How have I never reviewed Salsa Salsa before? My bad. Some places come and go but Salsa Salsa has been here for I don't know how many years and deservedly so! The food is great, I've never had a bad meal here, and even tho incredibly busy the staff is always friendly. My go-to's are usually the pork tacos, yum, or the not so fatso shrimp burrito. The burritos could feed a family of 4! lol ok maybe a slight exaggeration but I usually have to share one or save half for another meal. You can almost always find a spot at the counter (and maybe make a new friend as you're munching on deliciousness as gracefully as one can), but to-go is usually the way I go. Salsa Salsa has been a fixture in the Port for many years, but I've only had food from here twice. First time was pre Covid. WOW, we have an Era called "Pre-Covid ". I've never been big on Mexican food, but I was deciding what I might want for lunch and for some reason Salsa Salsa came to mind. So I check their menu on line and go for the Burrito, and I add, of course, grilled shrimp. Let me back up for a minute. Covid protocols are in place, only take out, no sit down dining. Masks are mandatory and hand sanitizer is readily available. Ok, back to my lunch. For starters, it huge. I take it back to my office and unwrap this monster sized Burrito. Oh, I forgot this part. Cost, $12. I'm ready to dig in but it's way to big for me to eat the whole thing. I mentioned I ordered grilled shrimp with it, and the shrimp were very large and grilled perfectly. After eating half of this burrito I wrapped up the remaining half and put it in the fridge for another days lunch. Remember, $12 bucks , so do the math. Let's see, $12 divided by 2 lunches. That's right, $6 per lunch. You can't even eat at McDonald's for Godt much. Remember I did say I'm not big on Mexican food but I'm sure I'll frequent Salsa Salsa more often. read more

This is not real Mexican, so set your expectations low if you know what it's supposed to taste like. Most importantly, there is no flavor and nothing resembling spicy in any of the food I tasted. I assume that the chef doesn't know what real Mexican is or that people around here don't like it. The salsa tasted like cilantro, but had no heat to it. Odd for salsa that looked like it had a ton of chili pepper in it. The ground beef burrito was seasoned well but the included "jalapeños" had zero spiciness to them. They literally tasted like bell peppers. The quesadilla had very little cheese, even though that's what queso means. I asked for it to include grilled onions and peppers on top of the scallions and jalapeños that came with it (side note: it's strange to include scallions and jalapeños in a quesadilla). The quesadilla was soggy on the bottom, possibly because of the extra veggies I added, so that could have been my fault. The yucca fries were also improperly prepared. Instead of being soft on the outside and crispy on the outside, they were hard all the way through. I won't be back unless someone who knows how to make Mexican food is at the helm. Came here for lunch yesterday and ordered a Pork, Chicken, and a Steak Taco. This place really hit the spot! The ingredients were very fresh and their hot sauce was amazing. The staff were super friendly and even though it was only open for takeout it is good to see that they are following safety guidelines and are respecting the rules for social distancing. I know it is "basic" but their quesadillas are excellent, super tasty, cooked just right, and a nice touch with the jalapeños inside. And to go a little more elaborate, try their chilis and soups (chili verde soup, enchilada soup, etc.). This was my first time here, and it definitely lived up to the hype I'd heard from friends. Food: I ordered their guac, salsa and chips and their veggie tacos and they were awesome! I'm such a guac snob and there's is absolutely amazing. But, those veggie tacos. They were filled with delicious zucchini, yellow squash, peppers, cabbage and pico, and were such a delicious, light meal after a long hike. The have bottles of salsa out on the seating counters, and it is perfect. Put that on literally everything you order here. Staff: The staff was all so sweet, and they worked like a well oiled machine. The food literally came out in minutes, and was perfect. Atmosphere: This is a super cute, hole-in-the-wall joint, but because of that it won't always be easy to get a seat. I was lucky enough to find seating since I had gone at a weird time, but I can easily see this place getting PACKED during the summer months. The staff is wonderful, whenever I call for an order or eat inside they're very kind and considerate. The inside of Salsa Salsa is really small with only a few seating options inside. Most people take out their order. I made the mistake of ordering ahead and