Need to pay more attention to the reviews that say the following: small servings (siu mai were half the size than regular anywhere else), ceviche also super small serving - good flavor but not much and not served with anything to eat it with (like chips), Tam tam noodles were overcooked and mushy, brussel sprouts were delicious (!), lomo saltado was meh (undercooked pieces of onion, nice chunks of beef but kind of chewy, super salty sauce but was good soaked up by the fries). After serving our dish & pouring water, we didn't see the server until we were finished. He didn't ask how we were doing or if we needed anything. The atmosphere is pleasant and upbeat. There is a weekday and weekend menu. Brunch is popular on the weekend. The menu is a bit pricey. We had a nice table near the window. If you want more privacy, sit at either end of the restaurant. It gets busy and crowded in the middle. Hubby ordered an amazing pasta dish. It was flavorful and nicely plated. My quinoa was wonderful. I enjoy using lettuce to wrap items. If our server had stopped by, I would have asked for more lettuce. The desert was wonderful. The texture, flavors and plating were great. It is obvious that each dish is carefully checked before leaving the kitchen. The manager eventually stopped by. When he learned we had been ignored, he offered desert. We thought he was offering coffee as part of the apology. He was not. Our server started taking interest in us after desert, when the manager had spoken to him and we didn't need him anymore. Fun little concept of Chinese and Peruvian fusion food as the name suggests. I was eating by myself so I tried passionate fruit juice and the lomo saltado, unfortunately not the Chinese fusion food. The drink and food I'd say is pretty standard. The Lomo Saltado dish, however, I'd say that it's just a bit too salty, and the beef steak is slightly overdone, but only slightly. I'll have to try that next time, but this time I got the Ceviche Nikkei, Lucky 12 (4pcs of 3 different types of siu mai), and the Aji de Gallina. My favorite was the ceviche nikkei; it was so refreshing and the tuna was the perfect texture! Out of the three types of siu mai, the siu mai tradicional was my favorite. The pollo siu mai has like a salsa in it that was very unique but not my favorite. The Aji de Gallina was very hearty and comforting. The chicken pieces themselves were fine but the stew was so delicious. The real star of the show was the dessert: ponderaciones de kiwicha! The banana ice cream it comes with was phenomenal, it pairs so well with the cocoa powder! I would come back just for dessert! The ambiance is really nice! Honestly, it's average food at above average prices. The ambiance is what you're paying for here, because the space is pretty cool. I was surprised at how busy it was, despite the average tasting food. It is loud and difficult to have conversations, so that is worth considering. I got to sample quite a few dishes, and aside from Siu Mai, I don't think there's a single dish I would order again. I love Peruvian food and Chinese food, but this didn't work for me. I had no idea there was another José Andres spot in a two block radius - and it was worth the visit! Our server was attentive and made a great recommendation on the cauliflower when we decided to get another dish. We especially loved the ceviche Nikkei - great flavor and texture. The Hong Kong rich noodle dish was so so compared to the rest. And the dessert - yum! Tasted like caramel with passion fruit ice on top. Overall experience was great! I recommend getting a reservation if you're eating here between 6-8pm. Although you can make it the day of! It's family style here and my two favorite dishes were the dancing yucca and hamachi ceviche! It really brought out the two Hispanic and Asian cultures to me. We enjoyed our weekend brunch. We order 2 ceviches to share, a tuna and octopus. All of us loved the tuna. One didnt care for the octopus. For entrees, we ordered the cheeseburger from the brunch menu which was fantastic. We didnt care for the plantain sides though. We're fans of Chef José Andrés whole make the world a better place vibe and have made it our mission to try all of his DC restaurants whenever we're in town. This time up it was China Chilcano...Pervian/Asian/Spanish fusion food with lots of vegetarian options and unique things to try. We (my wife, son and I) all got variations of the tasting menu and each made different choices from the options available...and we each had different experiences. I had a bit of a "the grass is greener" experience as I tried bits of what my son had ordered and generally preferred what he got in terms of taste and texture. Universally, the food was gorgeous and presented in a photo-ready manner one would expect from this kind of establishment. The desserts were also unique and worth trying. (Often desserts at a nicer place can be standard variations of the same thing you can get anywhere...what's on the menu here is worth sticking around for as you can't get it anywhere else. I also had a Pisco Sour Cocktail...I'm a fan of trying the things that are unique to where I am...in this case, the cocktail looked and tasted great, but it had more of a standard sour vibe than anything else. If the Peruvian pisco liquor had any unique taste, I wasn't able to perceive it in this cocktail. Service was perfect. read more

