want something but not fast food. We have always enjoyed the food here, but lately every time we go it seems they have enough French fries for one of us and the other has to wait for more to be made and by the time you get these fries you are almost if not finished with your food and really don't want them. Yesterday we didn't get the fries at all and when we went up after we were finished with our food and ready to go to tell the girl she told us she would put the fries in a to go box. Really! The person at the counter needs to communicate with those working with the fryers a little better. read more

A newly opened business that I had heard a lot about so I expected it to be busy. And it was but there wasn't much of a wait. We ordered a whole chicken that came with two sides. The chicken was cut up into eight pieces. The sides were served in family size portions. The chicken was very moist and had a nice taste to it. I've had Peruvian chicken that was put on an open flame after being cut. This wasn't, but it was still good. The corn was buttery and delicious. The jasmine rice was nice and fluffy. The sauce had a nice flavor. They have a nice menu, reasonably priced and specials of the day. I will definitely be returning to try some of the other menu options. read more

Boston Market meets Latin-inspired sides... That's the immediate vibe I got upon walking in. Glass serving counter where they take the rotisserie chickens and carve them up into quarters, halves, or whole, then combining with sides as you move down the line to the cashier. Massive rotisserie ovens behind the servers just like Boston Market... Up-charged "premium" sides like Yuca... really? One of the most common street food sides in any Latin restaurant is a premium?? Of course I saw the cookies sitting pretty atop the serving line as I neared the cash register and decided to try them... Alfajores... $7.50 for two cookies... never again. Admittedly, the food was tasty and the chicken (just like Boston Market of old) was very flavorful and juicy. Recently visited this restaurant and found that although the chicken is quite delicious, the portions are small for the price. In addition, the menu says that it comes with 2 sides. It does not designate what those sides are.. apparently rice and beans are not upcharged. A half chicken costs a pricey $15.. I have been a loyal customer of the Alpaca location in Chapel Hill, NC, for the past two years. Tonight, they failed to get my order right. I ordered the same thing I've ordered nearly every time I've visited the store but they forgot to include the plantains.. Delicious clean "fast" food! My toddler loved the food which is saying a lot. We got the full chicken cut into 8 parts with 2 sides. For the sides we chose the rice and yuca fries. We also added on a side salad with a delicious cilantro vinaigrette. Highly recommend going here! read more

Delicious!! I have been waiting for this for months and Alpaca in mebane finally opened. With it being opening day, i expected it to be crazy busy but I was in, ordered and received my made to order food all within 15 minutes. The staff was so friendly and efficient. I loved the murals on the walls of Peruvian cities and communities. I got the pollo saltado, which is a bed of fries topped in onions, tomato, chicken and a savory sauce with a side of cilantro rice. Even the rice was some of the best I've had. The guest i was with got a chicken quarter with fries and slaw and said the slaw was out of this world. I'm new to Peruvian food and have never tried an Alpaca before, will be coming back here. read more

Love this place for the Peruvian experience. Their lomo saltado is the best I've ever had - it's a mix of steak, fries, tomatoes, and red onion. But their pollo saltado is, dare I say it, even better. Their rice and beans with the green sauce is my crack. I could eat that for the rest of my life and be happy. (The sauces are available by the soda machine. The green is a little spicy). I usually grab some alfajores and save them for my coffee the next morning. They're a shortbread cookie with a dulce de leche center. It's the largest Alpaca location so far. Complete with an alpaca that greets you when you walk in. There are photos of Peru adorning the walls. A very welcoming vibe when you walk in. The service is quick and friendly. My husband would bring home Alpaca from the UNC location. I recommend everyone try this place. The food is cooked in an open kitchen concept. Lots of tables available inside and out. They put your food together as you pick and choose like an assembly line (unless you order online and do pickup). You can see chickens cooking in the giant rotisserie oven. The chickens according to the store website are hormone-free, locally raised and free from all major FDA allergens. The chicken portions are large and the meat moist. The rice is tender and cooked well. The black beans are simmered and tender. Maduros are delicious with a nice caramelized exterior. Yuca fries taste like buttery yukon gold potatoes, very good. Green beans are tossed in a fresh garlic sauce. The tostones were a bit bland and tough for my liking. Yellow corn tastes like canned corn. The two condiment sauces served with the food are a pureed jalapeño sauce and a mustard/mayo yellow sauce both are delicious! The horchata drink is delicious but sweet, I recommend trying it at least once. The franchise recently updated their online app to place to go orders for quick pickup and offer a free entree after sign up and on your birthday. You can even earn points on purchases, 100 points will earn you a $10.00 reward to apply towards food. read more

I stopped in with a friend on our way from Greensboro to Durham. It's a new location and really well laid out for different types of patrons. Tables, booths, counters, outdoor tables. Nice variety of items in the menu. I had 1/4 white, black beans, coleslaw and yucca fries. My order at the counter was plated up on reusable plate and bowl, with a couple disposables. I had a really nice drink that was sold by the portion. No free refills on this one, but tea and fountain drinks are available. The sauces are from pump dispensers, serve yourself. A reasonable price for an excellent meal, quickly served in a very nice space. read more

To say I am disappointed is an understatement. Had lunch today and ordered Arroz Chaufa. The menu board advertised it had both chicken and sausage. The picture below shows the size of the chicken. Notice that it is almost the same size as the rice. When I asked a young lady that stopped by our table to check on us why there was so little chicken in the dish she went to check. She came back and said they told her there was 1/4 cup of chicken in the dish & if I wanted more I would to pay for it. Now, I didn't ask for more, I asked why there was so very little in the dish. I should have paid more than $4 less and got a 1/4 chicken with sides. Since management didn't bother to come out or really address my issue I will simply go somewhere else. So sad they turned into a one and done restaurant. We had high hopes. read more

I have been here twice. The food is very good. The first time I went they had "run out of chicken" and we had to repeatedly ask for our order. Someone finally made it for us. We ordered at home online and still had to wait approximately 40 minutes after we got to the store. I assumed it was a one off incident. I just ordered online again. My order was 1/2 chicken and two sides. I get there after ordering online and it's not there. Ok. They start looking and can't find it. I'm again told " we ran out of chicken". I see about 100 chickens cooking in the back and incredulously raise my eyebrows. I'm then told " you can have all dark or you can wait 20 minutes". I recall my last visit and the very slow movement of the line next to me and just take the dark meat. No offer of anything extra is made to compensate for not getting what I paid for. They also forgot to give me the sauce I ordered and didn't close the food container. I also left them a nice tip for pickup. Joke is on me. This place is very frustrating. read more

We had a wonderful experience at the new Alpaca in Mebane! Tastes I'd never experienced before and everything was delectable. Local Mexican restaurants are going to have to step up to compete with this south of the border addition to our county. Peruvian food is delicious prepared the Alpaca's way. The prices are reasonable, large portions, and no flimsy Styrofoam take home containers. Quality reusable/recyclable containers instead. Impressive! We'll be back, and probably often.
