This review is for a recent takeout order. We ordered tacos (ground beef), a chimichanga (chicken), an empanada (beef), and guacamole with chips. The food there is a bit pricey but we wanted to give them a shot. Upon getting the order home I discovered that the chips (from the guacamole with chips) were missing! It' wasn't worth another round-trip drive to get the missing chips, but it shows sloppy work. Otherwise the food was OK, though not a great value. They would have gotten three stars from me if I hadn't been short-changed by the missing chips. Since I can't trust this restaurant to get an order correct, I won't be going back. read more

This is more of a to-go spot, but you can dine in. The tacos were ok. Complimentary chips and salsa were ok. But the margarita was way too sweet (from some pre-made mix). On the menu it says it's $8 but I was charged $10. Also, it had a long black hair in it, gross. Service was ok. read more

Great location, clean enough space with themed decor. Inside looks great and fun, except there's never anyone in the place - which isn't a great sign. Empanada tasted and smelled like the beef was old. It was primarily filled with air and the pastry was far too brown. We also ordered a burrito bowl with chicken, which was the furthest thing from white meat. The chicken meat is small crumbs of dry, VERY dark meat with seasoning - can't even be called chunks or pieces, it's chicken crumbs. Pico tastes good but the tomatoes were nearly white and there was just a sprinkling of it on the bowl anyway. Same for the lettuce and rice - they were just filler, not tasty at all. Guac was great, however the chips were way too thick and burnt. Service was fine enough, but I ordered takeout and then sat while my food was cooked and no one really went out of their way to say anything to the one customer in the place. I felt that more attention could've been paid to service and quality food prep seeing as how they were very clearly not busy. Not the best, not the worst. Went to their original setauket location on 25-A and found out they moved to the shopping plaza down the street where stop and shop and Starbucks are. (The old ramen place). The new location is much bigger and has more of a sit-down vibe--there's a hostess and you get served with a menu etc and complimentary chips. Presentation of food is immaculate (my photo didn't do it justice). Pricing is still the same! (Not sure if that will change because I went a within a few days of their soft launch when they were still serving with disposable cups etc) And take out is still an option! Staff is SO friendly--very attentive and clearly excited about the new location. Also received complimentary churros for their soft launch--absolutely DELICIOUS. I am so so so excited for this new location and hope it does well. Will definitely be going back for the hard launch when they get their liquor license. read more

I thought this place closed when I saw they were no longer in the "cursed" location next to the drive through that has been 6 different restaurants in the last 10 years. I had never been to the original, cursed location. Then, food shopping the other day, I noticed they had not closed, but just moved about a half a mile down 25A into the Wild By Nature shopping center. Was hungry and figured, why not finally try this spot? So we go in to get a quick bite to eat- walked in and was disappointed to see it was tables service only. I just wanted to order at the counter and bring the food to the table myself. But the host greeted us immediately and I felt bad/awkward turning around and leaving so we stayed. Complimentary chips and a salsa were brought to the table, and while appreciated, the chips weren't great. Very dry, thick and brittle- had the taste and consistency more of pita chips than traditional corn tortilla chips, which are usually lighter and crispier. For food we got a chicken quesadilla, an empanada and a churro. The chicken quesadilla had a decent amount of chicken but it was very dry and there was barely any cheese. It was also $14 and didn't come with guacamole, sour cream or salsa- just a small cup of funny tasting "chipotle mayo". It was thoroughly disappointing. The empanada crust was dry and the inside tasted like frozen empanadas you'd buy in bulk from Costco. Not good at all, ended up leaving half of it uneaten. The churro was tiny and nearly $4. But the worst part about it was it wasn't a normal churro.. It had a gross, artificial tasting, caramel flavored filling inside. Had to spit it out. Wasn't all terrible though. We got a margarita that was pretty good. And our waitress was very friendly, only wish she had told me the churros had that awful caramel filling when she gave me the choice between an "oreo churro" and a "traditional churro". The service was good but the food was just not. Left her a nice tip but also left over 1/3 of what we had ordered uneaten. It's just not good food, unfortunately. read more