Unfortunately, the customer service did not match the quality of the food. The service was slow, inattentive, and lacked the level of hospitality you'd expect. It was difficult to get our server's attention, and we often felt overlooked throughout the meal. While the kitchen clearly delivers an excellent dining experience, the front-of-house service needs significant improvement. The food was amazing, we did The tasting menu and it did not disappoint! Some really unique flavors and things that don't normally go together that worked perfectly! Skye our server was incredible, went above and beyond to make our experience great! We also learned about Peruvian cuisine and Pisco! Love the decor, felt very cozy! The only weird thing that happened, we added on the all you could drink wine to go along with our tasting menu. There were three reds and three whites to choose from. Things were going along great and then a manager in a suit asked if we needed anything and we asked for the next White on the list. He brought it to us then told us this was the last one in our tasting. We mentioned that the menu says all you can drink. The portions they poured were tasting size portions each time, and our plan was to try each of them. We pointed out what the menu said, he said let me check. He brought Luis over who agreed that's what the menu said. Ultimately, we had a good time, but that made us feel weird that we had to even point that out when it was very clear on the menu. I've included the photo of the menu in case upper management would like to make sure if it is not all you can drink to change the wording. And if it is to make sure Mgmt. doesn't make guests feel uncomfortable for asking for more. read more

Solid restaurant with flavorful and interesting dishes. Plates are a bit small, but you can still expect to be full and without leftovers. I tried the Donburi Ji Song (without avocados or cilantro) and the Tam Tam noodles. The chicken in the donburi was quite flavorful, but the portions were small. I thought there would be more chicken with the amount of rice given. The Tam Tam noodles were excellent, and I would highly recommend this dish. It combined the delicious knife-cut noodle texture with a unique spicy sauce that I thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant overall has an interesting concept - Chinese, Japanese, and Peruvian fusion food. I would be curious to see how more of their dishes taste with this unique cultural cuisine fusion. read more

Came on 10/29/25 for their free donburi for federal workers and this place was packed. the inside is so funky and well laid out with warm and vibrant reds and golds. We were seated fairly quickly considering it was peak lunch time (12-1230) and while we didn't get a table, the seating at the ceviche bar was enough space to get the job done. We had: Shrimp & pork dumplings - 10/10 - the texture on these were amazing and the sauce it was paired with was the perfect 50/50 for sweet and spicy. Enjoyed it so much I added it to my donburi. Donburi Ji Song - 8/10 - I'm so appreciate of Chef Andres support during the federal shutdown. To get something of this quality for free was amazing and I'd def try it again. That being said I do think they couldn't these ingredients in bulk and am not sure if it's meant to be served cold. Even cold it was amazing and filled with soooo many textures I was in heaven. 4.5 stars. A very solid Jose Andres place. Right now, due to the government shutdown Feds get a free main dish at all of his places. At China Chilcano, it's one of their Donburi Rice Bowls; just pick whichever one you want if you're a Fed. My wife is and she loved her bowl-- a chicken one that was one of the specials--and I really enjoyed mine, the Donburi del Camaron, I just think it needed a little more heat (there was one arbol chile that was easy to miss and didn't add much) or maybe some more Oyster sauce. I also got no ginger zip, despite it being thinly sliced on top. The black beans seemed to be missing on mine and the rice didn't taste all that fresh. The Dancing Yucca appetizer and the Kam Lu Wantan (our server's recommendation) were both amazing. Our meal was under $80 with tip and it was a blast. Both of our mains were under $20, which does not happen in this part of DC. the appetizers were also well priced, so i'm not sure why people are complaining about the prices. I came in here with my parents on a random Tuesday for lunch after seeing some of the museums. There was a slight lunch crowd but nothing that slowed down service or being sat. The staff was really nice and friendly and we ended up talking quite a bit. We got iced teas which were really great. Then I got a ceviche which was yummy but smaller, perfect for a lite meal. My parents both got the lunch special with the dumplings which were good and the grilled peppers which my dad loved. Both of their entrees were yummy but the star of the show was the dessert. My friend Came down from Pennsylvania to visit and we decided to splurge on dinner in celebration, so we ordered the tatami, which was a multi-course menu of the "chef's favorite dishes," which was a fusion of Peruvian, Chinese, and Japanese cuisine. The first to come out was two seafood dishes, one with octopus in a olive sauce topped with avocado. The texture of the octopus was