Been coming here for years. They've changed the outside but still the same inside. Nothing wrong with that but good as usual, reasonably priced and delicious.

The pic doesn't convey the elevation of this huge portion!

My dad was visiting from out of state and we were on our way to see his childhood home in Adelphi when we hit red at the intersection and a smoky mass of intense rotisserie aromas enveloped our car and everyone started screaming at me that "IT IS TIME TO EAT, NNNOOOWWW!!!" Ok fine, so I pull over and Siri open Yelp. No reviews, what? But the Yelp map has lots of other 4 star heavily reviewed places close, isn't that safer? At this point I subject myself to internal ridicule, "You worthless, spineless nitty. You used to crash the most unlikely dive joints with a sense of adventure and pure fearlessness. Now you've let the 40 minutes you've been in Maryland turn you into a freaking liberal--mind dependent on the governmental validation of other Yelp Dukes and her backslappers before you trudge into the unknown. Are you afraid of being a first? Can you proceed without The Safetynet?" A swift turn of the wheel, and a plume of diesel exhaust moved our Eco-enemy Excursion into the parking lot. It was packed. We walked in as throngs were walking out with large styrofoam containers. We then joined the quickly moving line. The menu offered beef fajitas, teriyaki items, fried rice, various stews, salads, and more; but clearly, the star of this show is their rotisserie chicken. Under $9 gets you a 1/2 chicken with two sides. I saw spaghetti, green beans, rice, dirty rice[black beans/white rice], plantains, beans, sweet corn, french fries, salad and several others I can't recall. As we were in line the rotisserie guy opened up the oven revealing full racks of whirling birds over a brisk hardwood inferno. Unlike the overly brine inflated Costco Jenny's you may know, these are the real deal. The chicken is coated in an amazing dry rub then seared with almost crispy skin. The smoky flavor penetrates all the moist meat--it's quite impressive and delicious. It also comes with my favorite Aji Peruvian green sauce and the yellowish mayonnaise based sauce (not sure what it's called). A few of the sides could use a bit of retooling--fries, corn, and green beans excepted. The noodles tasted like canned, the rice overlooked, and a quite frankly way too thick "tortilla". It looked like the illegitimate child of Mr. Sope and Ms. Pita, very dense and almost wet. They would be better off with a traditional tortilla that is foldable and in my perfect world offered in corn or flour. The plates/portions are #HUGE. Two can share. The seating is sparse and typical fast foodish. Nothing fancy. Chicken Loco is worth a visit. Enjoy!

Half chicken with two sides $8.96 (totally worth it)

I've been passing by this place for many years and after a friend recommended it, I'm glad I decided to try it. During my most recent visit I was really impressed with my experience. Although the line was long, it moved very quickly. The staff is very friendly and my meal was absolutely delicious. You will definitely get a lot for your money here. Although Sardi's and some other Peruvian spots are probably more popular, this place is certainly a hidden gem. You will not be disappointed!!

I've been twice now and brought different people each time. The indoor seating is spacious, and it's usually pretty easy to get a table. The music is at a comfortable level, so you can actually have a conversation without shouting, which I really appreciate. I can't speak for the drinks since I didn't order any, but the food is excellent. My standout dishes were the corazon anticuchos. The chimichurri they come with is incredibly flavorful. The pescado a lo macho is also fantastic; it has a rich, curry-like sauce served with white rice, and the combination is genuinely comforting. Definitely don't skip the tostones. We tried the pork tostones, and the portion of pork on top was generous to say the least. That said, I would personally skip the pork belly bao buns, the meat was a bit too tough for my liking. The desserts are good, but I'd recommend sharing them, as they can get quite heavy after a few bites. Overall, I'll definitely be coming back. This has become a new go-to spot in DC for me. Ceviche Mixto: Light and Refreshing. Decent. Coredero Con Raviolis: Lamb Ravioli. A little gamey.