Walked in, nice sized store front restaurant, clean, welcoming staff and decor. We were seated with menus and chips with salsa. I ordered the Birria Bowl, and my husband ordered a Classic Taco and Fajita Combination. The food was excellent, just like in the other location, but we felt the portions were much bigger. Great spot! We have done takeaway from here a few times and the food is always delicious. They have a really fun menu. I always get a chicken burrito with TONS of stuff in it (different each time!) and we will never order here without bringing some queso and chips home too. The queso is amazing. Nice neighborhood spot for Tex-Mex food. I've lived in East Setauket for 25+ years and this location has seen its fair share of chinese food and pizza eateries throughout the years. What is Tex-Mex? I had to look up what Tex-Mex means: Tex-Mex cuisine is an American and Texan cuisine that derives from the culinary creations of the Tejano people of Texas. Dig it! I knew that you could. We found a great taco spot in Miller Place, its kind of a hike when you're jonesin' for a taco and Chico's is around the corner. My wife & I first stopped in for a few tacos. Very impressed with what was offered. The next few visits, I used my app to order online. I ordered a fish bowl and then the following week a ground beef bowl. Maybe it's all dumped into a large tin, the presentation doesn't look too appealing. And both bowls were a little too heavy on the onions, something I'll correct in my next order. Chico's makes a damn good Tex-Mex taco. If your in the area, give them a try. read more

The quality of the food and experience has gone from a 10 to a 1 since they moved to a new location in Setauket. Ordered Fajitas and Nacho 6 weeks ago - absolutely terrible. I actually responded to a Chico's email asking how my experience was - I elaborated on my dissatisfaction with no response. Decided to give Chico's a s2nd chance. If I could sum up my review in one sentence: this place is like a high class Taco Bell in the best way possible. Came here craving a quick lunch during office hours. Ordered a chicken quesadilla to go. The quesadilla came packed with some fresh chips and a few sauces on the side. The quesadilla itself was huge! One slice easily the size of my hand. The filling isn't like a typical quesadilla to me though... If you've ever had Taco Bell's quesadilla, it comes with small chunks of meat slathered in a queso sauce. And that is very similar to what I go at Chico's. However, it was so much better than what Taco Bell could ever provide. The chicken was tender and flavorful, covered in a tasty cheese sauce. Tortilla was sturdy and a bit crisp. The sauces served along side were a wonderful compliment. There was so much quesadilla to dine on, I managed to save a slice for later and still enjoyed it! My favorite Tex Mex place! They pack the containers really well and the price is very reasonable. I always get the chicken rice bowl without beans and it is good every time. It normally takes me 2 sittings to finish this food as they give so much of it. It also opened right up next to my workplace at the library so it is in an extremely convenient location for me to pick up quickly when I am in the area. I have always ordered online and have had no issues picking it up, it is always accurate and made efficiently. Glad i decided to stop by this place. The prices are extremely good and the portion sizes are massive. I'm glad they have actual vegetarian options! The service was phenomenal, I asked for a few things without cheese and they were able to modify the items without problem. We got a pretty large order and I believe we waited no more than 10 minutes, which was great. The food was very good! This is basically like Taco Bell except the food tastes a thousand times more fresh. I have to say I was pretty impressed with everything. I got the soy tacos, which were amazing and so fresh! The sauces where perfectly balanced and the seasoning of the soy was prefect. I loved the portions for 12 dollars (I got 3 very full tacos). My boyfriend got the shrimp tacos (not pictured) and he said he would come back again for them. These tacos where very authentic and fresh and not like any of other place in the area. The place looks awesome, love the skull mural is spectacular! Absolutely love the crispy chips and chunky salsa that's a staple of the Chicos experience. My son and I crushed the bowl just in time for our food to arrive. I had the chipotle chicken burrito and it was fabulous! even better than before! I was told they are cooking in smaller batches , providing the most delicious and fresh foods at all times. It shows. Me and my husband came here for lunch; the place was clean, open, and the (I assume owner?) that I spoke to was very friendly. We mostly came since they had a vegan meat option, including an empanada! It was delicious, and we will absolutely be coming back. Decent option if you're craving Tex-mex in the Stony Brook/East Setauket area. We tried their shrimp street taco, grilled fish fiesta taco, chicken crunch taco, and pulled pork street taco, as well as their ground beef chalupa and steak quesadilla, all of which were tasty enough if not particularly outstanding. The quesadilla was perhaps the best entree, oozing cheese and loaded with steak, and so hefty I felt full after two pieces. Their sauce selection was a mild disappointment--the green sauce, red sauce, and crema all tasted strangely watered down and bland.