great, and the flavors were subtle, allowing the ingredients to shine. The other, I forget what type of fish it was, was more punchy with the sauce being creamy and tangy, and topped with nice chewy pieces of maíz. The next dish to come out was a sort of mashed potato topped with crab and fish roe. It was chilled, slightly sweet, and came with a aioli-like dipping sauce. Then came the next two dishes. One was ceviche like, with tuna and jicama seasoned with soy sauce, lime, and vinegar (I'm guessing) along with a cured egg yolk that gave a nice jammy addition to the dish. Then there was the dumplings which were filled with minced pork and shrimp and deep fried, served with a tamarind sauce. Both were amazing! The food just kept coming out and now we were on the prelude to the finale. Chili wontons, quinoa salad cups, and vegetarian dumplings. I really enjoyed the chili wontons and the intensity of the doubanjiang. The other two dishes didn't leave much of an impression though. Lastly came out three entrees, lomo saltado, fried rice, and some noodles. The lomo saltado was amazing, it was like eating small pieces of steak, the quality of the meat was amazing and had a beautiful crust on it. The sauce was so savory and salty, and the fries soaked it all up. It was so good we saved the rest of it to mix in to one of the sides of rice they brought earlier. The noodles were great as well, with a spicy meat sauce and crushed peanuts on top. The fried rice had a nice subtle flavor and came topped with a variety of toppings that added nice texture. I was surprised, but apparently the meal came with two deserts as well! The first was a fried dough with banana ice cream and shaved chocolate, and the other was a caramel with passion fruit on top. Both were very creative and tasted amazing. The service was amazing, and our server was very attentive. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great as well, very beautifully decorated. This is my second time to this restaurant. The weather was so beautiful that we sat outside on the patio. They had quite a few tables outside, and they were quite roomy. I encourage you to sit outside if the weather is nice. The service was also quite attentive outside as well, which sometimes can be an issue when you are sitting on the patio. Now, to the food, my friend and I split the Awropuerto (spoiler it comes with a radish that has been shaped like an airplane) dish and the brussels sprouts. Both were absolutely delicious. I will warn you that they had a kick, both which were appreciated by me! The brussels sprouts had a sweet caramel sour spicy flavor. They were so absolutely delicious. Thinking about them now makes my mouth water. The aeropuerto dish was like your standard fried rice, but it had a kick to it and was a step above your expectations, with fried plaintain strips which elevated the taste layers. I really appreciated my dinner here. As an added, the restaurant itself is extremely beautiful. You can tell that they took a lot of time to make sure that the aesthetics met their vision. Hello everyone--here's my honest review of this place. The ambiance is really beautiful. Keep in mind there are only two booths, so if you're hoping to sit in one, definitely call ahead to reserve; otherwise, you'll be seated at a regular table. I truly enjoyed the culinary creativity and how individualized each dish felt. We started with the pulpo al olivo, which was hands down my favorite dish of the night--100/10, absolutely delicious. The ceviche clásico was also very good, with perfectly balanced flavors. We tried the ají de gallina, which was good and tasted authentic; my only minor complaint is that I personally prefer it a bit creamier. We also ordered the dim sum--the chili oil shrimp and pork dumplings--which were solid. The aeropuerto was divine: really good fried rice that even came with a fun airplane garnish. Now, unfortunately, the biggest disappointment of the night was the alcoholic beverages. I did end up returning a few drinks, and I was surprised when the waitress pointed out that I had returned three--it felt a bit unprofessional. As a fellow Peruvian, I love a good pisco sour, and this one was very poorly made. I sent it back, which I never do. I then ordered a lychee drink, which I'd rate a 6/10--not terrible, but I was expecting more of a martini-style cocktail. Later, I asked for Caravedo pisco with maracuyá, which I thought would be a straightforward cocktail (similar to ordering a tequila cranberry). When it arrived, it looked like a shot. I asked if that was the case, and the waitress confirmed it was. I requested ice and for it to be made into a cocktail. That's when the comment about me sending drinks back was made--again, not a great customer-service moment. When the drink came back, it had soda added. I drank it, but it wasn't what I initially asked for. That said, the chicha morada was good, and the maracuyá drink itself had good flavor. I'd recommend sticking to the non-bar specialty drinks, as it seemed like either a newer bartender or simply a weak point for them. The plates are meant to be smaller and shared, which is great for family-style dining. A big plus was that they consistently provided fresh plates with every dish--10/10 for that. I recommend ordering piece by piece so you can fully enjoy each item without feeling rushed.
