Pitcher of frozen margaritas and a little bit of the festive lights.
    Lauren L.

First of all, I am not the person to ask about authentic Mexican cuisine, so this review is not about that. But, if you're looking for a easy-going, enjoyable dining experience with good food, drinks and a friendly service staff in a festive environment, then this review is for you. Our trio of adults included two out-of-towners and one local (who recommended we dine here). We arrived for an early dinner (5:30ish) on a Saturday night and we're immediately seated. Our service was prompt and the staff was friendly and attentive. We started out with chips, salsa and guacamole along with a pitcher of frozen margaritas. Our main meal was brought to the table quickly and it was quite tasty and just what we wanted. We also had fried ice cream for dessert that was amazing but we ate it so quickly I didn't get a photo. The casual atmosphere was festive with decorations for the Holidays including lighted garland hanging from the ceiling. In the dining area where we sat there was a tv playing collegiate football. There are additional dining areas, a bar area and outdoor patio seating. Notable, there were a few tables of families with young children. So, it seems to be a great place for adults and families. Overall, we were pleased with our meals and had a good experience.

    Quesedilla and black bean soup
    Matt G.

First I was thrown off by the Caucasian wait staff (Matt G, we don't have to write down everything that runs through our mind). When I started eating I figured this is more of a Tex-Mex place rather than real Mexican. Which is not necessarily bad, but tends to lack spice, which indeed was the case with Chico's. Quesedilla, taco and Chile rilleno all need more spice. Would have been better if the chicken in the Quesedilla and taco were grilled, but I guess it's usually not. Portion size is good and it's filling food. The complimentary salsa was a bit watery and the bowl size quite shallow. The black bean soup was really flavorful, whole beans and quite a contrast to the quesedilla. Add avocado on top for a dollar. The Sopapillas was good, but thought it would be several smaller squares rather than one big square. Cinnamon, sugar, honey, ice cream and whipped cream on top of the puff pastry. A bit too much sugar for me, but easy to scrape off. All in all, a good dessert. There is a small bar area that was quite bustling and also a patio. The booths were a bit worn and the back rest wobbly and unstable. They charge 3$ if you want to share a main course. I don't know why they keep the fans on because it's January and baby it's cold outside.

Food is always great here. Usually our family gets the fish tacos, the fish is fresh, perfect batter, sweet spicy sauce, perfect balance. So yummy! If you are around uptown in Greenville on a Wednesday night they have fish/shrimp tacos special with rice and beans for $9.99. My son gets the kids taco with rice and beans, a drink, and fried ice cream for a treat for $6.69.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner here this evening. Our food was hot and delicious and our server, Reed, took great care of us. We always enjoy coming here!

Friendly staff made up for the tasteless food. It came out quickly and was inexpensive, which was good.

I don't know if you can even classify it as Mexican food. Tastes like everything came out of a can. Taco Bell is probably more authentic.

I love their food. Had a bit of everything here from their tacos, specials, enchiladas, fajitas,…read moreand more and I'm never disappointed. This is authentic Mexican food. Spanish is spoken here and when I walk out I know a little bit more Spanish than I did coming in. The servers are super friendly and love their decor inside. Menus are under the glass which is on the table so it's easy to order. Their beans are the best in town hands down and yes that rhymes. You will see me here a lot and until next time.....

On Fridays, we eat tacos…read more Somewhere during the pandemic, my friend group decided we wanted to try birria tacos. We'd heard that there was one place in town where we could get them, which came highly recommended by a friend who'd been here. The caveat was that the birria tacos are only served on Fridays. So we planned to do birria tacos on Friday. We came here and got 4 orders of birria tacos. I added an agua de Jamaica to my order. While we waited, I perused the adjacent grocery store and purchased some Mexican Coca-Colas, conchas, and a box of mango Pulparindo. Soon enough, our order was ready. We took our goodies back to my place, turned on a good movie, and partook in our feast. These tacos are full of flavor. The meat is tender, and the cheese was perfectly melted inside the consome-soaked tortillas. The meal is served with pickled onion and habanero pepper, fresh cilantro and onions, limes, and a house-made hot sauce. Of course, in true birria fashion, there is a cup of hot consome in which to dunk the tacos. The freshness of the condiments perfectly compliments the fatty richness of the tacos. Jamaica is my favorite agua fresca and always reminds me of my favorite Caribbean drink, Sorrel, as they are both made from the hibiscus flower. Though Mexican Agua de Jamaica has a different flavor profile than Sorrel, it always fills me with a sense of comfort and nostalgia. Their Jamaica is delicious and comes in a huge cup, so you always get enough. Since this first visit, we've made taco Fridays a tradition. I always order the birria tacos and agua de Jamaica. I've also tried lots of their other tacos (asada, chicharron, pastor, lengua, etc.) as an add-on to my birria order, but the birria outshines them all. These tacos are absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend adding them to your Friday takeout tradition. Be sure to peruse the pastry case for a fresh dessert to finish your meal and pick up some other treats along the way.