carrying out their grilled fish tacos, which became incredibly soggy after just my 10 minute walk home. This has never been a problem whenever I eat inside because the tacos are always really delicious when eaten right away. The chicken tacos are also delicious too! You can't go wrong on any of the tacos if you can eat them right away at least. I would 100% suggest the yuca fries. They're so delicious. They're not oily like most fries and one portion is huge! I've been ordering tacos and quesadillas here for a few years now. Went again a couple days ago, and this time I ordered the pork tacos. It came topped with chopped greens, (almost like a homemade slaw), fresh salsa, cheeses & sour cream. In my order I asked for the sour cream on the side. Everything came out perfect. They have this salsa-like dressing that's in glass bottle on every table. I absolutely must insist you try it! I don't know how they make it m, but it's worth it's weight in gold! (included a photo of the bottle as a reference). I wish they offered hard shell tacos but It won't stop me from checking out this place every now and then. Surprisingly I had never been to this restaurant before even though I frequent down port at least once a week. I stopped by here with a group of new friends in my dental school class and there were just enough seats to fit us! There's a very small seating area so I suggest not coming with too large of a group. I ordered a chicken taco and it was very fresh! Next time I'll definitely try out a burrito! Really enjoy every time I order food from salsa salsa. I always get the Black Bean Soup because it's so warm and yummy. I also always get Baja fish tacos because they're actually my favorite thing on the menu. Then I try to switch it up and get some different things. I like to get some chips and guacamole or queso. You can order guac, salsa, meat and other items on top of the nachos otherwise they come topped with cheese. Sour cream and tomatoes come on the side. I decided on the fish tacos for my main meal. There are 2 types of fish tacos on the menu. I ordered the a la carte fish taco which came with seasoned fish, lettuce, cheese, tomato and cabbage. The fish was tasty but kind of bland. I used some of the extra sour cream from the nachos and plopped it onto my taco along with the salsa. The fish taco featured on the menu is the fish taco entree that comes with 3 tacos. This one boasts avocado and looks a little bit more intriguing than what I ordered! Looking back I probably would have skipped going halvsies on the nachos with my friend and ordered the 3 fish tacos instead. I'd definitely recommend this place as there are countless options to try. All the food is cooked right in front of you and is extremely fresh. Next time I'd like to try their fresh guac and steak burrito. read more

My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night and the place wasn't as packed as I thought it would be. I noticed a lot of people were stopping in for take out. Their menu had a fantastic selection and the staff was very nice when we wanted to order. The price was typical, not too cheap but not crazy expensive either. The atmosphere is really cool, very chill vibe. Festival colors on the walls and seats. Coolest part is that you can sit at a bar that faces the outside. People watching and tacos are two of my favorite things! The salsa was absolutely bomb! It was so good! (Good call on the restaurant name I guess) I ordered tacos and I usually like to get hard shell but I found out they don't serve hard shell....why!? One of our favorite spots for Tex-mex. Not authentic but definitely amazing Tex-mex. Lots on their menu, the salads and wraps are sooo good. Everything is fresh and it's also great for takeout, reasonable prices. My favorite thing to get is easily the pulled pork burrito. OMG. So much flavor and I'm not even a pork person. On a gorgeous spring day in Port Jefferson my friend and I decided on this tiny tex-mex joint. I ordered one shrimp taco, one chicken taco and we split an order of nachos. The nachos were covered in hardened cheese. They were hard to pick off. They came with a side of chopped tomato and sour cream. Thinking back maybe we were supposed to dump all that goodness on top of our nachos ... anyway. The shrimp taco was seasoned very well but the tomato and onion could have had more flavor. I ended up adding salsa to both tacos to give them the kick they were missing. The chicken was okay. It cost me $6.75 for two tacos. Awesome price for fresh food. Seating is very tight. We sat right by the kitchen. All the hustle and bustle and tight space made me feel like I was sitting in Manhattan. Then Id look out the door and see clear blue skies, mom and pop shops and a ton of families and was brought back to Long Island. Give this place a shot.