It hasn't really bounced back just yet. But I also feel like we are in a bubble too. Our street looks vacant, but once you walk to one end of the block or other, the opportunities are within sight. I have seen this place when I have had the pleasure to drive into work. However, it's not an establishment that I would walk to for lunch. DC blocks can be super long to walk and it can take a while to cross the busy streets. With our event coming up I figured why not. We went with the 40 Person Package from their catering menu. I think they under-describe this. It states it is for 40 people, but the amount of food you receive can easily feed more than that. Especially when it comes with four full pan sized side dishes. Definitely enough food to feed a crew and have leftovers. For our sides we went with White Rice, Plantains, Mashed Potatoes, and House Salad. All the food was received well by our crew and they were pleased to be able to partake in what was left after the meal was done. The White Rice comes with peas and carrots right in it. The Plantains are fried perfectly. Mashed Potatoes were velvety (sadly they appear to have taken them off the menu since we ordered). And the House Salad was a light side to rest of the rich food. What was over the top here was the delivery of the food. This was two weeks post snowstorm and the streets of DC were still mini mountains to climb. Our delivery person was amazing with the delivery. He, however, had the mishap of the mashed potatoes deciding to ditch before being delivered. He was very apologetic, cleaned it off the sidewalk outside, and went back to the restaurant to bring a fresh tray. That is superb service in my mind.

I'll have to try that next time, but this time I got the Ceviche Nikkei, Lucky 12 (4pcs of 3 different types of siu mai), and the Aji de Gallina. My favorite was the ceviche nikkei; it was so refreshing and the tuna was the perfect texture! Out of the three types of siu mai, the siu mai tradicional was my favorite. The pollo siu mai has like a salsa in it that was very unique but not my favorite. The Aji de Gallina was very hearty and comforting. The chicken pieces themselves were fine but the stew was so delicious. The real star of the show was the dessert: ponderaciones de kiwicha! The banana ice cream it comes with was phenomenal, it pairs so well with the cocoa powder! I would come back just for dessert! The ambiance is really nice! Decor is super cute, the light fixtures are really cool! Service was great!

Unfortunately, the customer service did not match the quality of the food. The service was slow, inattentive, and lacked the level of hospitality you'd expect. It was difficult to get our server's attention, and we often felt overlooked throughout the meal. While the kitchen clearly delivers an excellent dining experience, the front-of-house service needs significant improvement. I would return for the food, but I hope the customer service improves because it took away from what could have been a fantastic experience.

Far from a standard dining experience, the multi-course tasting menu here is a masterclass in storytelling through food, structured around Peru's distinct topographical regions. Every course is presented with insight and depth of the food you are able to consume. The flavors are bold. The courses are well thought through. The service is impeccable. From start to finish, we were greeted with warmth. Everything you eat wakes up the palate without overwhelming you. If you aren't into seafood, this journey through Peru may not be for you. We settled on the four course tasting menu and ordered an extra ceviche. To be honest, this felt more like a seven course meal. The textures, color and artistry are unparalleled. Causa isn't just a meal--it's an evocative, deeply memorable exploration of Peruvian gastronomy. It is absolutely a must-visit for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion or experience culinary storytelling at its absolute finest. We had reservations to dine at Amazonia, we arrived before our reservation time and were greeted not very amicably. The service the rest of the night was equally as mediocre. Our waitress was unfriendly and didn't check in as often as needed. We were done with our food and a good 20 min went by without getting the dessert menu we had requested. When we were done another 15 min went by before we got the check even though there were only 3 tables occupied. We sat in the patio, the ambiance was nice but the cherry on top of the mediocre food and bad service was when we saw a mouse running under the tables. Luckily it was when we were waiting for our check because I would have definitely left mid dinner. Definitely not the dinner experience we were hoping for. Now on to the food: I will start off by saying that we love Peruvian food. We have traveled to Peru a few times specifically to try their amazing cuisine. We have tried various Peruvian restaurants in DC (at different price points) and around the US and this one without a doubt has been the worst. - lomo saltado: we ordered this because it is hard to mess up this dish. It is always tasty! Well, somehow it was not the case. The sauce was way too thick and tasted like straight up tomato puree. - ceviche amazonico- the portion was small, the sauce was tasty but nothing memorable. It was too fishy in a bad way. - papas de huancayo- these were the best out of all the dishes ordered. But weren't amazing. We order a pasta, I forgot the name, with a ragu sauce- it was ok-ish. Is this even Peruvian? For dessert we had the chocolate cake with Lucuma ice cream- the portion was tiny. Again it was ok, but nothing amazing or memorable. Overall the food was not at all what we were hoping for. The portions don't match the steep prices. And the flavors are not there. At least not the traditional Peruvian flavors. The service was terrible but of course they automatically add a 20% service fee on the tab. What motivation do the servers have to do a good job if they know they are getting the tip anyways? Overall this was a bad experience, we won't be back and won't recommend.
